Geo: -12.895, 31.9228Up and ready to start packing up and Morphy was already at Mabuya. He had business in town and was staying there so we stepped up our efforts. Pretty much had everything out of the tent and then it started raining but was a very brief rain!Got everything loaded up and in the car and went to settle our bill with Mabuya and the internet was down. Tom told us to settle up when we returned after Wildlife Camp.Set off around 9:00a.m. and Bizwik was our driver again. Nice, polite and a careful driver. We got stopped in three road blocks along the way and he had to pay at two of the stops. Evidently police corruption is on the upswing according to both Bizwik and John our second driver. The last time Bizwik ... read more

Heading into Botswana seemed very different with the vegetation turning greener and with cattle being allowed to freely roam. At times cows had right of way over vehicles and some of their roads, such as elephant highway, meant you would come across these beasts walking across the road in front of you. We flew over the Okavango Delta to see the size of the delta and the expanse of land it was. The delta is approx. 15000km2 and boasts elephants, giraffes, zebras and lions to name a few. The flight was in a 6 seater plane which didn’t go above 5000ft which didn’t help with the turbulence. Although great views you need a stomach of steel to do it or at least lots of travel pills. It was good at least to see the expanse of ... read more

23 December 2015 We left Malawi (The Warm Heart of Africa) yesterday to enter Zambia ( The Real Africa). Our fellow Canadian, New Zealand and Australian travellers were once again annoyed that the Irish got away without splashing out $50 for a visa. We on the other had were very smug, not only did we save money the visa stickers would have wasted a whole page on our passport which has an ever increasing number of stamps. We have spent two nights at Croc Valley campsite which had a massive orange river right beside it. We were surprised by how much noise the many hippos that lived there made all day and especially all night. It was quite an experience. I was a little apprehensive when Chris told us it wasn't unusual for hippos to graze ... read more

Day 5 started dark and early as we had 720 kilometers to drive. That’s really only 7 hours, but the driver took his time and with a quick stop for lunch we arrived at the South Luangwe National Park to see a family of elephants enjoying some grass quite close to our tents! That’s all from day 5. There was internet available, but both my phone and computer couldn’t find the network. Blurg. Day 6 we got up for a game drive and didn’t immediately have to take down our tents. Im used to the routine by now. Get up, brush teeth and pee, pack bag, take down tent, eat brekky, and jump in the truck for a ride to a town for grocery shopping that most people don’t need to do. But today we got ... read more

Day 4 was a silly day as we just drove the 6 hours to Lusaka. This diver is fairly slow and it took us longer than usual, but we still had to get up at 5am and leave by 6. I tried to ask if we could sleep in as I had done this drive before and knew it was close and easy. Got quite a lot of backlash from out tour leader and realized im on a Nazi tour of Africa…We also went shopping, again, despite having gone twice the day before. So a Nazi shopping tour it is. I was the only one who went into town form the camp area to purchase a bottle opener that I got before and lost. It is like the one I picked up in Burma. That one ... read more

When I came back to the hostel there was a mirror pitching a tent and I got confused. Just as tall, if not taller, a guy named Magnus has had his dreadlocks for 14 years. He is from Germany just traveling through Africa like me! We joined forces and conquered all things Livingstone had to offer for some days. We had plans to visit some gorge where there was a Trance party going on for a few days but it rained and we waited til it was dry to move. It really sucks to be in a tent and have to pack up when its wet. It sucks so much I sacrificed a day to get it right. Aaaaand luck be had I was enquiring about a bus to the capital when a South African lady ... read more

Bright and way too early for the kind of night I had I caught the free shuttle to Victoria Falls to take in all the glory that makes it one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. Unfortunately the dry season has been particularly dry and there was literally no water falling off the rocks on the Zambian side…Cheese and rice things are hard…I walked all around the park to different viewpoints to try and see some kind of spectacle but to no avail. Luckily I paid too much money to walk out to Livingstone Island where there is a chance to play in the water and get an actual view of the falls first hand. Livingston Island was where Dr. Livingstone “discovered” the waterfall and named it after some queen or something. Idk. But ... read more

Zambia Lusaka I spent one night at Lusaka, but didn't see anything of it; the airport is 27 kms from the city, and I arrived at 3pm and had to be back at the airport the following morning at 9.30am, so I stayed in a lodge fairly close by. For the same price of a chalet or A-frame at Mabuya I got a room with ensuite (and though I couldn't make the shower hot, I worked the radio and some of the side jet sprays, and it was just lovely to not be on concrete, and to able to wash and dry my feet, and walk to bed without them getting dirty again), a bath mat, a full length mirror, TV, air conditioning and WiFi. Not that I could work the technology, I had to get ... read more

Last few days Saturday Saturday morning a team of NGO workers (non- Governmental organisations) are playing football against M’teza and Shelby and I go to watch. M'teza are 2-0 down, but our advent brings them luck as they have equalised by the time we leave for art club, and eventually beat the away team. Art club is very successful. We start off with 7, get three more before too long, and then get another six. We’ve done a sample picture of ’Take your pencil for a walk’ and a collage. They mostly do the former, but then turn the paper over and start sticking pictures. They are all loth to start and Shelby and i start them off. One lad wants a ruler and draws out a house with precision, before colouring it in in blocks ... read more
