Well.....what can I say? Where does time go? A lot has happened this year. Verity is 1 in only a month and George is growing into a little boy with an Aussie accent( It does make us chuckle, getting him to say 'G'day mate' and 'Alright Cobber' and 'No worries mate'.........poor boy!...could be deemed a form of abuse/racism maybe!?) We have just applied for Citizenship so that we can all have an Aussie passport, not just Verity who is the only official Aussie in the house at present (well Brit/Aussie.......we remain British too!!!) It will be good to be able to vote in the next election as it was a bit frustrating seeing what was happening this time but not being able to vote at all. I went back to work at the beginning of this ... read more

Ok................my blog entries are getting more and more spaced out. Life with two small children is crazy................though immensely rewarding. George is now in the terrible twos and starting to talk lots. Verity has piled on weight and is 4 months. Where time goes, I have no idea. We have now been in our house for 10 months. It is a truly amazing house and we have some really great friends but our recent trip back to the UK has made us quite sad. We were quite happy out here before children but to see our children with their relatives back in the UK over Christmas has made us think............is it really worth it to be out here?? We both love our family to bits and it makes it very hard to deny our children their grandparents, ... read more

I have realised that time has been passing me by so quickly and I have not managed to get that many blog entries out. I am now 35 weeks pregnant so not long to go before the little girl is born. I do hope it is a girl, in that I have not been able to resist buying lots of pink clothes which will all have to go on ebay if this turns out to be a boy !! I have two weeks left at work - I only do the three days a week so it's not so bad. The worst thing is that I can't sleep. I seem to wake at 3am every night for a few hours............ah well. My sister and family came out a few weeks ago to stay for 5 weeks ... read more

How busy can life get? I have not written an entry for a while as I have been somewhat busy. We have bought a new house in Taroona which has taken a fair bit of time.......moving, new furniture and the like. We are really pleased with the place. Having lived in what amounts to a cardboard box for the last 18 months, we are now rattling around in what feels like a mansion. We are in a very fortunate position. We live really near town but it feels like we are in the bush. Our drive is very very long and we have a secluded little spot in a cul-de-sac. The views we have from the house are amazing and we actually own the land almost as far as we can see (it's bush !) we ... read more

Well what a few months it has been. Since my last blog we have been back to the UK where we had a really amazing time catching-up with family and friends. It has been a very special time to see George with his cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I did think that, though we might not see them very often, when we do it is a quality length of time. Whilst there, I went to New York with my mum whilst George and Ivor stayed with his parents. We all also went to the Lake District and we had George Christened. Of course, it was also Christmas and New Year too, so we were able to join our families with the festivities relating to those events too. We had been dreading the 30 hour plane journey ... read more

Well.........we are getting closer to another end of year and I can't believe that George is over 9 months of age. He is really developing a personality and is generally laid-back , but seems to have a firey temper about things.........which is a bit of a reflection of the pair of us ! It's obviously also him developing and ascertaining his independence......etc He is still sleeping fairly well which is a big bonus. We are getting ready for a trip back to the UK and are also looking forward to a bit of time off ! I am looking after George's friend 'Alex' tomorrow - with George. I am really looking forward to it, but it could be interesting........a bit of a flavour of what twins must be like,I reckon ! Last weekend, we went for ... read more

The September hols have Binangone.............during which time we went to visit 'Binalong Bay' and the 'Bay of Fires'up on the East Coast. The hols began with my 36th birthday. I am starting to feel very old. This was a strange experience as throughout my life, my birthday has always been at the start of a school year. How nice it was to have it at the start of a holiday. I know I have only worked three days a week but with caring for George, it is blinking hard work. We had a great day. The weather was warm and sunny and we went out for the day..............just knocking around Hobart and seeing friends. We then spent a week at home, resting and doing jobs before heading off to Binalong Bay. Ivor had hoped to take ... read more

Well..it’s never happened before, but I guess it was going to happen sooner or later...Yesterday, I did the running section of the ‘Winter Challenge’ at Franklin, 30 mins south of Hobart. I was asked several months ago if I would take part in that section and, at the time, thought it would be a good thing to motivate myself to get back into running post-birth. Anyway, the running has not really happened (as the time frame to run is evenings after school which are dark and cold......and I have to wait for Ivor to get back to look after George before I can go out running. “Take him with you” I hear you cry, but it is actually quite hard when there are the occasional pavements to contend with.) and as a consequence, I was no ... read more

Only 3 weeks left and Spring begins !! It never fails to amaze me how mild the Winter is here. No gritting of roads, no salt on the windscreen, no de-icer, no freezing dark Winter mornings...........................though I will always miss Gas Central Heating. It might not be as cold here, but it does get cold. The houses are very badly insulated (no double-glazing) the hot water tanks are outside (can you believe it?!) and heating is restricted to plug-in radiators and electric fan heaters. Getting up in a warm environment is now a distant memory. Coming home to a warm house.................a distant memory !!! At least it is a lot warmer in our present house than it was in the log cabin on the mountain in Fern Tree where we lived before!!! Ah well - one ... read more

Well..............George is almost 6 months old. Where on earth did that time go? He is a hefty 9.5 kilos/22 pounds ish and is becoming more entertaining by the day. It is only 5 months until we go back to the UK for a visit...........I can't wait for him to meet all his cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc (though obviously my mum has already seen him and she misses him lots!)My sister (all being well) is having another baby in November (another boy- 5th grandson for mum - no grand daughters) so that will be very exciting to see him too. I am also looking forward to Christmas in the cold. It really doesn't seem like Christmas when it is hot and light..................though not so keen on the UK Winter as a whole. Fortunately the weather here is still ... read more
