Even before visiting the small beach fringed island of Pangkor, I knew this entry would be brief. "We came, we lazed, we...." - no that's about it really. We descended upon Pangkor Island (Pulao Pangkor) off the west coast, as a last minute change of plan. We'd originally hoped to head east to the Perhentian island but wise Malays warned us that due to the seasonal monsoon weather on the east of the peninsula, we'd be wise not to. A quick phone call confirmed that everything had shut down until after December. Our scuba diving, PADI hopes were dashed but on Pangkor island there was sun, sea and sand and that was good enough. The island is very small and predominantly visited by Malay families on their annual break away from the hectic KL. We did ... read more

The six of us left Tanah Rata together, a band of travelers who had formed some bond over beer and idle dorm room gossip in the days leading up to departure. Each had time to kill and enough spontaneity to head in the direction of the unknown. Someone pointed on the map, the others nodded in agreement and so the Pangkor Plan was formed. The next few days were a blur of sun worship, sunburn, sunstroke, many rounds of vodka and inedible food. The mosquitoes feasted, jellyfish stung, and everyone suffered sea rock cuts and grazes that all seemed to require (according to the boys) immediate nursing attention. Outside was hot, the water was cold, the AC was freezing and a particular size of towel/hot pants were altogether way too small! All that aside however, there ... read more

Feeling a bit better today! Just laid on the beach all day really, its a hard life! In the evening we watched some monkeys outside our bungalow being very cheaky indeed. They were going through the bins it was very funny to watch. Got some good pictures to. Forgot to put the name of the place we are staying so if anyone is reading this wanting to know it is Ombak at Telau Nembak on island. Very good cheap, accomodation and friendly owners. You do get bitten to death here though!... read more

Well from Cameron Highlands we went to Ipoh to get bus to Lumat to get ferry to Pulauy Pangkor. Quite lucky as at all connections we didnt have to wait more than half hour. Got to the island and got some really cheap bungalow beach hut accomodation stone through from the beach. Beautiful beaches here. In the evening headed to a cheap restaurant had a semi argument over a game of chess and an Ozzy couple next to us asked if we wanted to join themn with cards! Pent the evening playing then went on the beach for a few beers. Really nice couple and they gave their details so we can meet up in Sydney where they were from.... read more

I figured my trip is almost over, so why not spend my last few days on an island paradise. Welcome to Palau Pangkor, a beautiful island just of the north west coast of Malaysia. The island is only about 5km by 8km so it does not take much to explore the whole of the island. If you are looking for a place to party this would not be it, but if you are looking for a relaxing getaway for a few days this would be the place. I will admit that there is absolutley no nightlife on the island and that is exactly what I was looking for. You wake up early when the sun comes up and you go to sleep rather early because there is not really anything to do. I could not think ... read more

After a couple of days enjoying Cherating's beach we headed a short distance south to Kuantan for a couple of days. Kuantan has no real callings for the tourist but it proved a cheap place to get a few things done before heading to the capital. We left on a coach fit for a King as Malaysia proves once again it is streets ahead of everywhere else when it comes to transport. After being dumped on the roadside our first emotion in Kuala Lumpur was disorientation, as there were no obvious signs that we were at our intended destination. After consulting the 'lonely planet' for guidance we found that we were in fact slap bang in the heart of backpackerville. After a small walk drab lodgings were secured and the local area was surveyed for the ... read more

When you stay somewhere too long and get to know the people who live in the area is great...but sometimes, it's too much and it needs to end, and you need to move on. That's where I'm at. It's still a great place and I'll have many wonderful memories of this place and the people I met but when everyone starts gossiping about everything which really is nothing, that's when you're like "I'm I here travelling for this?" No. So I think that tomorrow or even tonight I will be heading out. I was supposed to go to KL with Adek and Sakke, but it's really time for me to go on my own again... see something new. I'm not sure if I'll be sticking around in Malaysia or just heading back to Thailand for a ... read more

I can't explain how beautiful of a city Melaka is. It just has so much charm and history. From Chinese, to Dutch, to Portugese... I ended up staying 4 nights and met some wonderful people. Malaysians are some of the nicest people on my travels so far. Always wanting to help you and just chat. Very friendly place. Thanks! Since my last entry on Melaka, we did end up going out for a game of pool and became instant regulars at Heeren Café from the exceptionally friendly staff and customers there. We played some pool, which of course I kicked Johan's butt! LOL (sorry Johan!) We met Richard - the owner (thanks for everything! You're such a helpful and honest person) Our bartender (great service and conversation, hope your bicycle accident injuries get better soon!), Steve ... read more

Ok, so last night I was just chilling in the hammock watching a movie in the open air common room at teh cottage and guess what?... I had a moment of boredom and I decided that it's enough and I must leave now. So at 1am I decided to go to my hut and start reading about other places around Malaysia... but still haven't made a decision as to where... maybe Cameron Highlands. It is also a long weekend here in Malaysia, Labour Day, on Monday. And that means lots and lots of tourists coming to the islands to get away... that means my turn to get away also. Anyway, so I started packing my stuff and cleaning so that I have to go. So far it's 2:46pm and I'm still lounging around... uh-oh! No, no, ... read more
