My morning got as exciting as walking down to the beach to take a few pictures while waiting for the bus to Kampot. It felt good to be moving onto the next town, until the minibus arrived! It was the same old/clunky model minibus that Kate and I had caught on our travels from Kratie to Siem reap a wk ago. However the saving grace today was the better driver, who had no problem with sweating tourists wanting to open the window ( because the age of the bus the air conditioning is rubbish!) so, i was on my way. Made it to Kampot within a few hours and got the usual helpful tuk tuk driver to the hotel. Heading out to get my bearings i stopped off at Rusty Keyhole - yes, really!!! And living ... read more

The hill outside Kampot was unremarkable. The man at my guesthouse told me local people went there to send out their wishes, but tourists didn’t bother visiting. It was just a rather ordinary place. But that was what I wanted during my final few days in Cambodia. Mostly, I wanted a place with no other tourists. The motor scooter sputtered up the rough asphalt path, past a few houses where people and dogs lounged about. After a short climb we stopped in an area that appeared to be under construction. Piles of wood, metal, gravel, and dirt were strewn about. A low building with a shiny floor housed a temple. Nearby, odd concrete pillars jutted into the sky. The strangest structure was a pile of metal, geometric interlocking pieces that laid atop one another, layer cake ... read more

After three weeks of luxury with the mother of Helene, we go back to our backpackers live! We met during our ride to Kampot an Italian guy Andrea with who we finally shared a room for eight dollar the night. A cheap room, but our luxury was clearly over with back pain the next morning from the thin matrasses and a bit stinky from the constant water disrupions which unabled us to shower. Kampot is a calm and cute village laying by the river and it is famous for its delicious pepper. During our two days stay, we enjoyed walking through the city and going to a local market. We also visited the cave temple 'Phnom Chhnork', a seven century old temple that is special because it is one of the oldest in Cambodia and is ... read more

Hi Everyone, Last day of the year!! We had a very chilled day. We went to Elli’s café for breakfast, which was a recommended café in the Kampot area. We had freshly squeezed fruit shakes (ginger and mango for Neil and I had orange juice), then I had eggs benedict and Neil had scrambled eggs. We didn’t do much in the day, read our books mostly. In the evening we popped out for dinner, Neil had his favourite dumplings and noodles. We came back to the room to drink rum and coke and listen to music. Because we like different music we had our headphones on whilst getting ready and looking on the internet. A whatsapp came through from Neil saying ‘Will you marry me’ I automatically replied no, thinking he was messing around, so I ... read more

Hi Followers, This morning was amazing waking up in an A/C room in a big comfortable bed at long last!!!! Vick was still feeling awful with serious stomach cramps and other unmentionable things.... So we decided to have a nice relaxed day!! We had breakfast in the Epics art cafe, which is a place run by the mentally and physically handicapped. The food was amazing and service was good, lucky I didn't order soup as they all limped a lot!! I found a common chat with a few disabled people, typical men...football!!! It had a nice atmosphere and was so busy, our highlight was the lime and mint ice shakes...amazing!!! We went for a walk around the local area and found a few markets. (All selling crap really but still nice to walk around) Kampot is ... read more

Hello Followers and blog readers and friends, So today is the move from Sihanoukville to Kampot, we have been dreaming about this for the last few days now!!! Vick is still bad with stomach bug and I still have a little flu but both much better for this journey, its only a 2 hour drive but is in a small mini bus with everyone crammed in, on the worst roads around (well not seen these Vietnamese roads yet). We checked out of the 'Everythang hostel' and felt miffed having to pay our high bill as it was a shit hole!!! We read a few of the reviews over the last week there on trip advisor and it was bad, people with ants in there rice, slugs in there salad, food poisoning (Vicky and others) plus people ... read more

Patience and lateness are not two virtues that I was blessed with. I have tried my hardest to learn them, but they seem to ever evade me. Cambodia has taught me that Asia time is alive and real, and that I just have to deal with it. If a bus is only 45 minutes late, we are doing really well. I’ve learned to automatically add three hours to any quoted journey length. Meals? Don’t expect to get them within an hour of ordering them. In particular, don’t expect to get your meals any time near when the people you are eating with get theirs. Asia time is alive and real in Cambodia. I left Sihnoukville to head to the small beach town of Kampot. I had heard lovely things about Kampot from a girl I met ... read more

Hello readers So, what we do about leaving the island, well sit back relax and I shall tell you :-) We had a look at the sea conditions and they looked calmer than when we arrived and the weather looked quite promising, so after some discussion Nd debate we decided to catch the 9am boat back to the mainland along with a few other people who were also, leaving at the same time and had experienced similar sea conditions to us when they arrived., This time Karo and I had bought plastic macs and I used mine to cover my big back pack, I had also found my rain mack but ended up using to cover my bag and day pack, as of course we got hit with waves over the bough again lol. The boat was ... read more

Coucou. ... Je demande ... read more
