Today mummy, daddy and I had showers and breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast was very nice. I had a fried egg and some coco-pops. I also had a waffle with maple syrup which was very yummy and I enjoyed it alot. Our flight was 2 hours late leaving because of the 40 planes delayed yesterday by the typhoon. I watched the Lorax on the plane. The Korean Air hostess gave me a little fun pack that I could play with on the plane. The food was OK on the plane, but was not great - it was "plane food". I got a strawberry milk and some other snacks as well as my meal. We flew via Milan. In Rome we were picked up by Davide, the son of the lady we were renting the apartment from. ... read more

..... and I howled at my ma in the drivin' plane (Sung to the tune of Jumpin' Jack Flash). Firstly, my apologies for the Stones reference straight up, but those who know me well will forgive this slight indulgence. Secondly, apologies to Mick and Keith for butchering those immortal opening lines. In my defence, the hurricane reference is completely valid. We left for Incheon, Korea heading towards the destructive force of Typhoon Bolaven. The day before we left it had already made a mess of some islands in Japan, and was headed north for the Korean peninsula the same day we were due to arrive. Unfortunately this translated into a four hour delay leaving Brisbane. Anyway, the day started at 4:30, and thankfully Kay stayed over to drive us to the airport. So there we were ... read more

Today mummy, daddy and I got delayed four hours leaving Brisbane because of a typhoon in Korea. The plane trip was very exciting because it was my first time landing in a typhoon. There was a group of Asian schoolgirls on the plane also. They were a bit scared by the typhoon as we landed, and were screaming (but in a good way). We had a rough landing because of the typhoon and we had to wait on the tarmac in Incheon for 45 minutes before we could pull into a terminal. We were very tired that night and I went straight to bed after we arrived at the Hotel.... read more

안녕 (AKA "An nyoung") from Korea!! Fernanda and I left Los Angeles at 11:30pm on Saturday, May 12 and landed in Incheon, the airport just outside of Seoul, at 4AM on Monday, May 14. Gotta love the international date line! There isn't much to tell right now. We went for a final dinner at the North Beach Caffe in Manhattan Beach and it was delicious. Other than that, we're both feeling sweaty and gross and we can't wait to get to our hotel in Beijing and take a nice shower. Enjoy some early photos! -Dafne... read more

Bultanem Saram (pt. 2 of 2) Here's an update well after the event. This goes back to a Sunday in September, the second weekend after I got to Seocheon. I figured out those weird insect like things I ate with the Chinese women were immature silkworm (pupa or larve). Glad to have figured that out. Anyway, I met a ton of people at the beach on Sunday, and a couple folks I may meet in the future outside of Korea, should paths cross in a desert somewhere. Big props to Katlyn, Scottathan, and Crazy Matteh. You guys rock, and help make this strange land full of strange people (expats certainly not excepted) more cozy. Here's a few pics from the beach.... read more

Sunday has arrived and the packing is done. Just about got the weight down to our allowance. Looking forward to lunch at The Aubergine with Jo and George then it's a final check of luggage before we head off to Eden Park for the final... Sitting in the departure lounge in South Korea trying to catch up again! The pre-final lunch with Jo & George was great fun. Then it was back to Jo's before George and I headed off to the Horse and Trap in Mt. Eden to meet up with Marshall again. Made it to the ground in time to see all the preliminaries (video follows later) The score line of 8 - 7 would suggest a boring match but it was anything but. The French could've just squeaked it in the end but ... read more

So the idea for Saturday was to go to Muiido island for the first ever South Korea burning man kinda thing. Burning Man is happening in now, and this is supposed to be a little taste of it for all those inclined in South Korea. Long story short, I missed it on Saturday. Why? Because it's on an island and I arrived too late to the ferry. I could kick myself for a litany of reasons why I needn't have missed the boat over and shoud've been partying through the night on the island. Instead, here's a tale of what actually happened instead. I missed a train, completely and utterly my fault. This was my first time taking a train into Seoul from Seocheon (where I live, for all you who don't know/didn't guess). My train ... read more

Dear Blog Readers, I feel that is obligatory to end our adventure in Korea with a summary of some of the things we’ve loved and hated whilst voyaging on this journey of discovery into the land of the morning calm. So let’s kick things off on a positive note in no particular order: Top of the K-Pops 1. Boeun – some say it’s the armpit of Korea but others say it’s the Las Vegas of Korea. I agree wholeheartedly with the latter. If there was a town at the end of a rainbow, Boeun would be it. I was genuinely shocked that it wasn’t listed as a potential candidate for the new Seven Wonders of the World. I mean, haven’t they seen the emaculate condition of the bus terminal? The on-going construction all year round? The ... read more
