Geo: 15.0371, 73.9894Ráno se probouzíme v busu naprosto osamoceni. Všichni už dávno vystoupili a my pokračujeme do cílové stanice sami. Nasedáme a hned si všímám tří čechuů. kteří v autobusu už se... read more

Monday 25th November 2013 We all arrived at Delhi Airport at about 10am local time. We assembled outside the departures doors and said our goodbyes. Most of my fellow trekkers were boarding a plane bound for the UK in a couple of hours. Lynda was catching a plane back to Australia, Jody was meeting with a guide to show her around Delhi before heading off on her tiger safari for a few days before returning to South Africa, and I was going to meet Dave who was arriving from London and we would continue our journey together down to Goa. As I got to the doors of the airport I could see there were armed guards on the doors and much to my horror would not let me in as Dave had my ticket to Goa ... read more

We finally decided to visit Goa after hearing so much about it, being the most visited place in India. But we had only 2 days to stay so I decided to visit South Goa instead of North and the usual Baga and Calangute. For me there is more places in Goa unexplored rather than the touristy ones. I like calm sort of place not the party places. So Agonda was perfect in our case. We took the Konkan railway route and what a journey it was. The train journey was itself a sight seeing tour, with the trains climbing the mountains and going on the top of it. We passed the Dudh sagar waterfalls on the way, with the train going over it. The view was spectacular. The falls is in itself a famous tourist spot. ... read more

A short flight from Delhi with a brief stop over in Mumbai found us in Goa. We were a bit uncertain as to what to expect but were delighted when the pilot informed us the temperature in Goa was a pleasant 32 degrees - yay!! For our first few nights we stayed in a little hut on Mandrem beach (North Goa), it was basic but perfect for us and it was such a relief to arrive somewhere so warm, quiet, laid back and of course, right next to the beautiful Arabic sea! We discovered a beach front restaurant (well a large hut with a kitchen) and spent a few lazy mornings and afternoons hanging out there, in between swims and walks along the beach. We had planned to stay 4 nights in South Goa. The taxi ... read more

After leaving the serenity of Om Beach, we began our adventure northwards into Goa proper. We left our beloved Ganesh cafe, and headed off to the Gokarna train station which kind of looked like it had been abandoned, due to lack of interest. We did however find an interesting local soft drink, marketed under the unlikely name of Jeera Masala Cola. Intrigued, we purchased a bottle. Initial reactions were as to be expected, not great, with each of us grimacing, and then gagging when we had a taste. As the name suggests, the drink tastes a lot like a stock made of curry spices, flat diet pepsi and water. We agreed that the Coca-Cola corporation was safe for now, and boarded our train. One hour later, and we had arrived in Agonda. Avoiding a fight that ... read more

Hello there. After leaving Benaulim in the early hours we were very braveand caught the bus to our next destination.......... We have been at Agonda beach (still in the Goa region but the very south) now for 2 days. Its much more quiet that Benaulim and we are very pleased with our efforts. To the left there are someexciting rocks in the sea that we plan to swim out to sometime if Rob decides that he in no longer scared of the deep water. We have also seen dolphins playing just less than 200m offshore. We have rented a beach cottage (actually a shed by the sea) for the week til saturday when we will head further north. It must be mentioned that we have been trying lots of fishy dishes and that Katie is very ... read more

Halloo! How are you all in the evil minus eight climes of blighty?? I think Tel would dearly love to be in minus eight at the moment as he has managed to get sunstroke!?! Surely it should be the blue skinned ginger one who gets sunstroke rather than the olive skinned cockney one!! I’m not being mean he’s been really poorly but is almost on the mend! The sunstroke came from our first trip out of palolem!! We started early (well 8!) and got into a Bedford rascal that does about 20 mph full tilt, dodged all the cows out for their early morning stroll, and went to the next beach Agonda. (A small aside, there are cows just everywhere here, wandering the beach in shops, in bars and on the road, it’s mental!) We were ... read more

Well we finally made it to Goa, arriving at Agonda yesterday. They say that travel in India is hard work but never boring. Travelling by bike is very hard work. I've been run off the road on numerous occasions mainly by buses coming head on, normally overtaking trucks, who themselves are overtaking motor bikes or cars. The buses refuse to pull in or fall back, instead they expect you to get out of the way. This is not a problem when there is a verge but sometimes all there isn't anywhere to go. To be fair the buses are not just picking on us they will do it to any vehicle smaller then themselves. However, this, along with the pollution and constant sounding of horns by every vehicle that passes you has caused us to question ... read more

So we have been having a great old time in Palolem, almost like a proper holiday really and have really enjoyed meeting tons of people. Catherine bonded with an indian who has obviously either watched loads of Eastenders or talked to loads of english backpackers as he spoke like a market stall holder. I thought he was a twat straight off but humoured Catherine only to be confirmed right when we had discovered he had added loads of beers and his dinner to our tab. Payment back was given when Catherine tried to change the music, cutting off all sound througfhout the bar and earning Sanjay a slapping from his boss. Since we never saw him again we think he may have been sacked. Our last memory of him was him trailing us down the beach ... read more

Agonda - Local Beer - Kingfisher & mucho vodka. “How much for a Tuk Tuk to agonda my friend?” “400 rupees Sir.” “400 Rupees!!! No chance mate. Miles too expensive… 300 Rupees yeah?” “No no Sir. It’s very long way. I big family to feed.” “Ok mate, I’ll just take this 300 Rupees and feed another driver’s family then, see ya” “Noooo! Sir, wait, Ok then Sir….. 300 Rupees!” After tense negotiations with our Tuk Tuk driver we squeezed our rucksacks into the back and got the hell out of Palolem. Don’t get me wrong, Palolem is a pretty nice place but recently over-commercialised and packed to the bamboo rafters with package tourists. You could be anywhere in the world. So, in a quest for serenity and pure Indian idyllic tranquillity, we set off on the ... read more
