2週間... read more

日本語: As the palm fronds swayed in the gentle breeze, at times allowing the bright sun to momentarily pierce my closed eyelids as though they were little more than tissue paper, the sounds of African Grace filtered through the earphones of my ipod, accompanied by the background percussion of ocean - a two-fold tone of waves breaking, followed by the gentle hiss of seawater rushing over sand. Warmed by the sun, lulled into a state of semi-consciousness, time became a forgotten concept - left behind at the ferry terminal in Kuala Besut. Having recently experienced a summer which, well, never actually happened, this haven of sun, sand and enticing ocean was exactly what I'd been in search of. This was precisely why I had headed north-east for a few days post TravelBlog 10th birthday celebra... read more

Our flight with Airasia was changed so we did not get back to KL on the 8th (the 10th Anniversary of TB) until late evening and we had a flight early on the 9th. This meant we missed the festivities and the chance to meet famous bloggers. I hope everyone who attended had fun! We had decided on Perhentian Kecil because we wanted a bit of a busier island after the stillness of our previous Destination in Pulau Weh. Getting here was pretty simple – Plane to Kota Bharu, Taxi to Kuala Besut Port, Boat to Long Beach on Perhentian Kecil. We were unfortunate enough to be arriving during a massive downpour. This meant that we got soaked on the boat and once we pulled into the bay at long beach, we had to get picked ... read more

Finally we arrived in Kuala Lumpur! Back to better food and a quite green city!! We met Annes friend Aude, who joined us for travelling. After strolling around the streets of Chinatown and visiting a nearby lake, I finally got a netbook - and we took a bus to Kuala Besut and then the morning ferry to Perhentian Kecil, to the secluded lagoon of D'Lagoon resort. Unfortunatly it rained a lot, quite unusual for April according to the locals, but the sound of the beach, the sand, the dense forests on the island and the snorkelling options made it an ideal way for relax, chill out after rushing through Burma. Because of Aude's lack of time she and Anne decided to explore the mailand a bit more, while I decided to stay some more nights on ... read more

Our journey to Perhentian Kecil was not quick by any means, and to think we did it the "fast" way! Let's start from the beginning, shall we? When we were planning our honeymoon, Steph had posted a status on Facebook looking for suggestions for places to see in Thailand. Our Engagement Photo Photographer responded and said that out of the many places she had travelled throughout the world, Perhentian Islands were one of her favorites. She absolutely raved about them, and after some internet investigating, we added Perhentian Kecil to our "must-do" list. Perhentian Kecil is the smaller of the two Perhentian Islands, with Perhentian Besar being the "big island". We knew it was going to be quite the journey to get to the Perhentians, either by land or by air, but after all of the ... read more

We woke up bright and early and set out on the 5 hour ride to Kuala Besut, the town with the jetty that has boats going to the Perhentian islands. Our friends told us that the islands were beautiful and that we wanted to stay at Butterfly Chalets. When we arrived on the island, Mom and I dropped our bags and butts at a restaruant while Tris went out to find the best deal on a room. After hunting our side of the island and finding nothing worth it (the owner at Butterfly Chalet was a complete jerk, and the chalets were pretty dinky for the amount he wanted) he hiked over to the other side of the island and asked around there. He came back with nothing better, so we headed to the nicest and ... read more

Up for banana and honey pancakes for breakfast on the beach with Katerine and Rasmus before heading to Temple of the Sea with Mee, our divemaster. The dive was very nice, full of bamboo sharks, hawksbill turtle and blue spotted stingrays. Apparently the diving at Temple had been out of this world for the previous 2 days so, inevitably, there were too many divers out there and, whilst it was obviously a good dive to do with plenty to see, it wasn't the extraordinary one that others had been lucky to have experienced in the days before. Nevermind, you can't command nature to be there for you. So back ashore for and hour and a half, finding out that it was one of the divemasters 30th birthday that day and he was having a superhero party ... read more

So once again we were up early. This was made extra difficult because both of us had only had a small amount of sleep. And for once I wasn't the only grumpy one in the morning - even Daniel had acquired that trait for a morning. We had the usual for breakfast (surprise, surprise) and then headed for the monorail to take us to KL Sentral and from there we were getting the shuttlebus to the airport. This was an easy and quick journey and we were through check in quickly, through security and waiting for the flight, playing once again on the free WiFi.. The flight wasn't overly exciting*. AirAsia were good as usual and even the hoards of loud, shouty, bag laden tourists got settled fairly fast. I was sat next to a woman who ... read more

I woke up at 7:30 in the morning because the sun was streaming into our room and I just can’t sleep if the sun’s presence is obvious. I got some writing done and stared at a lizard on my wall for awhile while Joel slept (not a huge fan of the lizards, that one). We knew that we wanted to go snorkeling and that the trip left at 11, so we headed down to the beach at 10, bought our tickets and ate breakfast at one of the small restaurants on the beach. I ordered a blend of strawberries and bananas and they brought this overflowing glass. It was WAY too much food. We left at 11 with an older French couple and our boat driver, Yo. First we headed to fish Point, which was an ... read more

We woke up at 6:30 for our ferry at 7 in the morning. Luckily the town is small, so we arrived in plenty of time and then were walked a block over to the jetty. We were asked which of the two Perhentian islands we wanted to go to (Kecil- the more “backpacker” of the two) and which beach on the island (Long Beach – supposedly more fun/ more places to stay). Then we were sorted into speed boats for a 30-minute ride out to the island. About halfway through I was pretty sure I was going to learn to drive a speedboat and just ferry people back and forth everyday for the rest of my life. There were 3 women on our boat from an unidentified European country and they didn’t seem thrilled with ... read more
