back in singapore again for 2 days before leaving for australia. this is where i started my round the world adventure 6 weeks ago and it's fun to be back. had a lovely meal at a converted church and then the traditional singapore sling cocktail in Raffles Hotel. It is expensive ($20 which is about 8 pound) but felt it had to be done, aswell as eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor (as well as down Mel's top and on Charlotte & Laura - they got me back later tho!) we did trek down to the Quay and went to a club but it was so awful that everyone left so it wasn't a big night for our last night on tour. Today we said goodbye to most of the group and did ... read more

After much faffing about the UK and flying, I'm finally up to something! Made friends with a Dutch girl and an Italian guy, hereonin referred to as Petra and Ronni. I especially like Petra because she's already been all over SE Asia and answers all my questions. I especially like Ronni because he's been to both Belfast and Edinburgh and really liked them both. Anyway...we bussed into the city centre and explored Little India, Kampung Glam and Chinatown via many, many temples and lots of incense. Also saw the theatres that look like beetles, "Esplanade, The Theatres on the Bay". Tom will be glad to hear that I also walked past the PWC building and a cricket match at the Singapore Cricket Club - took photos just for you TC! Despite Claire's advice, I didn't sample ... read more

5 more sleeps before i depart to Mongolia! Right now I am pondering my packing and whether all the things I want to pack can actually fit into my little 60lt backpack. Probably not but hey gotta try to squeeze it in. Right now I am rushing all the last minute work that work has unloaded onto me. The weekend I will be busy gathering my last minute provisions of can foods, packet drinks and any toiletries I have missed out. I have already packed and re-packed my toiletries bag countless times but it still seems like a lot. 1 month seems like a long time and having to estimate how much shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, moisturiser, cleanser etc etc I need seems like a daunting task ahead. I have already made numerous trips to the local ... read more

Every good story has to end one day, sadly Hinkleys travel blog has only this entry left. After waving the kids off, and sending them both back to London (Lee for another week and Nicole promises she will be home for Christmas) Pete and I headed home. One more stop over was required. The opportunity to catch up with Sharon and Peter in Singapore was something that we had wanted to do ever since they were expatriated with BASF nearly 3 years ago. We had a great night, the weather was perfect for what has now become our traditional "crab dish". These guys have not changed one little bit. The only change is that Peter has succumbed to the aging process and he too needs to wear glasses. We swapped glasses ideas and both agreed there ... read more

So here I am killing time at the Singapore airport. Not hard to do really. 24 hour food, World Cup coverage everywhere, free Internet, the list goes on. This place rocks! So yeah, my flight leaves in about 7 hours for Australia. They kindly let me check in 9 hours before as they were closing their check-in desk. So now I'm wandering the airport to find the next coolest thing every 100 feet... ;o) Although the net is free I have a time limit, so I just wanted to say I made it here, and just taking advantage of free net time. Take care and more news on Australia soon. I'm gonna go find a corner to take in some Z's or watch the game... ... read more

heya all, thanks for all the messages, nice to know people are reading these blogs. Back off to Malaysia tonight, staying in Johor Bahru, just over the causeway, and then flying out tomorrow morning, to KL, then to Kota Bharu and the Perhentian Islands...wooooooo beach life is about to begin. Well since the last blog we've been to the night safari, which was really good, saw so many cool animals, elephants, rhino, leopard, giraffe, wolves and many more. Couldn't get any pictures as obviously it was dark and we couldn't use flash. We went with another 6 guys from the hostel, 3 brit girls, dani, amy and gemma, a dutch couple and an austrian guy. Got back, had a few beers, as usual, and called it a night. Yesterday we went for a big walkabout, went from the hostel down to ... read more

The start of my solo trip! I arrived in Singapore three days ago, the first time I'd been in a country where I did not know the name of a single other person in it. Scary stuff. The hostel was in a great location, but I was surprised to find my 10-bed dorm contained 10 bunk beds, all of which were full. Despite this, it seems the manager had an aversion to light, or at least other people having it, as the only switch to our dorm was in his office and constantly fixed to the OFF setting. Singapore is a city-country, located on an island as close to the equator as I've ever been not on aeroplane, and so it is very hot and humid here. It's also really clean and westernised, and serves as ... read more
