Went to jaipur last year for a few days, so saw most of the sights then... Booked our first deluxe bus tickets to Ajmer for tommorow. Spent the day in Jaipur avoiding children who were trying to pick pocket us and rickshaw wallahs who were tryng to send us the wrong way! We went to he city palace museum - which was quite expensive for india Rs 200 each; but we spent 2 hours there. We attempted to go in the Junega art gallery and modern art gallery *the modern art gallery looked closed - no westerner in sight and everyone staring at us, so we did not bother *Junega art gallery was more like a shop ,so we didn't bother! Went back to the hotel and sat in the owners sitting room to write an ... read more

Decided to leave Bharatpur, as not a great deal to do and no where to go apart from a couple of e-mail places and fed up of being the only ones there!(had definetley gone at the wrong time) We both had iffy tummies (this will be a theme for our 5 months in india!!). Had minimal breakfast- plain toast and honey toast! Set off to catch the bus- rickshaw wallahs flagged one down for us thankfully; we got the "superior bus" (Mmmm!!) The bus was Rs 90 and took 4 squashed hours. We got a rickshaw to "pearl palace"- "top hotel"; aircooled, bathroom, tv for Rs 350. Had lunch at 17:00! (had my first vege burger) . Wonderful roof top garden- lush in the evening. Bri had nowt and I had yet another tomato soup for ... read more

Bri's poorly day today- we are only on day 5 and delhi belly has already hit... Had our first ghekko join us for the evening last night- could sit and watch them for ages (fab!) After a late start we went for lunch at the Sunbird- had tomato soup !! and cheese pakoras. Went to the keoladeo ghana national park- hired 2 ramshackle bikes for Rs 50 and a guide for Rs 70. We saw egrets, spotted owl, several varieties of heron, 2 large stark types, kingfisher, parakeets, loads of small exotic birds, antelope, turtles (huge) , monkeys, watersnake and a minotaur lizard (it appears that we saw a lot, in reality however, if Bri and I had been on our own I don't think we would have seen anything!!!!) The guide kept taking us off ... read more

Off to Bharatpur via a local bus- it was fine, we thought its would be a nightmare. We got a room (bathroom and aircon) at the falcon guest house for Rs 200- we were the only ones staying there (infact I think we were the only people staying in bharatpur as we were out of season for the birds!) We arrived at the guest house in the middle of "prayer day"- oops! We had lunch and wandered for a while... nothing to see apart from the national park , which we plan to go to tommorow. Decided to go on the internet- it took us 2 hours and 2 computors to use hotmail! We had to order our evening meal in advance, which we did and ate at 20:00. Sat and chatted to the owner for ... read more

“Delhi-Belly” New Delhi, India 2nd February - 22nd February 2002 Six months into a new career as a Business Analyst in London, the project schedule called for software testing to be undertaken at our software house (TCS) in New Delhi, India. This process required a collection of regional representatives to meet at TCS and attempt to “break” the application we had recently built. My job was to over-see the testing and ensure our regional “chaps” kept to the pre-defined schedule. At this point in time, my international travel itinerary since moving to England consisted of only a long weekend in Barcelona, so my reaction to upgraded flights to Delhi was somewhat enthusiastic. Accommodation, courtesy of my employer, P&O Nedlloyd was the Taj Mahal hotel, New Delhi and I arrived there with my boss, Gordon Pow on ... read more

The trian ended up reaching there at six........that NIGHT, so without knowing this we had not brought any food or water on the train, thinking it was only one night, and the amazing thing was there wasn't a single seller on the whole train, no lunch cart, no station stalls, nothing. so we starved, got dehydrated, sat in empty carriages with the sand lashing against us for the whole day, pissed off and tiredly arriving in jodhpur that evening. from then on it was simple. the rickshaw driver knew a great hotel, it was, we stayed there two nights, the rooftop had a close and amazing view of Mehranger fort perched on the top of the hill, the restaurant was excellent, there was a brandy shop through the old town market and we met some great ... read more
