Yesterday, the island received news that the "dog hunters" were here. To start off there are many stray dogs around the island and some cause grief here, as they are known as the "jungle dogs". But some have become the house dogs of some chalets and businesses around here. There is at Nazri Nipah, Kumba, Fifi and her little brother. The cutests dogs you've ever seen. Just happy little things that follow you around. The staff at Nazri's were determined that Kumba and Fifi's brother were not gonna get shot by the hunters. Everyone kept a good eye on them yesterday to make sure they wouldn't wander away. These hunters do not follow the pet rule.. it just doesn't exist. Even if the dog is chained or has a collar, they shoot to kill and that's ... read more

Well I'm still here on Palau Pangkor... stuck really. I was supposed to leave last Friday and what...? We're Tuesday I think? And still I keep telling myself "tomorrow". There really is not much to do on this island. It's so laidback, adn the locals are amazing. I can say that I've done absolutely nothing since being here. I met some great people, Bio "the island's shaman", Netty "the young vibrant one", Johan "our Swedish pirate: yarrr! - are you ever gonna leave this island?", Ralph "Switzerland", Audray "fellow French Canadian", Adeh "the Malay rastafarian", Rosie "the Vibe TV Addict", and the list goes on. It's not that there's anything too special to this island, but I'm just in that comfort zone now, and I can't seem to leave and I know I should be as ... read more

Got to Pulau Pangkor late yesterday afternoon. After a very short 4hr bus ride to Lumut I took to ferry to the island (20 mins). Staying a Nahzri Nimah Chalets. A nice little "A" frame hut down a road a few meters away from the beach. Really nice cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and nice guests. Pretty much laze around all day doing nothing but that's ok, that's what I'm here for. Met a Malay girl who's staying here also and invited me to go visit her "village" in Taiping a town an hour adn a half away from here. Considering it, but I'm out tomorrow so, we'll see if she's ready or not. Was going to Penang but not sure anymore. May just go straight up to Pulau Langkawi right by Thailand and from there ... read more

Hi all, well after a fantastic day in the Cameron Highlands(nice and cool) i have once again ended up on a beach! After a 3 hour ride from KL myself and my travel buddy for the week arrived just about alive after one of the most winding mountainside rides in a bus i have ever had! We then went straight on a tour of the local farms-yes-farms. We visited a Butterfly Farm, a Strawberry Farm (crap),a rose farm, a tea plantation which was great (even got to have scones and tea afterwards). Also a honey farm, and finally a chinese temple. That night we dined on Ostrich meat served on a sizzling hotplate -which presumably came from the Ostrich farm!! The next day saw yet more travelling with the highlight being armed police boarding the bus ... read more

Well,... the excitement in the Cameron Highlands wasn't quite over when I’d updated you last... I went to the internet cafe again that day to talk to mum on-line (Hi mum!) and who should I happen to sit down next to but Sian... a fellow University of Manchester law grad... it's a small world! Anyway, we spent some time catching up and then I met her and her friend Nic again later on for a couple of drinks and something to eat... well, a 'Steamboat' actually. It’s this big pot of soup that simmers over a gas stove at your table and you get presented with a load of raw meat, fish and veg, and you get to throw it all into the soup and it cooks... and tastes delicous!!! It was really just an excuse ... read more
