If you are into architecture, particularly Asian, Thai in particular, or framework like doors and windows, you might find these as interesting as I do. Everyone else, aren't they gorgeous anyway???? ... read more

The National Museum is a great place to wander around and see some fascinating things. I won't bore you with details, just say it was great, especially the huge number of buddhist items and the funeral carriages and wedding carriages. I watched a relatively good little movie on Thai history. No big stories of anything, I'm way too hung over right now. I'm just going to chuck a few photos on here. Enjoy.... read more

Hi, just quickly, here are those photos I promised of the lovely Shambara Boutique Hostel. if you want to know anything else about it, feel free to put on a comment or send a personal message to that effect and ill get back to you. i definately recommend it. it is on Old Tanao Road, I think its called, parallel to Tanao Road, which is at one end of the famous and fun Khao San Road. so it is less than a minute out to a great time. and less than 15 minutes walk to the Grand Palace and other great sites around there. ive met some great people here. most are great in fact. ive been lucky to meet both fabulous locals and fabulous fellow travellers in all 3 countries ive been to. i won't ... read more

I have the most gorgeous hostel, with the most gorgeous room. It is pretty simple, but lovely. With nice touches that no other hostel I've been to yet has had. I'll get photos of the hostel itself as well to show you, but in the meantime, these are the features of my room. The hostel staff are friendly and try to be as helpful as they can. I got a "welcome drink" when I arrived. You get a simple but nice breakfast. They have a lovely courtyard and there are two separate TV areas, with those great triangle cushions, if you know what I mean. Plus there are just lovely decorations around the place. I even love the basin where I brush my teeth. There is a message wall and a "recommendations book" where you can ... read more

Departing Dehli put a smile on my face. Good karma abounded in the final days and hours. Dehli seemed familiar upon my return and much easier than I had remembered. I ventured around and about visiting the famed B'hai Temple in the shape of a lotus flower, went to a market, had a last supper with my remaining travel mates. I also committed a traveler's offense in India--I ate at McDonald's. :) The veggie burger was a nice diversion from Indian food. The ironic thing is that I love India food...in fact it is one of my favorite types of food. However, at this juncture, I think some respite from Indian food is desired. I spent my last hours at the airport with Sara and Katie. They were traveling to Sri Lanka where I hope their ... read more

Bleh. Incredibly sore after a hard night in Bangkok... not the best place to be hungover. However, it is a public holiday today which means there is only 25% of the madness. Leaving for Ko Tao in 2 hours for one last island pilgrimage before England. Going to soak up as much sun and sand as possible and go snorkelling and relax and ahhhhhh.... :)... read more

Yay, I'm back in Bangers. Sorry mum, I meant Krung Thep - the city of angels. Only I must have been doing something wrong (like staying near Khao San Road again) because almost everyone I've met so far has been dodgy as hell, if somewhat entertaining. In the last 24 hours I have been mistaken as a Japanese tourist by an Isaan taxi driver, sampled every permutation of fruit shake possible with a German landscape architect, lectured loudly in public by an enthusiastic Israeli art photographer, stretched by a Thai masseuse who confided that she had just narrowly avoided being sold to a dodgy Korean outfit, and attacked by three, (count 'em) three, mangy Banglamphu mongrel dogs. grrr... Amidst the pollution and the congestion, there are some wonderful simple pleasures to be had here. For me, ... read more

Okay, so we meet this guy and he is telling us about this awesome vegetarian rooftop restaurant. Now we all know that Conrad and I are not vegans, but this place sounded cool. Cheap good food, and high above on a rooftop with a great view. Wow, sounds like fun. So…..off we set. Conrad was excited about this place. We sauntered through the streets in the dark searching high and low, and were surprised to actually find the place. There was a decrepit old door, which we tentatively opened and entered the place. This building was fairly dilapidated looking but what the heck, its all about the adventure. We were surrounded by darkness, then just as suddenly, black lights and some kind of crazy pshyco painting and portraits of Jimmy Morrison and Bob Marley and flowers ... read more

Bangkok has been notably described as the “Arsehole of Asia” and “Cesspool” by others on Travelblog. After 48 hours I think these titles are a little unfair, but the Thai name - Krung Thep - translating to “City of Angels” - is a touch on the flattering side -maybe somewhere in the city, between the skyscrapers and the slow moving stinky rivers there maybe a real angel, but one thing is sure - there are plenty of girls who'll be your angel for one night for only 300 baht! and there are plenty of guys searching for angels. The sex tourism aspect of Thailand has been present ever since Heathrow Airport waiting lounge, chatting to a “business man” while waiting for a flight - “I love Thailand... a bottomless barrel of women who all think I ... read more
