Bright and way too early for the kind of night I had I caught the free shuttle to Victoria Falls to take in all the glory that makes it one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. Unfortunately the dry season has been particularly dry and there was literally no water falling off the rocks on the Zambian side…Cheese and rice things are hard…I walked all around the park to different viewpoints to try and see some kind of spectacle but to no avail. Luckily I paid too much money to walk out to Livingstone Island where there is a chance to play in the water and get an actual view of the falls first hand. Livingston Island was where Dr. Livingstone “discovered” the waterfall and named it after some queen or something. Idk. But I think its funny as English speakers the greatest description of the awe that can be a million liters of water cascading down a giant change in landscape per second is summed up as the word waterfall. Mosi oa tunya is what the local people call vic falls. Smoke that thunders. Now that describes a little more poetically even the feeling you get looking at this feat that has joined the ranks of a top 7 list of awesome natural things on this planet. Waterfall. Me caveman…look…water…fall. Water, fall. WATERFALL! :/ Anyways, the island wasn’t an island and we walked out on what used to be a river to where part still flowed over the edge. A short swim and more rock traversing we came upon a 4 meter deep hole with an edge on it big enough to rest a torso. What’s going on here you wonder? Well. The guide would hold our ankles and we would dangle on the edge of Victoria Falls to peer over and experience a waterfall as if we were the water falling! WOW!!! So cool! In the morning mist we could see a double rainbow too! Very cool. One “extreme” thing I didn’t even know existed, but now I wanna get to the edge of every waterfall I find and become the waterfall. So cool. Afterwards I had too many offers of handicrafts to turn down so I purchased a bracelet, an ebony statue, and a flag patch cut out of a soccer jersey. Lololol twas a good day J
