09/03/07 Today is another challenging day for the teachers. The students will be staying with their buddies for two nights after their afternoon lessons. In order to help them interact better with their buddies, we decided to give the students some ‘home’ work. We printed some English passages and asked our students to teach their buddies during their home-stay. Hence in the morning, our English teacher, Ms Hidaya, conducted an ‘English’ lesson for our students, teaching them how to teach English. The students were motivated and were taking notes during the session. Not surprisingly, our sec two students had problems understanding the supposedly easy sec-one passages. Dear Parents, Sorry to disappoint you. There is no update on your child's activity today. No news actually means good news. I remembered receiving 11 phone calls from the students during the first home-stay, telling me that they wanted to go back to hostel. This time round, we received only one phone call, from Hui Jun's Buddy. Hui Jun wasn't feeling well today after lunch, and Mr Chew and her Buddy's parents brought her to see a doctor. There was nothing serious, just mild gastric flu. This evening, we brought her back to hotel to stay with the teachers. She has taken her medicine and is now resting. I'm glad to say that I'm really proud of the students, especially the non-Chinese students. Their attitudes have improved tremendously and are beginning to adapt to the cultural ... read more

As usual, the day started with our students observing, and some even participating in the classes that they have been assigned. The students were troopers; soldiering on even though there was some communication barrier. After lunch, they attended some enrichment courses - Calligraphy and Tai-Chi. The students enjoyed themselves immensely as they proudly displayed their hidden artistic talents yet again. They even learned 10 out of the 24 basic Tai-Chi moves! The highlight of the day was the birthday celebration of both Roslina and Liang Xiu. The teachers treated the students to two massive birthday cakes and these were devoured by everyone in no time! The birthday girls were ‘sabotaged’ by their friends but soon after the ‘cake-smearing ritual’ spread to the rest of the students! They had lots of fun! After dinner, the students were ... read more

Dear parents and friends, There was a network problem in the hotel. Just resolved 15 minutes ago. Seeing so many comments from all of you is heartening. I'll pass the messages to your children/friends tomorrow's morning, as early as possible. Please do not send email to me during this period. I may not have the time to check my mail. We bade farewell to our principal, Mrs. Oh today. She left a very impactful message for our students - Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, Be There and Play (FISH Philosophy). The students did quite a fair bit of reflection today and from what the teachers can gather, the trip has been very meaningful for them so far.
