Ok.you're probably wondering why I have included pictures of us in Christmas hats and yet more cheesy photos!! We decided that as Ivor and I will not be in the UK for Christmas that we should have a celebration of our own- 3 weeks early. Janet and I went shopping and bought some presents, wrapping paper and decorations (from a very cheap shop called Chicken Feed - think of the old style "50p" shops and you have an idea of what it's like!!) We also bought the whole works for Christmas Dinner - including some sherry which, it would seem, is [View Full Entry]

The Rellys are here!!!! Oceania » Australia » Tasmania » Hobart
At long last I have met my little nephew!!! I met them at the airport - lunchtime. A very bedraggled "Janet and John" (always have to have a giggle at that !!!!) turned up in the arrivals lounge with a very alert Josh - bright eyed and bushy tailed. I drove them all to our little house in the mountains and they did manage to last a few hours before tiredness overcame them and they piled off to bed. They had had a good journey and Josh had slept - but it is long enough to kill off the most travel-keen [View Full Entry]

What a great few weeks. A couple of weekends ago, Marcus and Sharon came over again and stayed with us for the weekened (Sharon is looking very pregnant!!) They arrived Friday tea-time, having driven down from Northern Tassie in a rental car. Friday night we went round to a colleague's of Ivor's and ex-colleague of Marcus'. Jen and Andrew also came with Anabelle and Sebastian. We had a curry and chatted lots before driving home for the evening. The next day we went to Port Arthur where there was a convict colony- it's a really fascinating historical place which was sadly, also [View Full Entry]

Samoan holiday Oceania » Samoa
The September Hols!!!!! At last ! After what seemed an eternity - the holidays finally arrived. Ivor and I lazed around a bit on the Saturday and then packed up and set off for Samoa on the Sunday morning. Who says that time travel is not possible?? We set off from Hobart at 9am on Sunday morning and arrived in Apia, Samoa at 1,30am Sunday morning - what on earth?? Turns out that you cross the International dateline when going to Samoa, so although it is only 5 hours away from Sydney, it is 21 hours behind Hobart. The journey there [View Full Entry]

What a great couple of weeks we have had !! Last weekend, Marcus (best man) and Sharon came to stay for the weekend. Saturday, we went out around Hobart. We went to Salamanca Market and bought a sausage from one of the stalls. We walked around a bit, chatted lots in the glorious sunshine and then went to a friend’s house for a curry and some wine. Sunday, we went to help Jen with the house and children - as Andrew had a bit of an accident and was in hospital with a damaged leg. He is ok now but obviously [View Full Entry]

14th July Well...........................we continue to enjoy life here and have been pretty busy lately. We are now at the end of our fourth week of school - 8 left after this! I have taken control of the signing choir which has been an experience and a half!!! There are about 20 children and they are very keen. I had become involved in "The Festival of Voices" - held in Hobart. However, I decided to drop out - as the leader was very much into "ice-breaker" type warm-ups which I am sure have just been invented in order to make us feel stupid. [View Full Entry]

Run to the G Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne
Saturday 10th June - Tuesday 13th June The next part of our holiday was great. We went on a few more runs(including a practice half-marathon up the Pipeline Track near our house), chopped some more wood and then went off to see 'The Davinci Code' at the pictures. I went out with a colleague from school which was fun - finally I am establishing some friends! (hear those violins!)- though it was extremely quiet as it was Monday night which was the night of the bank holiday in aid of the queen's birthday. Wednesday 14th June We headed off in Marcus' [View Full Entry]

Monday 5th June We began our holiday walking up to a place called Wellington Falls, straight from our house! The walk was 17km but not too steep and on good paths. The weather was very cold but sunny and at the end of the walk we were rewarded with great views of Wellington Falls. We saw very few people - nothing like walking back in the UK. On the way back, Ivor realised he had left his expensive walking gloves so I took the backpacks and he legged it back to get them, and to try and beat the darkness (it [View Full Entry]
