Our journey begins in 2 different states, Nebraska via Texas and Colorado. This year Chester and Kirsten are trying to throw off the doubters and are bringing along a 3rd traveler. Because 2 single, overweight, over 40 women traveling together are gay. 3 single, overweight, muffin topped, over 40 women equals, 3 spinsters looking for a good time. The odyssey will take us through 3 countries in less than 3 weeks. Vietnam, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. Our goal is to compare the various massage techniques in all of them on a daily basis if possible. And maybe see a few sights along the way. Today's journey getting to Vietnam is so far uneventful aside from the guy on the plane eating Kim-chi flavored pork rinds. But the journey is not over so time will tell as ... read more

Days 24 & 25 After travelling these last 3 weeks I can feel the fatigue taking over me so I decided to just take it easy for the last days of my trip in South Korea. My last two days in Gwangju I spent by walking around the downtown area. There I did some shopping and went to couple cafés as well. Day 26 Today I travelled from Gwangju to Seoul. In Seoul my accommodation will be Koreastay. Koreastay is a Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) brand that certifies city accommodations. Selected homestays give international visitors an opportunity to experience Korean culture and lifestyle by living with a Korean family. I was so excited when I found this kind of an option for accommodation. It doesn't cost a lot and you get to see how Koreans live ... read more

Day 22 Yesterday I travelled to Gwangju, it's the sixth largest city in South Korea and there lives about 1.5 million people. From Daegu it took about 3 hours by bus and I arrived to U-Square Bus Terminal, which is Gwangju's main terminus. From there I took a bus to Pedro's House hostel. In the hostel I was greeted by the owner Pedro. I was given a welcome drink and got to also browse 3 folders, which were full of information about things to do, see and eat in Gwangju. I was really lucky that I had booked my hostel quite early, because the 2015 Summer Universiade is held in Gwangju while I'm staying here. After getting my stuff to the room I went to eat dinner to a restaurant called Mudeungjeong. The restaurant is a ... read more

When I moved to Hwaseong, three years ago, I didn't think that there were any sights to see in the area. However I do a piece of work with my students, where they have to describe a famous attraction in the local area. Thanks to my students mentioning Yungneung and Geolleung, the royal tombs. I did a bit of research and found out that they were pretty close along with Yongjusa Temple to where I live. I was going to visit yesterday, but the weather was crappy. Luckily I got a gorgeous day today. I took the bus, you can get either the 34 or 34-1. The journey took about 40 minutes and definitely went through serial killer territory. Hwaseong's claim to fame is a serial killer roamed the area between 1986 and 1991, murdering 10 ... read more

Day 20 Yesterday I went to the Haeinsa Temple. It's about 68 kilometers from Daegu and it took about 1 hour by bus. Haeinsa is a Buddhist temple built in 802 by two monks Suneung and Ijung. Along with the Tripitaka Koreana and Janggyeongpanjeon, 15 more public treasures and some 200 private treasures are enshrined at Haeinsa Temple. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995 and Haeinsa is one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea. After visiting the temple area I decided to take the Haeinsa Sorigil trail. I could have waited the bus but I thought that it would be nice to see the trail. I have to say that it wasn't the best idea because it wasn't as short as I thought it would be. Luckily I had sneakers, ... read more

It is very easy to travel in Busan and all that you need is a Busan Metro Line Map and a transportation card, either T- money or Cashbee card. To get to the beach , take Line 2 and alight at Gwangan station, exit 5. Go in the evening and take a nice evening walk along the beach. The beach is clean with good sea view. There are many pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops around. At around 7pm, the surrounding buildings and the Gwangan bridge in the middle of the sea will be lighted up. The view of the lighted up bridge is spectacular. There are also many youngsters gathered at the talent corner, enjoying the performances of budding future stars singing away, an open air K-pop concert.... read more

During the Korean War, some 4000 followers of the Taegeukdo religion, refugees from other parts of the wartorn land, settled in this region of Busan, erecting as their homes some 800 wooden shacks. These cubicle houses are packed closely so that they seem to be comforting each other and living a happy life in harmony. It is very comforting to see rows upon rows of delightful mismatched houses in hues of light blue, pink, green, yellow. Among these houses, you can spot some taller, more modern looking buildings which are the hospitals, churches and schools. The government has transformed some 300 empty houses into galleries, book cafes and other cultural facilities while local colleges and village residents have worked together to produce art works placed at various alley way corners. It is an interesting place to ... read more

Day 18 Yesterday I flew from Jeju back to Busan and from there I continued my trip by bus to Daegu. After arriving to Daegu I went straight to my hotel. In Daegu I decided to stay in a hotel because it cost almost the same as it would have if I went to a hostel and took a single room. The hotel where I'm staying is Apsan Business Hotel and it's located near Hyeonchungno subway station. The room is quite nice and it's spacious, only bad thing was that it smelled a bit of cigarettes and because of that I'm keeping a window open. Next I went to find a restaurant. I went to a restaurant called Haeng Eun Samgyeopsal and of course I took samgyeopsal. It was again delicious! It was raining the whole ... read more
