It's my final day at the Miramar so having settled my room bill and then checked out, I dumped my case with the bell boys and took a stroll to the Internet Cafe to check my emails and converse with the world...before realising my plan was flawed as it was only 3am in the UK, and not surprisingly no one was online!! I then proceeded for my final lunch date at the Highlander where I enjoyed a huge serving of Fish and Chips and two cold refreshing beers before making my way back along the riverside to the hotel...and the Brass Rail Bar!! The Airport transfer once again ran smoothly and upon clearing immigration made my way to the departure gate where upon I got the shock of my life...James and Liz not only were at ... read more

Having surfaced early for breakfast, the rest of the morning was filled with an hour long session in the gym and catching up with some outstanding correspondence. I then took my protesting body and feet to the shopper's paradise of Orchard Road where I discovered just how expensive Singapore really is, nice items at 'Nice' prices...and it was actually very easy to keep my wallet firmly lodged in my pocket. Having avoided expensive retail therapy, I felt the need for a little relaxation and so booked myself into 'The Clinic'................Bar, the concept is just sooooo wrong...wheelchairs are positioned at tables and beds are set up in case you want to lie down after one too many 'Morphine X's'...I wanted to fall down after seeing the price ($50)but once I looked at the ingredients I realised that ... read more

OMG...Is that really my alarm going off already? I stayed up until 3am and watched the Liverpool game last night (idiot) so am feeling really tired this morning. It's a very sad day today as I find myself checking out of the Matahari Lodge and making my way across to the LRT Station for the short trip to KL Sentral. I just want to take this opportunity to say a quick but massive thank you to Mann, Lee and Zack for everything they have done for the past 17 days, if ever you needed three guys to be there and support you through the angst of Xmas and New Year in a foreign land, then these guys did that and more! It was really sad to leave but the Outer Box Experience must continue on its ... read more

New Year’s Eve 2008: PP: Well we’ve had the trip you have before the trip starts - now we are at the (original) beginning of the cruise, all shipshape and ready to go. Batten down the hatches!! Raise the anchor!! Set the Jib!! ……Or something like that - buggered if I know - something similarly nautical anyway???!!! We should leave Singapore sometime this afternoon/evening for Haiphong Roads in North Vietnam. Singapore has been a good stop for us: recovered the lost sea chest, stocked up on rum (and other wines etc. - Cruisin’ Susan doesn’t drink rum). We also managed to get some other small items which the first leg showed us would be useful, like good binoculars. We saw the expensive shopping at Orchard Road, then got our stuff in Chinatown! Found a superb restaurant ... read more

"ABOUT SINGAPORE JURONG GARDENS: Built in 1975 and designed by Prof. Yuen-chen Yu, a well-known architect from Taiwan, the Chinese Garden’s concept is based on Chinese gardening art. The main characteristic is the integration of splendid architectural features with the natural environment. The Chinese Garden is modeled along the northern Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscaping." Except of The Chinese Garden, there was Japanese,- and Bonsai Gardens, which cost an estimate $3.8 million to build. This 5,800 sq meters garden with Suzhou-style buildings and landscape houses a collection of over 2,000 bonsais imported from China and other parts of the world. Those Gardens were like a paradises in the middle of the city. That peace and quietness. The day was sunny and pretty hot. Here in Singapore is said to be three seasons : hot, ... read more

It was amazing to be able to join the rest of the 3,000 strong spectators for the Mass Annual Sing-A-Long session, 我们的歌,大家唱. This year's venue was shifted to the Creative Techonology Amphitheatre after the old venue, The National Stadium was slated to be demoblished (at the time of writing, still standing proudly @ Kallang though). The highlight of the mass concert was reached early. Mavis Hee, who was seated in the spectators' stand was asked to lead the crowd with her signature tune, 城里的月光. She was unwilling at first but after much coaxing from the hosts and audiences, she gladly took over the microphone with her flawless rendition of her 1996 classic. Too bad, we were seated quite far to take a good look at her. While most people were at the Marina Area to catch ... read more

the plane landed in Singapore at 12:45am this morning. i dont know how common it is here, but the other passengers and myself were greeted by about 15 scary, bald, security guys with huugee guns as we came off the plane...? a lovely welcome to Singapore?! i was amused and tried to take a photo, before being told in no uncertain terms to delete it. haha naughty naughty. we sped though immigration, customs, baggage and i was then ushered into a line to get a taxi (it took literally 4 seconds until one came!!) The taxi actually had seatbelts, and the driver spoke English!! this may seem standard to you but coming from Indo, its crazily luxurious. it was 1:30am by this stage but the city was lit up like day light so i could see.. ... read more

We spent the night in Singapore before we catch our flight to Malaysia. Everything is so strict, clean and orderly here. It was refreshing at first but now is wearing. Our immigration card says in big letters at the bottom "Penalty of Death to All Drug Traffickers." Very welcoming. On the wall in the area to buy tickets for public transit there is a big sign listing that we will be fined if we give incorrect change for a ticket under code such and such of law whatever. We spent the night at the YMCA since it's the only affordable bed in town at $45/night. It was very clean. We met up with a girl Wendy and I went to Santa Clara with who is from and lives in Singapore so she took us all out ... read more

Final destination, and back into the hustling-bustling modern world before we fly home to the land-o-plenty. Our first two nights in town we crashed on the floor of our CS host's flat on the outskirts of the city, which was more 'neighborhood-like' with so many commuters coming home at the end of a long day. Chris and I visited the Asian Civilizations Museum, which was extremely comprehensive, with many interactive TVs and games. I really liked touring the galleries, but after a few hours I began to have panic attacks and felt the incredible desire to escape from the building, however we had gotten separated and thus I was stuck staring out at the pouring rain and pondering whether I should go get some ice cream from the vendor across the plaza... Singapore is obviously very ... read more
