I realize that no trip will ever be the same for anyone—never the same ray of sun or cloudy skies, religious Sams, or Ramadans. Each journey is a unique strand intertwining in and out of a city’s braid. Ipoh to Cameron Highlands At Ipoh Bus Station, there is a mess of buses, and I fail to discover a means to find mine. The woman who sold me the Kurnia Bistari bus ticket says, “Just go there.” I look at my ticket for a clue and finally realize it corresponds with the license plate numbers. I wander about looking for the correct plate. Beside me are other foreigners whose lost expressions reflect my thoughts. One Irish couple and I find reassurance in our mutual helpless state, so we just stand, wait, and chat. The wife is eager ... read more

After stepping off the bus around 10pm the first thing that hit us was the cold air. For the first time in almost 4 months we were cold and realised we were inappropriately dressed and in desperate need of socks and jackets, so accommodation was hastily found in the form of twin pines chalet. After sampling yet again more excellent indian food it was off to bed to prepare for some trekking the following day. Upon waking up we found that the weather was amazing, so we quickly got ready and went for an indian breakfast. Armed with our map, compass and days supply of food and water we ventured off the beaten track and wandered into the thick jungle valleys and peaks of the cameron highlands. The trek was very hard although very rewarding, bypassing ... read more

Hello :) In my last update, I'd just got back from my rainforest trek. Sunday 15th August - Taman Negara to the Cameron Highlands I managed to stay awake for about 10 minutes after leaving Kuala Tahan but then was so tired I slept most of the journey to the Cameron Highlands, only getting up for the lunch stop. I woke up properly in the Cameron Highlands to an amazing view down into a valley of tea plantations. The rest of the journey was so pretty, there were loads of greenhouses with bright orange flowers in, nice trees, lots of nice colourful plants and trees, the whole place just looked nice. As soon as we got out the minibus we noticed it was immediately cooler, I'd even say it was cold. We were staying in Tanah ... read more

Yksi niistä kuului näin: The secret of success is only two words: Try harder, and harder, and harder.. Matkalle osui myös intialainen temppeli, j... read more

After Penang we went to the Cameron Highlands which is much like England weatherwise and also in that they enjoy their tea, scones and strawberries. The first night we got to the hostel it was full but they put us up on the TV lounge floor for a bargain of £1 a night. Whilst there we visited a strawberry farm and tea plantation. It was nice to get out the heat and we even had to wear jumpers and trousers although after a couple of days Laura was feeling the cold and wanted to go back to the sunshine.... read more

Everything in Malaysia is Aircon. Guesthouses offer mostly aircon rooms, stores are aircon, buses are aircon, and it’s hard to escape. Our bus from Georgetown left at 11am, we hoped on to the sound of ‘Hammertime” and rocked out to the soundtrack from Pretty woman three times over on the journey up to the Cameron Highlands in our aircon minibus. We didn’t feel the change in weather until finally arriving because of the aircon, and were surprised to find that it was just as cool outside as inside, of course we were at about 1500 m above sea level. The Cameron Highlands were amazing. Beautiful rolling hills filled with strawberry fields and thousands of acres of tea plantations in every direction. We stayed at a place called Father’s guesthouse in an old metal framed ‘nissin hut’ ... read more

Sorry there has been a bit of a gap between the last blog and this one…we have been too busy lying and basking on a paradise tropical beach and booking flights to our next paradise tropical beach - jealous? Anyhoo, instead of getting up at the crack of dawn and getting a Rapid Penang bus to the bus station and then onto a big bus we decided getting up at the crack of dawn and being picked up from our guesthouse with a smaller minibus was the better option for the (supposed) 4 hours journey to the Cameron Highlands. Of course our 7:30am pick-up was late and we were the last ones on the bus…we swear with this minibus journey we really had to bite our tongues with our fellow travellers. They were so damn rude! ... read more

Helllllllo dear people, I am going to bring you all up to date on our antics in South East Asia you will be pleased to know. We are in a place called the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, I know that this will probably annoy all of you who are stuck in England with rain and cold weather but when we arrived today it was cold and raining and it was a welcome reminder of good old England, we even went to a cute little cafe and had Tea and Scones....so good. As you may have guessed from the name the Cameron Highlands are in the mountains that is why it is colder and less humid, it is good to escape the bugs and constant heat of the previous places we have been. We left Phnom Penh ... read more
