Just returned from Agonda and Palolim in south Goa. A 2 hour taxi journey to a tiny little Indian village with an unspoilt beach fringed with coconut palms and the Arabian sea. We walked for about an hour and hardly saw anybody. We stopped at a shack for a beer and the owner offered us accommodation in a small hut on stilts, made of palm fronds for the princely sum of two pounds fifty a night. It was so peaceful and restful I nearly took him up. We moved on to another beach a little more commercialised where we had a swim followed by lunch and more beer. South Goa is a superb place... read more

So, I wanted to get out of Kolkata, not sure if future strikes were coming, certain I wanted to meet up with my friend for her 30th birthday, so booked the cheapest ticket: Goa. I heard all about Goa from some party travelers in the North. I was not keen on this scene, so I told myself to get acclimated quickly, and then head down to Karnataka. But then I found my favorite beach of all time: Agonda. I lived in a simple cocohut on stilts, no fan, but it had a mosquito net. Dirt road. No trance music. Cows and their poop. Fishermen. 40 rupee thalis. Life was very very nice. Then I started to accumulate friends on the beach and put them all in the hut village next to mine. I met an American ... read more

I'll admit its a bit of jump in time as you all probably think we're in Laos or Thailand. I'll put my hands up, the blog is a little behind but you're enjoying it right? Anyway, we just thought we'd post a Christmas blog for those of you crunching their feet through the morning frost or wrapping up in your thickest coats. We didn't think Santa would find us this year but on the morning of Christmas Day 2006 we awoke in the most unfamiliar Christmas surroundings, climbed out of the mosquito net and opened the bamboo shutter out to the beach at Agonda, Goa, India. Our perfect little bungalow had been part decorated by the previous tennants and was the envy of the beach with a prime beach location, hanging textiles coloured lanterns outside. With ... read more

We realised not long after leaving Mumbai why everyone was selling jumpers and hats. We were the only ones on the train without either of those and a heap of blankets and it was absolutely freezing! The icy wind which flowed freely through the open train doors was assisted by numerous stops at all hours where Chai Vendors noisily shouted their way through the carriages and made for a lousy night for us both. When we jumped down from our bunks in the morning to watch a landscape of palm covered hills and wide rivers slide by our fatigue subsided and we spent the remainder of the journey enjoying our first Indian rail experience. The journey to Canacona took much longer than we'd been led to believe but after spending time hanging out of the open ... read more

hey all... so we are now in agonda, as michael has written. i forgot my usb thing to get pix out of my camera, so no pix this time. it has been amazing here. so peaceful so wonderful. our hut on the beach feels like a campground in the tropics. we are constantly warding off little ants and thank god we brought the bug spray... more importantly... the afterbite. but it is not really a disturbance. its just a part of being here. the other part of being here is a lazy little costal town where even just after 2 days here we are seeing familiar indian and non-indian faces. we have had ongoing conversations with one guy from england - he is intriguing to me. i really loved watching him (upon arrival) just stare at ... read more

We found the beach weve been looking for....and it's called AGONDA! For 150rupees a night ($4.50USD) we are staying in a tiny hut, footsteps away from the Arabian Sea. It is so quiet here and the water is nice and warm. All that we have done for the past two days is games of dominoes, reading, swimming and eating seafood. The beach scene here is strange.........there are maybe 30people on the entire stretch (1.5miles) of beach......but there are about 40 cows that are always roaming around. Never in my life would I ever thought I'd be concerned with a cow eating my snack-food while I was swimming in the ocean! Also, it seems that heavy-set/fat people are considerd very wealthy here in India, so I (Michael) feel like Donald Trump!! It's great.....and alot different from the ... read more
