I spent a couple of weeks in Dharamsala, trying to sort Bob out.....again, and recovering! The whole Kashmir thing had been pretty full on, so it was nice just to kick back and relax. Having said that, I didn't do too much relaxing as such. I immersed myself in activities, trying to keep busy and keep my mind off what had happened with Cloud.......yoga, silver jewellry making, macrame (jewellery making using knotwork). The yoga was fantastic. I found an amazing teacher at Buddha Hall up in Bhagsu. His name was Pancaj. Only a young guy, mid late twenties or so, who taught 6 months in Varanassis and 6 months in Dharamsala. For me, he was a great teacher. I say for me because I think everyone looks for something different when it comes to a yoga ... read more

After finishing the Rajasthan Tour we were anxious to get up north to Rishikesh where we assumed the weather would be cooler and where tourism for westerners was a little more rife. We caught an early train out of Dehli to reach Haridwar 4-5 hours later.. Shortly after we were seated on the train I began to get intense stomach cramps.. My paranoia of getting sick here was becoming a realisation, luckily we came prepared and I searched my backpack for some medication and quickly swallowed 2 tablets and just half an hour later the pain subsided.. And that was that. From Haridwar we took our first public bus to Rishikesh. The bus cost us just 30 rupees and although it was only 25 km to Rishikesh the trip took almost an hour.. The bus ride ... read more

Hello Everyone (or Namaste as everyone here seems to say!) I hope you are all well and happy. Just thought I'd write a quick note to say we've made it to India! We arrived in Delhi on Monday morning and left on Tuesday afternoon, having seen as much as we wanted to - it really is as hot, busy, noisy and dirty as everyone says! We have now retreated to Rishikesh in the foothills of the Himalayas which we thought might be a little cooler but is just as hot and dirty although a little less busy and noisy than Delhi! Here we have enjoyed views of the Ganges from the terrace outside our room, eaten a few good (vegetarian) curries, been woken by drums, chanting and motorbike horns every morning (even with ear plugs!), and ... read more

As I said, this is a Turbo Tour: Early Saturday morning (after a fantastic breakfast in the hotel dining room), I made my way to the train station, where I quickly and easily confirmed my train the following day to Agra. I then jumped on a bus and rode the one hour bumpy, trafficky ride into Rishikesh. Once again, I was the ONLY foreigner on the bus. People stared at me. A lot. Rishikesh is a peace-loving little town on the banks of the Ganges, also known as the Yoga Capital of the World - made famous by the Beatles' extended ashram stay in the 60s. It is filled with yoga centers, ashrams, Western-oriented coffee shops, and hippie-like foreigners and expats on their own path toward spiritual enlightenment. Good vibes abound in Rishikesh. It was a ... read more

Melden uns zurueck.

I made it safely to India! I LOVE QATAR AIRWAYS!! My flights from Nairobi totally rocked! The planes, the movies, the fod, the service--all excellent! I arrived into Delhi airport & was greeted by my friend Muriel's childhood friend Subodh. He is this awesome guy who is 75, very friendly, a real 'thinker'. He has a very scientific mind and analyzes life situations & then synthesizes this information into 'knowledge'. I learned so much from him in 3 short days! I did a fast & furious bus tour of Delhi. It is an interesting city of which I did not spend too much time as I was staying with Subodh & his family in the suburbs. I did a quick day trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. It was S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G. I know that I ... read more

I have been in India for over a week now, and I have stayed in Rishikesh for the majority of that time. I don't regret the decision to leave Delhi so early and come here. Its been far easier to adjust to life over here in such a laid back and easy going city. Since I am flying home from Delhi I have a chance to make up for everything I did not get to see on my first trip through, and by then I should be better equipped to deal with a big city. The last few days here have been really relaxing. Other than taking a few Hindi classes, I have not done anything really spectacular here and thats been just fine with me. I have spent my days walking through the city, checking ... read more

I arrived at the Rishikesh bus terminal with the German's I had met on the train from Delhi. We alll managed proper introductions on the bus and it turns out that David, Olga, and Lize are medical students traveling together for the next six weeks. They arrived in Delhi and have roughly the same game plan for the north of India as me so we agreed to travel together for a while. They didnt have a guidebook, and were extremely grateful to have the use of mine, and I was extremely grateful to have some companions to travel with for a while. We all decided that the first order of buisiness was to get a rickshaw, and get somewhere out of the rain for a hot cup of chai. Olga had heard of a few good ... read more

Relax... ... read more
