Day 1 (22/07/2022) This was the first trip with my family after I had A. We left house early hoping to beat the traffic at the Woodlands Checkpoint. The drive in was not too bad, just slight jam. We then stopped at a dim sum place (Pin Ming Xuan) for breakfast. Slight more expensive than local kopitiam, but it looks cleaner (playing safe for A). Food was not bad as well. We then drive to Mid Valley to do some grocery shopping as well as to kill some time before check in time. Me, my husband and A went to Kiddytopia, while the rest went to do their own stuff. Indoor playground in Johor was so cheap as compared to Singapore and there was no time limit as well. A enjoyed himself at the indoor playground. ... read more

The advertising slogan has us believe that Malaysia is indeed truly Asia, but the continent is indeed so vast that there might never be one Asian nation which truly defines the continent it is situated in. This was a repeat visit to an already-familiar destination, and also constitued the longest stay (20 nights) in any one nation on the world tour, so clearly, it had to amount to something pretty substantial. Kicking off the proceedings was a 2-night stay in the nation's capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and a several-times familiar city which does, I concede, tend to develop and improve palpably with each successive visit. On this occasion, the lodgings of choice was a downtown condominium, and a reasonably-priced budget option within easy reach of some of the city's hotspots. Back in 1997, Kuala Lumpur was ... read more

Back to Georgetown to visit a friend in Gleneagles Hospital, this time while I am here I did manage a little bit of a walk around and a meal in my favourite Line Clear restaurant, which is the oldest restaurant in Penang. The food in Penang is fabulous, ohh... the flavours! Cheap, friendly, fabulous outlooks make it a really enjoyable experience. Wandering around some of my old haunts actually it's nice to be back, you forget how quite Langkawi is and there's no comparison on the food front. They have proper fashion and malls here, proper hair dressers, public transport which is so easy and cheap, it's nice to get around with no hassle at all. The only option in Langkawi is taxi's which can make it expensive. After a couple of years on the island ... read more

Sunday walk around the Thean Hou Temple, although opened now for a couple of years I had never visited.... followed by a bit of a road trip to some new signs in Langkawi. Nice Sunday out. Thean Hou Temple is a major Chinese temple in Langkawi. This is the newest and biggest Chinese temple on the island. The temple was only completed in late 2017. It was built for the veneration of Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess, who is known by various names and titles including Queen/Empress of Heaven. The temple, sits at the top of a flight of grand staircase, with a grand porch and a prayer hall. The temple has colourful porcelain pieces, prancing dragons, door gods and pheonix depicted on the walls, it is all very colourful and very impressive and the caretakers ... read more

Malaysia Eating at food stalls with Thai International's manager in Penang On Penang island we were hosted by the E&O (Eastern & Oriental)...a Colonial hotel built in 1885 (now closed). We were just seated for dinner in its stuffy, formal dining room when Thai International's Manager swept in. He was a jovial - and somewhat loud - Chinese Malay who said "you don't want to eat in this place" and took us out to a night market of food stalls serving an amazing array of seafood. Delicious and fun! We took a funicular up to a Buddhist temple, which had many snakes...kept sleepy by the smell of incense. Ron had a long and controversial interview with the Straits Times newspaper. Malaysia's population was primarily ethnic Malays, but Penang was mostly Chinese. A jolly tour operator from ... read more

After buying Luigi's truck 'The Beast'... in December 2020, I have fixed many things as she was lying under a tree for three years and I've decided it's time to put some paint on her. Although I love the look, she'll end up rotting through. So here's some photos of my 'Betsie', and the progress made so far...... read more

It's the big '5'0' Birthday bash, from a cheeky wee Irish Coffee in the morning, a morning swim to friends joining me for sundowners at the Frangipani Resort in Pantai Tengah, I had a really lovely day. I arranged food from the resort which was lovely, they just seemed to have a problem serving drinks! Beer, wine..... that was it! Despite discussing with the manager our requirements it didn't happen which was extremely frustrating. Oh well, can't do anything about it so we might as well just enjoy! And we did.... Thank you everyone for coming and for the lovely gifts, cake and flowers.... spoiled girl. Thank you.... read more
