Today was spent at Ranthambhore National Park one of the original project tiger reserves. It’s a beautiful park full of lakes, scrublands and ruined palaces. Unfortunately we weren’t lucky enough to see any tigers that day but it was still well worth the trip. I definitely prefer rural life in India rather than the hot and crowded city streets. ... read more

Didn't sleep as well last night which was disappointing. Also sad to get up early again. Left at 7.45am and went to an animal shelter. Was nice to see the animals get some help and were some really cute puppies. Gave a donation then headed to Ranthambhore across a road that seemed to get bumpier and bumpier and was really hot in the vehicle - Sarah moved up front as she wasn't feeling too well. Toilet stop was side of the road by some not so thick bushes but really just got out of sight o cars then didn't care much. Got here and got our rooms which are nice and it would be a lovely place if it weren't for all the children - must be a school trip. The grounds are nice and it ... read more

For anyone who has a love of animals, I can strongly advise you book a flight to INDIA, and head south to the Ranthambhore National Park in Rajasthan. Even my wildest dreams were beaten with a stick and thrown down a deep pit. We had a very nice 4 star hut, with all the wistles and bells. But, the greatest and only reason to go are the TIGERS. You can't beat the feeling, from the first time you see one of these majestic creatures walking around in the wild. If you love animals. GO!... read more

Finally time for the big summer trip and this time daddy took me to India and Nepal for 5 weeks. He had never been to these two countries, so it was a first for both of us. After about 30 hours of travel time and dad having to run with me in the backpack at JFK airport to catch the flight (I was laughing while he was sweating), we arrived in Delhi. We did not stay long, as we arrived late at night and had to catch a train early the next morning to Sawai Madhopur to go to Ranthambore park to try to see a tiger. The train was a lot of fun, and dad told me that the best travel device he ever bought was the portable DVD player that I used. It was ... read more

Jessica's background as a Roseburg girl paid off as she out-did the official paid guides and spotted the tigers in the the Indian National Park of Ranthambhore. Jaipur was interesting, but we were ready for a place where there was no pressure to shop, no constant barrage of street vendors and touts. We enjoyed our time in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, but on a trip to India you need to arrange time away from the urban areas. Our trip to Ranthambore National Park was very interesting...the road was in terrible shape and the 200 km (160 miles) took us about 5 1/2 hours (with a stop for lunch). Being harvest time we dealt with these unbelievably overloaded trucks and tractors filled with grain and straw. When the road is worse, the driving gets scarier -- but ... read more

We have just had the most surreal couple of days. Last night we went on an evening safari to try and find some Tigers in the Ranthambhore jungle. In typical Indian style, as soon as we entered the jungle our jeep broke down with a split tyre. The driver spent over an hour trying to repair the wheel before we were on our way! During that time there was a nervous silence while the jeep was repaired. Unfortunately we didn’t see anything that evening but we were just relieved we didn’t end up as dinner. The following morning we spent over an hour following a 2 year old female Tiger. She was a beautiful animal. It was the most surreal experience that I would recommend to anyone. Our guide told us there is 10% chance of ... read more

Kathleen Kerwin heard about the Tiger Safari in India so off we went in search of Tigers. "Ranthambore is a national park and tiger reserve in the Rajasthan state of western India. It is located in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, about 130 km from Jaipur, which is also the nearest airport. The nearest town and railway station is at Sawai Madhopur, 11 km away. The park lies at the edge of a plateau, and is bounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. There are several lakes in the park. It is named for the historic Ranthambore fortress, which lies within the national park. The park covers an area of 392 km², and is famous for its tiger population, and is one of India's Project Tiger ... read more

Casey : we stayed in Ranthambore the other day and we got to see a baby Leopard called Laxmi- pronounced-lucksmee. We didn't see a tiger but who needs to see a tiger when you can see a baby Leopard???? We stayed at hotel Vatika and there was a very nice guy there called Vishnu and he gave us a free breakfast on 1 of the tours!-YAY! Now I'm in Delhi and I bought a book about 2/3 thirds of an inch thick which I read in 2 and a half hours. How annoying. Wendy: Yes we did actually make it to Ranthambore Park after a marathon effort from the three of us to stay awake through the various trains, queues, hotel check-ins and outs, etc, etc... Had a blissful one hour sleep on possibly the softest ... read more
