internet is rare in this land so will be brief As usual, the hungarian has pushed his luck to the limit...partying all night thursday in st tropez got to the train station 20 minutes before he thought it left, but when he was starting to relax the controller whistles for it to leave!!! running like a mad man he manages to jump on the tracks therefore insuring his departure... after an epic flight, with stops in such shaggy places as dubai and bangkok, we managed to arrive safely at world famous Bondi beach. Clement needing to feed his hunger for new vibes brought us to the 505. A jazz joint where you must fight a jungle in the heart of Sydney before having the chance to experience its uniqueness.........only on Mondays. While we were having ... read more

Ok, so I got to the hotel in Rainbow Beach called Pippies. There were these two mad Dutch girls at the bus stop who worked for Pippies and they showed me the 50 metre straight walk to the hostel. In the front part as soon as you walk in there’s a little lawn with some hammocks and a couple of people were milling around enjoying the sunshine. Everyone was so friendly and within no time one of the Dutch girls was cutting my hair for $5.00 and I was totally immersed in chat and giggles. Then, just as I thought the day couldn’t possibly get any better, six half naked, well built, brown Brummie lads walked in, returning from Fraser Island, and suddenly the day was complete! Aah! Feeling completely content and with all traces of ... read more

Twas very sad to be leaving although glad about the next adventures of travelling and returning home to see friends and family. These are just a few select pics of my last week in sydney. To tell the truth, I was ill for half of it so didn't get done half the things that I wanted to but it was good to catch up with my sydney based friends before leaving OZ. Also great to be settled for a while after being on the road for a while. Also thanks to Jenny and Chris for letting me stay for free! Was great to meet up with Nanthini a friend from home whilst she was in Sydney for an OT Conference. I was feeling really ill for my leaving drinks but I made it out, thanks to ... read more

We arrived in Darwin in the late afternoon and pulled up at the YHA. Mikey wanted to stay here because the ashes tickets he had purchased were being sent here. As we walked into reception to check in it was quite obvious that they were having a big refurb. We checked in and found the facilities quite basic - the kitchen was hideously small and cockroaches were all over the place. I was in a bunk above a bloke from London, Liam. Unfortunately he was a Gooner like alot of the people I had met on my way up here. Alot was going through my head when we first arrived in Darwin and i felt obliged to come home as the credit card had been severely dipped into. I even went to the extent of phoning ... read more

We also hired a car for a day and drove out to the Cahunu Koala Park and Nature Reserve. As well as seeing all the native Australian wildlife, Debra also got to satisfy a lifelong dream and hold on to a koala. As it was winter, it was very quiet there, so we got almost half an hour with the koala and Debra was very reluctant to let it go in the end. We all loved also loved feeding the kangaroos as well as seeing a baby wallaby, dingoes, emus and others. I'd already been there and done that (see ). After that we went to the Aquarium of Western Australia. Lots to see there, although the seals were conspicuous by their absence. The best bit was the shark tunnel. This was a glass, underwater tunnel ... read more

I checked into the Base Backpackers on Kent St, just up from Darling Harbour, I would highly recommend it. There were two guys sleeping in the room so I just locked up my bag, grabbed my Sydney guide and off I went. Darling Harbour was a fav. so I sat there for a bit supping on a Boost Juice and planning my day. The weather was great….sunnys required! Like any good tourist I headed straight for the Opera House. From the Circular Quays you get a good look at the Harbour Bridge as well. I wandered round taking lots of pics…because I was on my own (sad I know) you will find that all my pics void of me! I did get one snap of me taken by a family from Newcastle, you hear a million ... read more

Back to Mareeba Four weeks ago we had left Mareeba packed and ready for our Northern Territorry expedition. As we returned back in to Mareeba the clock ticked to 9000kms!!!! ..easily the longest single road trip we'll ever do. We were tired and couldn't wait for a hot shower, a real bed, and oven cooked food! A few days before our return we phoned Cheryl to check if all was ok to stay again, (which it was), it was at this time when we heard the sad news that my Great Auntie Joyce had passed away - so we new that things may be pretty hectic amongst the Powels with all the necessary 'post-death' events, jobs, etc.. We stayed with Cheryl for a night, then went to Wonga beach to stay with Uncle Gordon, where we ... read more

So we have been on the road for a few weeks now and been to quite a lot of places and started to get used to living in a van. First off, we left Brisbane and headed south to Byron Bay for a couple of days. John was getting his Skydiving Gear sent over from the UK so we had to return to Brisbane anyway. Byron Bay was great. The beach was really beautiful and it had a nice "small town" kind of feel to it. Didn't find a great deal to do as we were still making changes to the van for comfort purposes. Did make it to the beach to top up the tan though. Our first night in the van was an experience, we certainly hadn't planned for such cold temperatures and soon ... read more

Hello! We flew to Darwin from Sydney last night, after a tour through the Australian War Memorial Museum. I think many of us were not aware that Australia was involved in many wars, and the museum helped give us some history. Some students also were able to speak to some war veterans and watch a wreath laying ceramony at the end of our tour. We were happy to leave the cold weather and fly to Darwin. It was a late night for us as we didn't get in until midnight. This morning we headed out to the Northern Territory museum where we were able to see many of Australia's wildlife in taxidermy form (much preffered after looking at some of them) and then headed to Crocodylus Park where we were able to hold a baby crocodile ... read more
