As we woke up this morning the sun was shining but there was rain predicted for later in the day although the guys working at the hostel seemed confident that they always predict rain but it's nearly always wrong, so on the basis we booked up a kayaking tour for the following day and walked into town. We walked down on to the beach from our hostel and then made the 15 minute walk along the beach watching the brave surfers out in the sea as the storm clouds came closer and the waves were getting bigger. When we were 5 minutes from town the clouds did open and the rain spurred us on to walk a bit faster and take refuge in the hogs breath cafe for an early lunch whilst ... read more

With our next coach journey on the greyhound not till late afternoon we had a slow start not getting up till 10:00, and then headed for the miniature golf across the road for a complimentary 18 holes on the Waterfall course! Jo started well winning the first few holes but Will reacted well to the taunting and stormed back to win the next five holes with a couple of holes in one! Although Jo won a couple more holes and we halved a few, a quick tally up at the end of the round showed Will has retained his dignity and snatched the victory so he can stand proud next time he plays a game back in the UK! With sun shining we decided to soak up the rays whilst doing a little admin on the ... read more

Byron was a surfing crazy town, it had an amazing beach and fantastic weather. Perfect reciepe for riding some waves. We didnt! Instead we chilled and topped up our tans. We headed to the Gold Coast to enjoy the theme parks. They were so much fun and we managed to keep our dinner down! Paul wasnt too impressed being dragged around the water rides and screamed like a girl on the first ride because he was too cold (it is winter here!) After that I had to drag him away though. . . so much fun.... read more

Byron Bay. Where to start. Here is what the Lonely Planet has to say about it: “Byron Bay’s reputation precedes it like no other place in Australia. It’s a gorgeous town where the trademark laid-back, New Age populace lives an escapist, organic lifestyle against a backdrop of evergreen hinterland and never-ending surfable coastline. With such a heady high rap in mind, the pitfall lies in arriving in this utopia along with every other backpacker on the coast, and wondering what all the fuss is about. Never fear, the sensation doesn’t last long. Byron’s unique vibe has a way of converting even the most cynical with its long days, balmy weather, endless beaches, delightful accommodation, delectable food, delirious nightlife, ambling milieu and the charis... read more

We took an overnight bus to get to Byron Bay which wasn't too bad we both managed to get some sleep. We stayed at Aquarius which was such a good hostel it was really social with stuff on every night and also we got free dinner every night which saves us so much money. We met some of the nicest girls in our room Brittany, Jen, Sophie & Claire (who is from Melton Mowbray ). We went out with them on our first night in our hostel where they had karaoke, they offered anyone who did it on their own a free drink so loads of people had a go and they were awful but very entertaining haha!!! The hostel did a cocktail called Jungle Juice which is Goon (cheap cheap wine) based. We then went ... read more

Arrived in Byron Bay on Sunday. We got to our hostel Holiday Village quite late and just wanted to go straight to sleep. We arrived with a girl called Jodie who had also been at Spot X and travelled on the same bus as us. In our room was an American guy who seemed really funny at first but was having drinks with two girls (who weren't actually staying in our room) in our room. They stayed for ages pre-drinking before they would go out, and he clearly loved to be the centre of attention entertaining everyone. But my amusement soon wore off as he would not shut up and they contemplated staying in even though they could see the rest of us were trying to sleep! Thankfully they all eventually went out and he didn't ... read more

I got on the Oz Experience bus from Sydney not really knowing what to expect but it was great fun from the word go! At the bus stop I got chatting to a few girls from England, and knew it would be easy to make friends as everyone is so friendly. The Oz Exp bus driver/tour guide asked us all to come to the front and say our names, where we have been/are heading on our travels, what colour underwear we are wearing and also whether we fold or scrunch our toilet paper! My first thought was Oh God this is going to be mortifying, but it was actually a really good icebreaker! We also had to announce whether we were a red/orange or green light... as you can imagine most people on the bus were ... read more
