So my first few days of India have been quite the experience. I got ahold of Vishs uncles info and went to his place on the 23rd and just chatted with him for the day. Had some time for naps and 2 AMAZING home cooked Indian meals (spinach/cheese curry, kidney bean curry, vegetable curry, rice, roti mmmmmmmmm, red carrots that are so yummy). Warren, Vish, Sanja and Neha all got in around midnight on the 23rd as well. We went on a tour of Delhi the next day to see the touristy sights. The traffic here in unreal!!!!! No renting scooters here, it seems kinda crazy just to walk on the road. Went to a market as well, everything is soooo cheap, wish I had more room. I bought a pair of nice jeans for $10 ... read more

My friend Kirsten came to travel with me over the holidays. We went straight to the party-beach town of Goa. Goa has a large population of Christians, so Christmas is really celebrated here. The entire town was decked out in lights and Christmas decorations. It almost felt like christmas there (no snow of course!)... read more

Goa First, I want to say that T and I really appreciate hearing from everyone. It's so much fun to read your comments and it feels like you are all with us. We arrived in Goa after an overnight train ride from Mumbai. The Shahani's have a villa that they invited us to stay in with their vacationing son Arun. He lives in Sweden working as a chef and spends the winter summering in Goa. The very first thing I did was put a plummeria in my hair and we went off to the beach. So far we have experienced India-lite. Even in the chaos of Mumbai it is safe to say that they are prepared for tourists and so things are clean-ish (most restaurants serve filtered water, bath rooms are westernized and there is even ... read more

Well, here we are in Goa, the Christmas destination :) spent a few nights in Panjim when we got off the train to find our flipflopped feet and beachwear!!! Now we're down in Calangute for a few days before making it to Armbol which is where we were initially meant to stay but hey, its christmas in a chrisian state and things get booked up quick :) So yes, Arambol for the celebrations with some friends, markets and generally chilling - there's not much to do on a beach except drink and read About the past week, we went to Aurangabad from Mumbai to go see some caves at Ellora and Ajanta - not normal caves mind, caves hand carved out of ... read more

Its hilarious me and Paula can't even work out what date the tour ended or how many days it was. I'd like to say "We were in goa from blah date to blah date" but i just can't. Maybe you can work it out for us? Calangute 3 days Now that I'm writing this I can't picture Calangute that well in my head unless i look at the photos i guess this is the downside of not writing this! Luckily I have been writing my journal as a reminder! Me, Paula and Rob stayed at pretty much the second place we walked into which was good, Angela's Guesthouse by Coco Banana on Golden Beach Rd. 200 rps a night (about 2. 50 a night) we did pretty good for ourselves. The guys we met upon arrival ... read more

Yeeppie... Now we can talk about holiday.... We arrived to Goa yesterday late at night with a group of fantastic Australians which we met at the station. The train was late 3 hours what apparently is normal here so we had a great fun watching people at the station. Actually they had a great fun to watch us... Australians are so funny and there is one disable guy James called sometimes by his friends "legs" as he has some major problems with leg's muscles since he was born. He is a hero for me, he managed to jump on the parachutes, and he is a great and very happy guy. To travel by train it is a big thing and special if you want to go to the toilet. There is a hole in the floor, ... read more

I arrived in Goa at about 3:00pm and it was an hour's drive to the airport. I checked into the "Casa de Goa" to find it wasn't exactly as advertised. They two bars were actually a few tables on each side of a corner bar while the coffee shop and the hotel restaurant consisted of these same tables. There were two pools, although one was round, only a foot or so deep, and about four foot in diameter. The wireless was "broken", although I suspect they didn't actually have it based on the puzzled looks I got when I asked about it each day. The free bottle of wine was the worst thing I've ever tasted and undrinkable after the first sip. The room was OK, although it turned out that the hot water heater was ... read more

Goa has a special place in my memories. It is the place where I met my husband and also because this was my first expedition alone. I had heard that the new year eve is celebrated with much fun and frolic in Goa.As I had been selected as a lecturer in a college and had been saving money for something special, I decided why not take a trip to Goa.I found that people in North India are much intruding and misbehaving towards a lone female traveller. Though I didn't face such problem in Goa. Goan history: Often known as 'The Rome of the East', Goa was ruled by a great number of Indian kingdoms and dynasties from the 4th century onwards. The name 'Goa' is derived from the Konkani (The Goan Language) word 'Goyan', which means a ... read more

We arrived at around 8AM. Because we had been on a non-stop train for 38 hours, we hadn't been able to brush our teeth or use decent toilet facilities. We were therefore feeling pretty rough. We decided to save money on a taxi, so we got a bus to Panaji, which is trhe capital of Goa. We had to get one more bus to Calangute, which is where we had planned to stay. We got off our hassle free bus journey and tried to find the YHA hostel recommended to us. We had all of our bags and it was very hot, so the walk was very unpleasant. We arrived at the hostel, where they fortunately had one room available. We paid 300INR each and dumped all of our stuff. We were absolutely exhausted and so ... read more

Hello all and any who check out my random travel rants.... Goa is the most bizare resort that I woke up in last Thursday - it is situated half the way down the west coast of India (about 150 KMs from Mumbai). From Goa airport I managed to get away without being persuaded to step into a taxi 700/800 Rubbies. Instead I managed to engineer 3 local buses that took me all the way to Calagunte for about 35 Rubbies. This is sadly where my seasoned travel instincts ended and I happily decided to become an affluent beach tourists. After checking out some nasty cheap hotels that were filthy I stumbled upon a Swedish owned resort called the Charleston (I actually forgot the name one day and managed to get back by remembering the Charleston dance ... read more
