March 22nd, One day city tour Patronas Twin Tower - got up really around 6am just to make sure I get there on time to get limited tickets to go up to Twin Tower Skybridge, got the ticket for 18:30 tour , the last tour in the day, waited in line for almost 45 mins to finally get it. The Twin Tower from outside looks marvelous!! Since F1 was on for the weekend, everywhere I see there were Mercedes F1 cars, since they are sponsored by Patronas, so not surprised that they are so popular in KL; next.. KL Tower - Since the Twin Tower tour was at afternoon, so decided to go to KL tower for a view first. comparing to Twin Tower, KL tower is less popular to tourist, but i like it, there ... read more

After our morning session, we were off to Betel Leaf for a banana leaf lunch – this is a typical Indian lunch that is set out on a banana leaf and you eat it with your hands (and by hands, I mean your right hand – your left hand is considered unclean, and it’s very taboo to eat with it). I was feeling quite sick again and had spent the whole morning coughing up a storm – my flu/cold had morphed into what feels like the beginnings, if not the onset, of bronchitis. I was exhausted and not sure how I would survive lunch and another tour without passing out. But lunch managed to revive me! Our guide had told us how Indians use spices to clean the alimentary canal and improve health, and following a ... read more

The next day, we started off with a business session, and then it was off to Oversea Restauran, a Chinese restaurant recommended by our host. Me, my dad and our host had all seen the menu for the restaurant and approved it, but whether we missed something, or the restaurant just decided to do their own thing, I’m not sure…what I do know is that we had about 10 courses for lunch. Everything was delicious (I had a special non-seafood menu – that would be a theme throughout the conference), but by the end of the meal, we were all stuffed. And running almost an hour behind schedule. We agreed to cut out one of the afternoon activities, but I was unwilling to push the dinner back – it was already set for 8pm, and we ... read more

And that is (mostly) what happened. I was able to sleep a LOT on the flights going over to KL, and had picked up some flu medication, hand sanitizer, tissues and mints in London to use on the plane. So by the time we landed, while I wasn’t feeling good, I certainly was feeling better – no fever, for one! We were flying Emirates, which was an interesting experience. I was pretty excited that they had hummus as an appetizer for pretty much all of the meals, so that made me a happy camper. For some reason, even sick, I can still manage some bread and hummus. We landed in Dubai in the fairly early morning, and the airport was pretty quiet (I only know this because when we got there midday today, it was a ... read more

KUALA LUMPUR, PETRONAS AND KL TOWERS & CHINA TOWN - KUALA LUMPUR, WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN, MALAYSIA. Tuesday 28 February 2010. We drove back down the Route 59 back through the rainforest to the motorway and on to KL. On the way we stopped at the Lata Iskander Falls for a closer look. (We simply drove through on the way up). It was really nice as there was nobody else there and we had the whole place to ourselves. We took some pictures and strolled around in the sunshine before continuing on our way. On the way we passed many more Malaysian Mountain Hounds strollling around in the road. M would have brought them all home if she could. We arrived at Kuala Lumpur at 3.00 pm and followed the directions taken from Booking.com to our hotel. This ... read more

hi, Having left colder Vietnam, we hit a stormy Kuala Lumpur. Our first impression was excellent, with a guard greeting us and suggesting a cab would be the cheapest way into the city. However, this was after waiting an hour to have our passports checked as they only had one person on our line, when there was 4 on another line. After half an hour they realised their stupidity. We got to our guest house and headed out to the city. We had discovered our friend Simon from uni was also in KL so we tried to meet up with him. Unfortunelty he doesn't take his phone out with him at night but gave us a number of friends he had met. Unfortunetly Simon did not go to the correct bar but we still managed to ... read more

It was finally time to leave Egypt, and for one last time, I would have to put up with the annoying people at the airport, carrying my luggage for me and demanding a tip afterwards. I just wanted to sit down, relax and wait with my own luggage at the check-in terminal. I seriously couldn't wait to get out of here. My first transfer point was Kuwait. After that it was a seven-hour flight to Kuala Lumpur. I breathed a sigh of relief as I left Egypt for good. Malaysia was going to be far more pleasant. As soon as I cleared customs and immigration, there were no people trying to approach me. It felt amazing. Today I wasn't going to really do that much - I was tired, jet lagged, and needed to get to ... read more

Hello again everyone! After a 5 and a half hour bus journey, we arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Penang. It was 6pm and walking around confused for an hour meant we didnt check into the Arenaa Mountbatten hostel on Jalan Yap Ah Loy (Jalan means street) until just after 7pm! That evening we went to Jalan Petaling - the big street market and had some cheap yummy dinner and then went to see the Petronas Towers all lit up which was fanastic and got some great pics! The first day in KL, Sophie and I got up very early and jumped on a bus to Sunway Lagoon water park where we went on rides, saw lots of animals and went swimming in the huge pools and wave pools. On the second day we went to the ... read more

A six month self-diagnosis and review! Well it's been six months since I left the UK to embark on this incredible experience and journey of a lifetime! I don’t know why but I felt like doing an alternative blog, one containing a few facts about my travels to date, a few lessons I've learnt and best of all what I've learnt about myself, or in some cases confirmation of what I thought I already knew. I hope this isn't to boring for you all, if it is then normal service will resume with the following blogs. A few random facts.......... Number of countries visited : 12 (But this does include two touch and goes on connecting flights so I guess 10 really.) Number of cities visited : 53 Approximate air miles : 26,270km Forms of transport ... read more
