We left the Perhentian Islands on Saturday morning. By that point there had been considerable rainfall over the previous day and a half but for tha ferry crossing back to the mainland we were bathed in sunshine again. The journey to Taman Negara took about 6 hours. The tourist transfer system is well worked out using minibuses which meet up and swap passengers at key points, which coincide with food breaks. Six of us set out but after our lunch stop only Carol and I continued on to Taman Negara, the others heading off tho the Cameron Highlands. Most of the roads were in good condition, occasionally the driver slowed or ended up on the wrong side to avoid pot holes- not unlike England. Der Tag beginnt mit einem Continental-Frühstück, Kaffee, Toast und vollsynthetische Marmelade. Ganz wie im guten alten England. Etwas verspätet nehmen wir den Pickup-Shuttleservice vom Hotel zum Fluss und setzen auf die Westseite über. Ziel für heute ist der Canopy-Walk, eine aus mehreren Hängebrücken bestehende Route durch die Baumwipfel des Regenwaldes. Nur etwa 1km entfernt vom Bootsanleger und gut ausgeschildert, sollte das gut zu machen sein. Der Weg führt entlang des Flusses zunächst durch das Taman Negara Resort, dann auf Holzplanken durch den Wald. Dschungel-Feeling kommt nicht so richtig auf. Wegen der Ramadanfeiertage sind viele Malayen unterwegs und die Reisegruppen aus China tun ihr übriges. Am Canopy-Walk angekommen, warten schon etwa 100 Leute und verbreiten Lärm, der alle Tiere verjagt. Po ciezkiej nocy z piejacymi kogutami i swierszczacymi konikami polnymi postanowilismy zwiedzic Park Narodowy Taman Negara. Przeplynelismy rzeke taksowka wodna i udalismy sie na slynny wiszaczy most o dlugosc 500m zawieszony ok 50 metrow nad ziemia. Gdy szlismy przez most ruszal sie on caly ale widoki byly zapireajace dech w piersiach. Po spacerku wiszacym mostem zdecydowalismy sie zapuscic glebiej w dzungle w dlugich spodniach, bluzach i skarpetach po kolana weszlismy na gore Bukit Indah oddalona o 3,5 km od naszej woski. Droga na gore byla zmienna przez rzeczki, pagorki a na koncu wspinalismy sie po linie na skalki. Z gory widac bylo piekny krajobraz parku narodowego. Wyprawa byla bardzo udana choc 40 stopniowy upal preszkadzal troszeczke i niestety po za mrowkami, pijawkami i paroma ptakami nie udalo sie nam zobaczyc zadnych dzikich zwierzat. Welcome to part 8 of the blog. After me and reuben had returned from our little trip into the jungle we found another guest had been moved into our dorm, he's name was Steeve, from Switzerland and he had booked to go on a 2 day trek starting the following morning. I woke up early the next day and managed to get a place on the same trek as Steeve. Reuben wasn't up for the trip so i left my bag back at the room with him and went to meet with the rest of the group. As well as me and Steeve there were 2 italian brothers, 2 english girls, a belgian girl, a dutch guy (bit of a twat) and our 2 guides Alias and K. Got up at about 8am as apparently it's best to get to the canopy walkway early. My slight dislike of dorms turned into a deep dislike this morning when I went to the toilet to find that someone we're sharing with cannot aim straight and they'd missed the squat bowl and pooed a bit on the floor.....urgh. Talked to one of the UK guys inour dorm about snorkelling in the Perhentians and he scared me by mentioning the 4-5ft sharks he'd seen, that are harmless of course, yeah right! Walked down to the river boat crossing near the floating restaurants (after a substantial trekking breakfast of Tiger biccies). It cost just 1RM to get over the river to the National Park which is the world's oldest rainforest (it is a very small crossing). We paid 1RM ... read more
