The journey to Darwin was only 3.5 hours and on stepping out of the coach I could tell it was too warm and muggy for my liking. Darwin is the capital of Northern Territory, which was clear from the number of bars, restaurants and hostels nearby, the like of which I hadn't seen since Perth, though it's population is only about 100,000. I'd had a lot of trouble finding somewhere to stay in Darwin, and from Kununurra had phoned round every hostel in my guidebook before I finally found accommodation for my entire stay. One problem was that I'd originally only intended staying a day or 2 before heading out to a couple of the national parks, however various e-mails I'd received had indicated that a lot of people from earlier in my trip would be ... read more

This is Perth. You can see the shadow of Perth this city in which I live since November. Yeah 8 months pass I can’t believe it. 8 months I’m here. 8 months I learn everyday, 8 months of Happiness . Of course during this time I thought about my friend in my home town, I thought about my family. I thought about my country. But I love be in Perth ,I love be in Australia I love spend time with aussie and other English speaker or other languages of course…;-) for me now it’s like if I’m in Switzerland I have my friend, I have a routine ,etc it s really hard to explain. Only the people who travel or had had the same feeling can understand .Now in 3 days I’m going to be back ... read more

WORK Today was our first day of work, and I was admittedly pretty stoked. We began on the hilly coast to the east of our caravans at like 8:00 am. It was very, very, cold, so I bundled up for warmth. Our job today was to weed out all of the non-native plants to make room for planting actual native grasses. Marcus pointed out a few to look for, so we began going through the brush to find and eradicate the weeds. Some of them were huge plants; I'm talking like actual trees. It seemed like a shame to cut down such large plants, but hey, if that's what they want me to do, that's what they want me to do. Everybody worked in pairs; the first person walked around with a small saw to cut ... read more

Ui jui jui, so ... read more

As I left Geraldton the clouds closed in for the first time in months. Then the heavens opened and it started to rain. Listening to the radio on the way down you would have thought it was Christmas. Farmers and the like were literally dancing in the streets as this was the first rain they had seen for years. Probably wasn’t appropriate for me to ask when it was likely to stop!! When it does finally rain in WA it really knows how to. Coming from the UK I’m used to driving in rain but this was something else. The roads aren’t designed to channel the water away and it’s all you can do to hold onto the car as you aquaplane down the road with visibility not much greater than the end of the bonnet. ... read more

Firstly, thanks to everyone for their great comments and good wishes. Its really good to hear from you all. We will get around to individual emails at some point, but the mobile broadband plan that we chose is fairly restrictive on time (we are on a budget now that we are unemployed) and so by the time we load the travelblogs, there is not much left over every month. We left Ayers Rock campground at 8.50am on 5/7 (seems the ‘hares’ are rubbing off on us!) for the 293km drive to Kings Canyon. Oh, forgot to tell you in the last blog that at Ayers Rock we had a disaster…….Wes ran out of beer!!!!! He went to buy some at the resort bottle shop, but after the guy at the bar put the 6 pack of ... read more

it's been just a matter of days since the last blog though so much has happened, it's all quite exhausting - i somehow remember typing something to that effect previously though this whole travel buzz warrants a holiday and i suppose that is what i'm purposefully gonna do over the next week or so in sydney. Leaving Koh Samui was quite something, i think i have stumbled upon quite possibly the smallest international airport standing. Beauvais is Heathrow compared to it (Is beauvais still vertical with all those tremors??) THe flight to Singapore was as flights should be (without incident) and singapore itself is immediately inviting. The overwhelmingly sense you get when you walk down the street is one of such warmth and safety. The transportation infrastructure is paramount, the metro is practically door to door, ... read more
