Well we are back in the calm of Beijing on our last night before jumping on the trans-Siberian express to Moscow. We are all sorted including being huge stereotypes and buying War and Peace (For Clare) and Crime and Punishment (For myself) to get us in the mood. Clare thinks she will polish off War and Peace in 2 days???????? We will see..................... The last few days in Beijing have been pretty cruisey; we have both had a bit of cold/flu/runny nose/being a bit soft etc. The 30c drop in temp since leaving Oz the main culprit. Clare completely lost her voice, which was great (I won’t send her this one she’ll never know I said that??!) She had a pretty funny experience at the doctors- an old Chinese lady treated her we don’t know what ... read more

13th January 2007 What an incredibly eventful and fun-packed day! My alarm went of at 6am. Groaning with the pain of having to get up even earlier than for lessons, I rolled over to shut the gentle twinkling of my mobile up and felt the effects (of the massage) of the night before: something similar to post-stiffness of falling down the stairs, bumping every step along the way. However, this was no reason to be glum, as today we had a group trip to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Hongqiao (Pearl (this doesn't actually mean pearl, but that's the translation)) Market. Today was forecast to be rather chilly, several degrees below zero, so I donned my thermals and numerous layers, seven in total if I recall correctly, and headed out ... read more

Well, we arrived at our hotel in Beijing at about midnight last night and were knackered! Had been travelling for over 24hrs in total! 3 lots of feeding on aeroplanes though. We think we're going to be aeroplane food tasters for the next few weeks! lol. We were v impressed with the flight from Hongkong to Beijing which was run by Dragon Air. We were at the front of cattle class and had quite a bit of extra leg room, and they even gave us a menu to choose what we fancied for our meal. Hayley decided to ask for a glass of red wine to go with her meal and I thought I'd join her, unfortunatly this is where her clumsiness started and she spilt it all over her top! We're finding getting used to ... read more

Today I wake up at 1 am...shit. Absolutely nothing to do... A store downstairs is still open so I grab some dried noodles (similar to Ramen, but much better tasting) for like 3 kuai. Walking around in the middle of the night looking for hot water is very fun, but eventually I find some. So I eat and have now killed all of an hour, lets find the internet bar. In the basement is a coffee bar/ internet cafe/ pool room, sweet! Here I kill a few hours then head back up to my room, shower, and back downstairs to check into the dorm/hostel part of the establishment. For 45 kuai a night I get a bed, community shower and kitchen, as well as 3 roommates, who I wake up at 7 am as I am ... read more

Wow Beijing, some wonderful sites to see in the capital of such an ancient land. Though a communist country, you see little evidence of this except for a few more soliders around (most looking like they just left school), and me unable to open the BBC website on the internet due to it being "Sensored"! Top sites included Great wall of China/Forbidden City/Tiananmen Square/Temple of Heaven and The Summer Palace. Big shout to my old Uni housemate Ralph who put me up in his Penthouse apartment whilst I was seeing the sites (mailnly with him anyway). As Beijing is gearing up for the Olympic games in 2008, I guess this was an ideal time to see Beijing as they were cleaning it all up and trying to do something about the polution (it makes London seem ... read more

Ogolnie taki dzien stracony. Moj 'Asia' team poszedl gdzies indiziej wczesniej i mimo wyraznej mojej prosby zapomnial mnie poinformowac, gdzie ida z Lisa, a poszli na bilard. Pech to pech. Probowalem stosowac tradycyjne chinskie techniki, ale z rezultatem mocno srednim:)... read more
