WCG stands for World Cyber Games. I won with my firends a national qualifier to assist to Seoul to the "Cyber Olympics". It was really nice, the sponsors payed everything for us. I put this entry because it was my first trip abroad since '97. I was really exited, I mean you play a computer game and then you are in Korea for free. The venue of the event was the same that 1988 Olympic games (real games). It was impressive, all the setup for the tournament was inside different stadiums and such. We couldnt visit a lot seoul because most of the time we were in the event. We went to the Korean Dysney called Lotte Wolrd. It was inside the city, it wasn't that big but was ok. The coolest thing of Lotte ... read more

Hey guys. The title of my latest adventure may sound a bit ominous, but it is not as far from the truth as you might think. Surely, the profession of armed guard must number among the most popular in South Korea. Combined with 2-year obligatory military service for all men, I got the impression that there is neither back alley nor grand boulevard without a cop watching your back, or perhaps eyeing you suspiciously because of an ill-timed word or gesture. In fact, there is reason for such paranoiac behavior, although somewhat diminished with the passing of time: namely the presence of communist spies. In a page taken right out of the Cold War, there’s a bounty of $10,000 to $50,000 for the discovery of a commie from the North trying to wean state secrets from ... read more

I mentioned in the covering note of my blogs that following the posting of my 1974 travel blogs, it was my intention to document some highlights of the many business trips I took to visit our overseas customers during the period from 1999 to 2007 when I was representing Queensland Sugar (QSL). This blog will start that process. Rather than focus on individual trips, it is my plan to summarise the various visits, and highlights, from each country. I should point out that I am undertaking this exercise primarily for my own satisfaction and records, so if any readers get some enjoyment, or amusement, from these blogs, that will be a bonus. Given these travels occurred over an eight-year period, I shall date them all in 2000 so they will fit in the correct chronological sequence ... read more

The flight from Hong Kong's Kai Tak airport to Gimpo international in Seoul turned out to be a breeze, and all the terrifying things I heard about China Airways prior to the flight amounted to nothing in the end. On arrival I made my way to a hostel in downtown Seoul and checked in to commence a memorable week in the capital of South Korea. The city is blessed with great culture, superb food, high quality tailors at very affordable prices, exciting nightlife and incredibly beautiful women. What a combination, and to top it off I met a fantastic group of people at the hostel that made this visit even more enjoyable, in one of my favourite travel destinations. The Koreans are hard working and ambitious, and I quickly noticed they have a very competitive attitude ... read more
