Byron Bay, Byron Bay, Byron Bay. Everyone keeps banging on about how good Byron Bay is and so we went. People have gotten engulfed in this place for weeks, charmed by it and more than probably drugged by it. We had arrived into the town in the evening, after changing our clocks forward an hour, not booked a place to stay as the whole way down accommodation hadn't been a problem. Byron bay however was different, everyone we asked said they were full all but 2. One offered us a double room at quite a price which we almost fully booked until we heard of a couple of beds free at one of the hostels. We cancelled our booking and made for the hostel. Now these free beds that they said they had soon disappeared and ... read more

On the road again... ...to Byron Bay. Words cannot describe how much we loved Byron Bay. With its laid back vibe, gorgeous beach and numerous ice cream parlours (fuelling Georgia's addiction) we were in paradise. Despite the extortionate amount we paid for our beds at 'The Holidy Village' (Max sleeping in a storage room for $30 a night...no jokes.) it was worth every single precious penny. The hippy and vintage shops kept Georgia and Sophie entertained for hours whilst at night we made some of our favourite memories in the infamous Cheeky Monkeys and Woody's (Georgia met her future husband here. He was perfect.) One day we ventured out to the peculiar town of Nimbin, famous for the hippy vibe originating from the Nimbin Festival in the 60's. With shops such as 'Happy High Herbs' and ... read more

This blog is slightly behind as we didn't have access to the internet in certain spots/were not willing to pay some of the ridiculous prices in the hostels for wifi. Anyway we arrived in Byron Bay and had pre-booked our hostel, The Arts Factory, great hostel we were stayin gin the wreck room so once we had put our bags down we headed to the communal area to meet up with Elizabeth, the french-canadian girl we had previous met in Rainbow Beach and caught a glimpse of in Airlie Beach. We got baked straight way, picking up off a skinny tall long haired blonde guy nammed 'Princess.....' Later that day we met a french guy named Mathew & a american named Andrew, both lived next to us in the Tallow room, both were absolute stoners, just ... read more

We arrived in Byron Bay, completely exhausted and weren't able to check straight into our rooms, so instead of collapsing into bed we dragged ourselves off to explore. Before we did this, we checked our belongings in and gave over our passports..... except that Gwend quickly realised she did not have her passport. This was one of our worst travelling fears come true; Gwenda unpacked and repacked her bag a million times before the horror truly sank in- thankfully, when she rang the hostel that we had just left in Sydney, the staff had picked it up. We were so relieved but would not completely relax until she had in back in her hands. The Jolly Swagman hostel agreed to send it on to Brisbane, where we would arrive in about ten days, to give ... read more

17/11- Having slept reasonably well, only being disturbed a couple of times when the bus stopped and passengers changed seats, i woke as we were driving down the highway, looking across the road and the flat lands of Woolgoolga either side, at 7.10am I saw my first wild kangaroo bounding across verge!! They sure can cover ground quickly! Regretfully, a couple of hours later the bus blew two tyres and we were stranded by the side of the road for 5 hours until another driver came to collect us. My fellow travellers and I chatted to pass the time and walked into the local town for a schooner of cold beer. It turned out that quite a few of us hadn't booked accommodation for the night, we learnt that it was Schoolies Week and the whole ... read more

Apologies to all our hard core readers snce we have been very inactive recently. Since leaving Cmbodia internet is either really hard to come by or costs the same as a meal for two ( we will always choose to eat). We spent a wonderful few days in Phom Phen after meeting the best tuk tuk driving ever. He took us to the killing fields and s21 prisoon which were both used during the Pol Pot regime . Both extremely sad places to visit since you know that millions of people died right where we stood. Very interesting and sad day. Our tuk tuk driver was only 9 years old when it all happened and he lost his father and both his brothers as well as many more friends and relatives so he was able to ... read more

Naechstern Stop Rockhampton. Ich bin ... read more

We woke up, thankfully not to the insane monkey chattering of kookaburras, but rather to the only mildly annoying squawks of a seagull-sized bird and his mate. When I woke up and walked towards the bathroom, said bird and his mate were escorting their three chicks across the pathway. The two parents spread their wings and walked towards me, aggressively posturing and squawking their disapproval that I would dare get so close to their babies. Which is all well and good, yet by abandoning their chicks to threaten me, a kookaburra swept down and started walking towards the chicks. I walked around the moronic parent birds and let them deal with their kookaburra issue. Once everyone was up and at em, we drove into town and found some breakfast. My usual routine of eggs and toast ... read more

The day started with breakfast on a balcony. All 4 of us – Maria, myself, Forest, and Henry - packed up and got in their car (yea, they’re loaded) for our hour long road trip to Byron. I learned a lot about Anthony Kiedis since I wore my chili pepper shirt – read “Scar Tissue” and you’ll understand. We got to Byron and immediately went to the beach. We all body surfed in the most vicious waves – captured on GoPro (our waterproof camera). When we were out of the water, the wind was so strong that the sand felt like bullets when it hit us. I drove the car to lunch!! I was so bad at it too haha. We ate lunch at a burger joint – the guy behind the counter sang rap techno ... read more
