After Agra Brett and I headed to Jaipur, which is in the North Western state of Rajisthan. This city is hustling with energy and a strong economy. For the most part the begging and such is quite minimal to Agra, but still fairly active. Our Hotel was magnificent as we felt like kings, a little more plush then we needed. Pictures coming soon. We spent the whole day sight seeing yesterday throughout the city and also a visit to the Fort Amber (Ameer) in the outskirts. We really enjoyed the fort as we got lost a number of times in the maze of rooms and courtyards it holds. We hope to put some pictures up soon. We also went to the City palace where the largest silver flasks/pots in the world are held. The king of ... read more

Hello all, (Cindy) This is James entry... Trust you are keeping well. Didn't get to see the Saints pompey game but it sounds like we gave the skate a good thumping! We decided to get an earlier flight to Singapore from Delhi. Arriving here at 5am yesterday morning. We didn't have a problem finding something to do though as there is always somewhere to sit and chill for a while. We are staying in Little India funnily enough! Just stopped by at the Funan Centre. Toys everywhere you look. Cindy chilled out here in the cafe whilst I browsed around all the geeky stuff for a while. Whilst we are here though I thought I'd tell you about some funny things that have happened to us... When we first visited the Taj Mahal we were awestruck, ... read more

Well I arrived in Jaipur a couple of days ago and it is an amazing place. The whole city if full of gates, old palaces and much of the city looks like it was built 400 years ago. Yet India with its traffic and crazy drivers are still in the midst of this beautiful city. India is an amazing place and as many will tell you, you have a love/hate relationship with this country. There are many interesting things that one would see on a daily basis that are amazing. Today for instance I went to Amber for and 2 other ones. Amber fort is the most popular and amazing fort. They have indian elephants painted lavishly that will give you a ride up to the fort. The fort is in decent shape with many beautiful ... read more

Here are some travel things to note on India: TAXIS: They are always trying to take you so be careful, they never stop trying to hustle you out of money. They are the worst I have ever seen and lie through their teeth constantly to get money. COWS: The cows are amazing ,there are not many in Delhi but only on the outskirts of the city. They mingle amoungst the choas of cars like they were nothing. People seem to feed them also, I even saw a guy with a cart with a ton of grass and he just went around feeding the cows. MONKEYS: The monkeys are really cool but hard to find in the major tourist areas, Jaigur for in Jaipur has a ton of them. I saw about 30-40 in one spot ... read more

I arrived in Pushkar in an overnight bus from Udaipur yesterday morning, about an hour before sunrise. Other than the couple tea stalls offering me and my rickshaw driver some chai (and the stray cows and donkeys chewing on cardboard) it was a pretty ghost townish morning. I sat on the table-on-wheels variety of rickshaw and practically jolted from my half-wake half-asleep state when the megaphone attached to the neighborhood mosque announced the first of 5 daily prayer announcements. Something I may not have eluded to in previous blogs is the faith-rich culture of this country I've been exploring. The loud announcements blasting at 5-6 am may not be the most welcomed sound, but it connotes a level of religious freedom that is different than that found in my country (ironically, founded on freedom of religion). ... read more

After a couple of days of air and train travel we are now in Jaipur, the Pink City. We found a very nice hotel with hot showers, which we both badly needed. I walked out into the courtyard this morning to find monkeys swinging around and peacocks flying about. There seems to be a new suprise everytime I turn around. We took an autorickshaw around the city today with our new friend and driver, Ali. He is a karma believing muslim that is about our age. We explored some ancient buildings and tombs today, including the Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort. We also checked out the Jantar Mantar which is a huge astrological playground full of enormous stone instruments used to map the many celestial beings. Our favorite thing here is the many elephants that inhabit ... read more

India is an amazing place and I guess I have been more critical of India because I am from here. But still the people here are incredible, they are really smart but argue and cannot decide on anything. The people are generous and then you will turn around and meet someone rude. It is a country of hot and cold.... read more

It's difficult to share what has happened in the last week. Everyday I could fill an entire blog!! I'll just highlight my route, first, to let you know where I've been: After Kochi I left quickly for Mysore - nice town, fun bazaars to walk through and an interesting palace surrounded by several temples. After 1 full day, I left for Bangalore to visit friends (from my church in California) who have started a Christian music college. I will spend 2 weeks in the later part of my trip volunteering with them, but I thought that it would be fun to stop by for a New Years visit. And spending time with the Henson's was fantastic! They are such a fun family and I can't wait to see them again. There were tons of cool markets ... read more

*** I wrote most of this blog before we became aware of the devastation caused by the recent Tsunami which is why there's little reference to it. It’s been particularly shocking for us as many of the destinations of our trip so far have been severely affected. We've heard back from some people we met in southern Sri Lanka who are safe and well but fear the worst for the many guest house people that we've met on the way. We’re probably far less aware of the extent of the tragedy since travelling through India it’s very easy to lose touch with world news. *** ============================================== Plane, trains, and automobiles...coaches, buses, boat, motorbike, bicycles, rickshaws, floating bamboo basket; we have needed them all to travel the vastness that is India but have as yet only covered ... read more

hello all! it has been almost two weeks since i last wrote a blog. time sure flies by here- because it doesn't feel that long ago. but at the same time it feels like ages ago since new year's eve. i know- it makes no sense. but india has a way of disorienting you ;) so i am slowly making my way down south with my new travel buddy keith. we hung out a bit in rishikesh and found we had tons in common (a pisces moon, surreal meditation experiences, a very prominent spiritual path which we had just begun) and it just felt right to travel with one another. he was drawn to a place called tiruvanamalai where the rastafarian eckhart tolle i heard speak on christmas day is headed to teach. it is in ... read more
