Hello! We flew to Darwin from Sydney last night, after a tour through the Australian War Memorial Museum. I think many of us were not aware that Australia was involved in many wars, and the museum helped give us some history. Some students also were able to speak to some war veterans and watch a wreath laying ceramony at the end of our tour. We were happy to leave the cold weather and fly to Darwin. It was a late night for us as we didn't get in until midnight. This morning we headed out to the Northern Territory museum where we were able to see many of Australia's wildlife in taxidermy form (much preffered after looking at some of them) and then headed to Crocodylus Park where we were able to hold a baby crocodile ... read more

Well the adventure may be over but it lives on in pictures and in many memories that I shall never forget! Spent my last few hours in LA with Shannon where we had a few funny moments (as only we can) that I think are worthy to be blogged. First off LA traffic is notorious on a good day for being more like a parking lot so the drive from Irvine county was a little slow.....but we were in the Prius so given we had GPS we thought...we will get there with time to spare. Well the traffic was the least of our worries as the GPS took us on a bit of a tour.....which found us in COMPTON. You know things are bad when you see "stoner alley" plastered on the public park wall and ... read more

I haven't much time at the moment, but I thought I would update briefly while I am on the Macquarie Uni campus with free wi-fi. Last Friday I went to Taronga Zoo with the others from my program, which was incredibly fortunate, as that means it was free. Taronga zoo appears to be an island and the general populous can only access its wild wonders by ferry. As the 20 minute ride came to an end and our boat reached the island, a wave of deja vu overtook me...I was in Jurassic Park... Obviously I've never been to Jurassic Park, as far as I know you can't climb into movies. But our entire group was overtaken with the general sort of feelings you get when approaching a jungle island full of creatures who are dying to ... read more

We left Mt. Isa feeling rather disappointed. I guess the fantasy of a big outback mining town had not lived up to the reality. The romance was overwhelmed by the smells and the noise. Still, the people were friendly and the children's mass we attended on the Saturday evening left us feeling spiritually refreshed. Most towns only have mass once a month and this is the first time we have been in the right place at the right time. We headed back towards Cloncurry to rejoin the road North, planning to catch up with the attractions we had missed on the way through last time. Sadly, we had forgotten that it was Sunday and the Outback was closed for the day! I'll bore you with some information anyway. Cloncurry (Pop. 4500) was established in 1867 and ... read more

Hello All I haven't written about the Whistsundays yet (it wil come soon) as I really want to concentrate and put all the names down etc but at the moment I'm too excited to concentrate to that extent!! So, what have I been up to since I did the Whitsundays? Well, I got back from there on the Wednesday at about 5pm, and after checking back into the YHA hostel and having a shower (you weren't able to have a shower on the boa!!), I met the rest of the people from my boat in the Beaches hostel bar for a drink. We were meant to get a free pitcher of beer for every third person that joined our table, but I don’t think it really worked! It was nice though to sit and have a ... read more

We left Sydney two days after New Years Eve, what a night, the temperature was a warm 40 degrees and we were sweltering , we had been staying for the night with a friendly Sydneyite, so we said our farewells , called into our favourite Indian at Manly for our last Vindaloo and left, we got to the Blue Mountains easily after climbing a gradual but steep road for an hour. We were so thrilled to see these iconic Australian formations, We stayed at the viewing platform so as to get all the changing colours as the sun set, we were glad we did. 161 photos later we retired to bed glad for the 28 degree summers night breeze. WHAT......I awoke first with the horrid feel of COLD on my skin, I jumped out of bed ... read more

Day 25 Katherine Gorge to Edith Falls 24/07/06 Once again, due to the noisy bats, we awoke reasonably early. We packed up after breakfast and headed back into Katherine for a top up of supplies and fuel. At about 10.15am, again we headed North on the Stuart Highway, this time for Edith Falls. As it was only a short drive we arrived at about 11.00am. This place is incredible, a hidden oasis. There is green grass and shaded camp spots everywhere. Once we had chosen our preferred camp spots, we set up and walked back down to the kiosk to find out what this place had to offer. From here we decided to head to the swimming hole and it was great. All of us went in for a swim, eventually, as initially it was pretty ... read more

Well well well we are in beautiful noosa right now and just love it. The only down part is that hostels are very expensive so we went out apartment shopping. we found an apartment that we could rent by the week so we took it. Its nothing special though. (we only get 4 channels on our rustic TV) The sofas are nice and colourful which is a plus. The best part is we no longer have to wait 20 or more minutes for a pot to cook some macaroni. Our Apartment is not very close to the main part of the town or the beach so we decided to rent a Tandem (2 person) bike for the week. they are extremely hard to ride we already hit a tree ( it was my fault) Only the ... read more

Thur 27. Sunny perfect Port. Fri 28. Punny terfect sort. Terfect. n. terrific effect. Could we rule from here? Need high profile connexion. Terfectic reflection. Sat 29. Walked Four Mile Beach. Watched Port Douglass Crocs (Aussie Rules) defeat visitor. A huge guy came up to me straight faced and said 'Remember me?' He could have crushed me. He said 'I got a sticker from you in Cooktown. How's it going?' It serves to illustrate the vagaries of my enterprise. For I have been threatened numerous times and it has become a part of the whole. I never know who people are when they approach. Sun 30. Spruiked Sunday market crowd. Fantastic. Later large bats like black fruit hanging in tree. July 30th got off to quite the interesting start for me...I had arranged to meet Dob outside our apartment building at 7:30 sharp so we could catch the local train into Hiroshima station, and have time for one last breakfast at our beloved Doutour Coffee (you would have to drink it to understand, I guess...). I was awakened at 7:30 by Dob ringing my bell! After a frantic rush to scoop up last minute things, we caught a taxi to the station, and still had time for a quick breakfast, before I was dramatically swept away at the speed of light on the shinkansen (bullet train) to Fukuoka, from where my plane would depart...Dob was my angel that morning! Before returning home to Canada, I decided to make a pit stop in Australia, and planned a ... read more
