Yesterday, it was really cloudy so we spent a couple of hours on the beach, then it started spitting so we went back to our bungalow. The sky went black so we thought there would be a storm so I sat in my hammock waiting. There was a bit of rain, not a lot though so I was quite disappointed. Then it started pouring down, the roar of the rain was so loud me and Matt had to shout to each other to be able to hear. Then the thunder and lightning started, only a bit at first then it seemed to move away. Then it came back for round 2 and we watched the most intense thunder and lightning storm I've ever seen! It was mad! Loads and loads of sheet lightning that was really ... read more

After tubing, we got on a coach to Vientiane, which is the capital of Laos and stayed there for a couple of nights. It was ok, there wasn't very much to do and it was obscenely hot, so we decided to get to the beach as quick as we could. And so started our monster journey to Ko Chang. We got up early and crossed the border back into Thailand to Nong Khai. We booked our train tickets, then had a few hours to wait around so we went to a mad sculpture park which was lots of fun. I got some amazing pictures, basically this man decided that the whole point of his life was to build statues, he didn't know how to make them or what to make them so he had a look ... read more

So after a brilliant time at coastal Cambodia, we were unsure where to spend our last week travelling...... Do we stay where we are or risk going somewhere and finishing the trip on low :-( So we opted for Koh Chang many other people we had spoken to had mentioned how nice it was so we thought we would try.. And what a good decision, the last week of our trip ended up being our favourite place!!! There was sooooo much to do for all ages, we stayed at a nice family run set of bungalows called BaBaBooBoo, ful of Germans but they were friendly enough. We ate fantastic food at the Hungry Elephant, we saw fantastic fire shows on the beach at the Apache bar and smoked the shish pipe on the beach in the ... read more

Well, I can proudly say that I made it out of my cozy little comfort zone of Perth and have ventured out to join Jayson on a trip of a lifetime to experience, absorb and explore this wonderful world we live in. After a bit of a nervous start to the day on Thursday, who would have thought the freeway would be at a standstill at 7.30 in the morning?? Anyway with much skill and knowledge of back roads Dad finally delivered me to the airport a little late but on time. The emotional goodbyes done it was through the door to customs and then waiting around for the 1 hour delay of the flight, this was to be the story of the day, the flight was delayed in Phuket as well. So after a full ... read more

A Week on Ko Chang After spending a week in Bangkok, it was time to leave the muggy city and head for calmer and more idyllic scenery. We had been planning to visit the island culture of Thailand, but with so many islands, it can be difficult to decide where to go. Ultimately we decided on Ko Chang, an island in the SE, but relatively undeveloped compared to its other large island counterparts. Ko Chang is the second largest island in Thailand and a lush National Park covers much of the terrain. There is a large tourist scene there, but no corporate presence (no fast food chains, no hotel chains). Plus, a friend of a friend owns a guesthouse resort on Ko Chang and there was the opportunity for Jason to play a DJ gig there. ... read more

We have been here a few days now and absolutely love it, Koh Chang is the 2nd biggest in Thailand and is now quite developed, but not as big on the party scene as Phuket so a bit quieter. It is mad getting around as the roads are practically vertical in places where they have to get over the hills and he descents are just as bad, it really feels as though you are on a rollercoaster. The beach we are staying at is great, we are in a place called Sunflower huts, run by a German guy called Thomas, he is a top bloke really chilled. It has been brutally hot here, but the last couple of days have been overcast, so we have walked to a waterfall which was really nice, the countryside here ... read more

James, Christine & I wanted to go to Koh Chang after leaving Cambodia. It looked as if we were going to have to go pretty far out of our way to Bangkok, then catch a bus to Koh Chang, but luckily we found a minivan service that went direct, saving us 7 hours of travel, a night in Bangkok and some money. The only problem is we had to get there before the last ferry left from Trat (on the mainland) for the island of Koh Chang. We didn't realize this despite our near perfect grasp of both the Thai and Khmer languages. The guy was was driving super fast through these back country roads trying to get us there. Towards the end when he really let loose, he put on some type of Thai heavy ... read more

I slept the whole way from Siem Reap to Ko Chang. I was exhausted - I was lucky dad was in charge of making the travel plans. We had basically heard nothing but horror stories about backpackers trying to cross the border with the bus - people getting ripped off, busses abandoning travelers, buses leaving hours later than scheduled, and all kinds of other things. Keeping all that in mind, dad decided we should just taxi it the whole way. One taxi picked us up at the hostel, we crossed the border by foot, and picked up another taxi on the Thai side which took us past Trat and to the ferry dock. The ferry from the mainland to the island of Ko Chang took about half an hour and then it was another 20 minutes ... read more
