Hyvin asiaa valoittava esimerkki on "western toilet" vastaan "indian toilet". Tosi monessa paikassa nakee lantisen mallisia vessoja ponttoineen, joita intialaiset eivat osaa kayttaa.

Kallen tietokoneen nayton paalla istuu valtava reilu 10 senttinen heinasirkka. Viime aikoina olemme taas tormailleet eksoottisiin otuksiin. Mandin kaupunki: Saavuimme sinne kahdessa eri etapissa, joista ensim... read more

Aurovalley Ashram, Rishidwar, March 22, 2009 It’s my last day (for now) at Aurovalley Ashram and I am sitting on the marble terrace in front of my room listening to John Lennon on my iPod singing “imagine there’s no heaven,” and I can’t because I have found it. Parrots are flying in the trees in front of me, one of the beautiful young Indian women who lives and works here just hugged me and told me I have a big heart, cows are grazing in the nearby field, the butterflies are dancing among the flowers in the meadow, an assortment of different birdsongs fill the air, the scent of jasmine wafts by on the breeze, the sun is shining and there is absolutely nothing for me to do but smile and write. I feel content and ... read more

Rishikesh is said to be in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains so we went on a short adventure looking to see the snow capped mountains of this great range. Overcast skies prevented us from succeeding. On two different occasions we took short trips on both sides of the Ganges river to catch a view of the Mountains beyond Mountains. Of course the ride up involves the narrow mountain roads and the typical Indian driving style. Passing on blind curves and just blowing your horn in hopes the oncoming traffic hears and stops. No rails just shear drop offs. The hiking we were able to do was invigorating and much needed for me. At the top of each ridge were temples, one for Shiva and one for Shakti. The people we met were kind and friendly. ... read more

Ananda Prakash Yoga Ashram, Rishkesh Ashram life is not for everyone, but it sure suits me. I love the quiet focus on introspection, increasing awareness and various other healthy pursuits. The people are kind and thoughtful, the food is delicious and healthy, there’s lots of time to just BE and of course there’s yoga! At Ananda Prakash Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh the day starts at 6 a.m., before the sun rises, in the beautiful third floor yoga hall with a yoga class led by Yogi Vishvketu (Vishva). The room is graced with large picture windows that frame an unbelievable view of the sun coming up from behind the foothills of the Himalayas. It’s an incredible way to start the day. This ashram is new, just two years old, and started by my friends and teachers Vishva ... read more

Its calmer now in Rishikesh now that Holi is over. It took its toll here with one youth drowning in the Ganges and others misbehaving as noted in the comment section of my last blog entry. We have spent time walking along the Ganges and that has been great for me. The meditations and Qigong have been very special. The qi is very high. Have thought of teaching here for awhile and I noticed someone has a flyer already around town for Qigong Taichi, a 33 form Yang Style set. Don't know if I will put one up myself until we finalize our plans here. We have visited the Shivananda Ashram and Annya took the Yoga classes for ladies. Only held at 5:15 pm, the gents practice at 6 am. Since we are staying in Laksmanjhula, ... read more

We left Pushkar on Sunday at 7 pm by Taxi. We arrived in Rishikesh at our Hotel 3:30 pm the next day. Long train ride and lots of traffic. We are both feeling drained and tired. We expected Rishikesh to be something other then what it is. Neither of us really like it here so far and might leave early. Its busy and hectic here and a undercurrent of what we feel as hostile energy. Its the first place we have seen many spaced out and drugged Indians and Westerners. Annya feels downright nervous being here. From the pictures you can see that it is a beautiful place. We will explore more and video more. Hopefully we will be able to see the Himalaya mountains from a point not to far from here. That I am ... read more

All life is yoga Two days at Aurovalley Ashram and the peace, joy and wisdom of this place is already filling my soul - and this in spite of a raging head cold, cough, fever. I really am detoxifying, and I can’t think of a better place to do it in. I am sitting in my simple, lovely, perfect ashram room writing; the birds are chirping outside my window, a gentle breeze wafts through the screened windows, and the sun is streaming across the lawns and gardens and marble terraces. This is another of those perfect places, perfect moments, that I have found in India. My heart feels it has found a home - and in fact, Swami Brahmdev (Swamiji) says this is my spiritual home. He makes me feel so welcome, and so free to ... read more

New Age. Sounds pretty good, you’ve got to admit. A damn site better than old age, at any rate. Two words, just six letters, promising to banish all past woes and conjure thoughts of inspiration, the dawn of a fresh era, as if everything gone before was fallacy soon to be cast out, summoning in a new epoch of understanding. The truth is, unfortunately, that anything with New in the title is not to be trusted. They all sound so enticing at first, everything just peachy, but before long the taste turns bad and you can’t fathom how you were ever sucked in: the New Romantics, New Man, New Labour, New Kids on the Block. All fresh-faced inspirations in their time, only to turn into washed-out has-beens faster than Simon Le Bon could capsize his next ... read more

As I was looking down upon the rooftops of Bundi, I realised that India is a voyeurs wet-dream. In India life takes place outside, simply because many people can't afford the luxury of privacy. They bathe at the ghats, rivers or at a water-pump, they do their laundry outside, they cook outside, they relieve themselves behind a small wall or a bush or just in a gutter and some even sleep outside. And all this within the watchful gaze of everybody else. Of course it is so normal that most people don't give it a second glance, it is only us travelers that are fascinated and mesmerized by the total openess of it all. And so I looked from my vantage point down at the women hanging their freshly washed laundry out to dry on the ... read more
