On our penultimate evening in the Taman Negara we decided to lash out and buy in to a safari, well at least it was called a night safari. What it turned out to be was a drive around one of the local palm oil plantations in the dark, sat on the roof of a land rover with the guide casting the beam from a high powered torch into the trees. Such a venture couldn't take place in the national park since there is no vehicular access, so a plantation was the next best thing, at least it had loads of trees. It started promisingly, we almost immediately saw an owl in the beam of the spotlight, but after that it petered out. We saw a few cows, a cat - sadly not a puma type cat, ... read more

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open. — Jawaharal Nehru Cameron Highlandshas always been a romantic place for me. Chilly with temperature less than 25’C during the day and as low as 12’C during the night, I could picture myself spending a month up here doing nothing but drinking hot black tea the whole day with a book and my Mac to keep me company. The ride up to Cameron Highlands from Kuala Lumpur took about 4 hours. Instead of taking the route from Tapah, my parents and I drove all the way up North and exited the expressway at Simpang Pulai to Cameron Highlands because road condition were better ... read more

Cameron Highlands for those of you who don't know is famous for tea plantation's in Malaysia. The tea leaves are picked here and sent to Kuala Lumpur for flavouring. The first sign for Cameron Higlands Rachel was dreaming of tea and the different flavours she could have. Paul on the other hand had heard of the high quality Indian food and was dreaming of an authentic Indian dish! You would be glad to know both dreams came true, we went to Boh tea planatation and sampled vanilla tea (very nice) and passion fruit tea (tasted like air freshener). In the afternoon we went for a small trek around Mossy Forest and was shown Malaysian nature. Afterwards was a trip to the butterfly farm which had more than butterflies, large tarantula's and other creepy crawlies (Rach wasnt ... read more

I was pretty surprised to spot 3 ‘ladies of the night’ still plying their trade out front, obviously a slow Tuesday night. The 4:50am banging on our bedroom door this morning was not necessary. We opened the door to a weary-eyed receptionist saying our bus was here to go to Perhentian Islands. Two problems with this – 1, we were going to the Cameron Highlands and 2, more importantly we didn’t leave for another 3 hours! Later that morning....... now fully awake ready for the bus, I took the opportunity to grab some snacks from the local shop. We arrived in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands fairly unscaved after a pretty standard mini bus ride ... read more

The way to Cameron Highlands was stunning – lush green scenery of partially preserved jungle and palm tree plantations. When we got closer to Tanah Rata Town it suddenly got very crowded and we quickly understood that this place was also a very popular place for locals. The two of the guesthouses that we had in mind were full so we had to walk a little bit further on to finally find a room in KRS Pines Guesthouse (40RMB/13$ per room). It was still relatively close to the center so we did not mind. We left our bags and went to check what options of activities we had in this place. Of course we wanted to do some trekking but also we heard bout the amazing Mossy Forest and Prime Jungle so we wanted to check ... read more

It was a short but a much needed break from the monotonous routine of office and home. My husband Siam and I wanted to get out of the regular surrounding of friends and family and spend some lazy time together. I wanted to attend to no phone calls and no socializing for 5 days and wanted to spend the entire time with my husband alone- lazing, eating and shopping with a bit of sightseeing to refresh our minds. Malaysia was an ideal choice this time as the short travel time was an added benefit. We arrived in Kuala Lampur on 27th April morning. Though was already in an euphoric mode since 26th April evening after office hours, I was very tired by the time we got into the bus that would take us to Cameron Highlands. ... read more

Not Just An Environmental Organization, REACH Reaches Out To Orang Asli (OA) Children Cameron Highlands, Malaysia - With the elevation of just over 2400 meters, Cameron Highlands, situated in Titiwangsa Mainrange, is a getaway place for a lot of locals and tourists alike who just wants to leave the smoldering city life of Kuala Lumpur and have a breath of fresh air. The surrounding green tree –filled mountains that cover much of Cameron Highlands district is a stark contrast to what it was once before when growing tourism and development in the area almost threatened its beautiful landscape. It’s a place to hike where a variety of hiking trails can lead you to mountain forest or pass by acres and acres of tea plantations and strawberry fields. It’s still a great tourist destination in Malaysia but ... read more

CAMERON HIGHLANDS, KEA FARM, TEA PLANTATION, TIME TUNNEL MUSEUM, & WATERFALLS - TANAH RATA, CAMERON HIGHLANDS, PAHANG, MALAYSIA. Monday 27 February 2010 - . Having not gone to sleep until after 2.00 am because the water heating pipes pass through our room and were clanking and gurgling away for ages, we were woken at 6.00 am by the call to prayer from the local mosque which sounds like it is just beneath our window. At least it meant that we were up and about at a reasonable hour to start our day in the Cameron Highlands! Located in the state of Pahang, Cameron Highlands is Malaysia's largest hill station. Standing at an elevation of 1524 metres above sea level. It has a consistently cool climate that never ranges beyond 20 degrees celsius. It was first discovered ... read more
