I think that I needed this trip, after the academic tumult and emotional histrionics that has characterized this last school year. The change to this rural setting has been surprisingly easy, full of sunshine, languor and rest. My brain is revelling in the lack of hyperkinetic memorization, wallowing contentedly from each full night of sleep like an elephant who’s just found a mud patch. The slower pace has also allowed me to rediscover the red, orange and yellow end of the colour spectrum as I relearned how to drive a 100 cc scooter. Culture and perception is a funny thing. 6:10, Boem, boem, boem….Wijnand en ik schrikken wakker, er wordt hard op de deur geklopt, ja, ja we komen al rustig maar, eens kijken hoe laat of het dan is, oeps we zouden om 6:00u vertrekken. Het bier van gisteravond heeft er samen met mijn lege telefoon voor gezorgd dat we ons een klein beetje hebben verslapen. Snel proppen we onze spullen in onze tassen en stappen in de bus, ik heb wel een wat zweverig gevoel in mijn hoofd van al die alcohol. We gaan op weg naar Kampot, waar we om 7:47u aankomen, nog niet alle kamers zijn vrij in het hotel, dus we gooien onze spullen gezamenlijk op één kamer, ik heb nog niet voldoende helderheid, om na te gaan denken wat er in mijn dagrugzak zit en wat niet, ik neem dus ... read more
