Our little Baby
Isn't she beautiful?! So we have been on the road for a few weeks now and been to quite a lot of places and started to get used to living in a van.
First off, we left Brisbane and headed south to Byron Bay for a couple of days. John was getting his Skydiving Gear sent over from the UK so we had to return to Brisbane anyway. Byron Bay was great. The beach was really beautiful and it had a nice "small town" kind of feel to it. Didn't find a great deal to do as we were still making changes to the van for comfort purposes. Did make it to the beach to top up the tan though.
Our first night in the van was an experience, we certainly hadn't planned for such cold temperatures and soon had to dig out the thermals, zip the sleeping bags together and cuddle up for warmth, but hey - I'm not complaining. Our first breakfast was then eggy bread (french toast for those posh readers) which brought memories of scout and guide camps come flooding back, although I (j) think that all H needed to make the memories complete was a bit of
How much stuff???
Nothing like being compact.. bubblie!!
All in all our first experiences of the van have been great and are certainly going to be very comfortable on our travels.
Byron Bay was pretty amazing, hug beach which even made me (j) go for a run one morning, shocking I know!
After Byron Bay we headed back to get John's rig but it didn't arrive (thanks to Sidney customs) so we headed back towards Surfer's Paradise. We drove through and the skyscrapers put us off staying longer than 5 minutes so we headed off in search of something quieter.
Another couple of days on a gorgeous beach and we were able to get John's skydiving rig and head to the DZ. Yahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! (j) Ohh, oh, I splashed out and purchased in a new free fly suit, sweeeeeet!! (thats a good thing, very good (j))
Unfortunately John got the location of the DZ wrong so we ended up having a bit of a tour of Queensland - I can see how he got Toowoomba mixed up with Toogooloowah?!?! Anyway with his rig sorted and paper work complete we headed for the sunshine coast. We stayed a couple of nights in Caloundra which
Foooood
First meal (and possibly drink by the look on Hannah's face!) was a lovely little town with another gorgeous beach. After that we headed to Noosa. Noosa again had a lovely beach but was pretty expensive with us staying in the most expensive caravan park we have so far that hasn't been on the beach!! We only stayed the one night. Long enough to plan the next bit of the trip and then we headed back to the DZ so John could spend a few days Skydiving (see seperate blog entry). Ohh, oh me skydiving, read on and see pits of my new jump suit!!
After the weekend skydiving we had planned to spend a couple of days camped by a vineyard - but it was of course closed Mondays - Wednesdays so we decided to move on. We headed to a place called Tin Can Bay - as always having no idea what the place would be like. When we got there we discovered that if we got up nice and early we could go and feed wild dolphins in the bay. We went down to have a look and it was pretty cool seeing the wild dolphin (There was only the one!!) so close but we opted not
Arguments over driving
Neither could be worse than John!!! to bother feeding it as you had to paddle in the water and it was freezing!! Hannah being a big girls blouse, although I didnt cos it's not a manly thing to do!
After a couple of days in Tin Can Bay with absolutely nothing to do - not even a decent beach to talk of we headed round the bay to Rainbow Beach. This time luck was on our side and we discovered an excellent caravan park where we could even have real fires. We had a lovely time, with a fire everynight and our evening meal cooked over the fire, a few vodkas and nothing could top the feeling. Because we were away from a lot of the light pollution you get in the cities, the starts were amazing. The sky was full and you could get lost looking at the starts. After a while you even get used to the bats (that are the size of small dogs over here) and sitting listening to the bizarre giigling sound they make.
While in Rainbow beach we have booked a 3 day tour of Fraser Island and a sailing trip around the Whitsundays. Fraser Island will be
Byron Bay
The beaches are a bit on the small side here!!! 2nd-4th August. Whitsunday's sailing will be whenever we make it to Airlie beach!!!
