Lots of clouds are out. A little bit chilly here Nice to people watch. I would have to say that one of my favourite free activities is people watching. Especially while sitting on the fine sands of Byron Bay. It really amazes me that the sand actually squeaks when you walk over it. I've been taking it pretty easy here today in Byron Bay. Just sitting on the beach reading and doing some people watching. Now that is always a fun activity. Here are some things I've witnessed... * Lots of surfer's wiping out * Girl with a white bikini...not a pretty sight when wet and the owner of said bikini is shall we say very well endowed in many areas! * Lots of cellulite. Just because they sell bikini's doesn't mean you have to own ... read more

Sitting on the beach On the sands of Byron Bay Watching the surfer's. What a sleep in. I got back to the hostel with Nicola at about 2AM. Two of my roommates were still out and boy did they make an entrance! Talk about noisy! The first girl came back to the room at about 3AM and was fiddling with the door for the longest time. First I think she was having trouble fitting the key into the door and then I think she couldn't figure out how to lock the door (it automatically locks!) Then at about 4AM the second girl comes back and has a guy with her. They climb into the top bunk of one of the beds. Oh gawd! Don't tell me they're about to get it on! Luckily they didn't because ... read more

Aborigines A memorial for them Really makes you think. Cardinal rule #1 broken by the driver. He told the group we would be leaving at 8AM...ready to go at 8:30. So of course the whole group hears 8:30. Me, not one to like waiting for the bathroom was up and washed first so when Sparrow, our driver, came through to wake up the "possums" I was the only one awake. Oh well. Another lazy and leisurely breakfast for me! :) The day was a pretty long day of driving with a few breaks to stretch the legs and see a few things too. Our first stop was to see an Aborigine memorial. I believe there were several Aborigines savagely murdered and one of the largest trials in Australian history took place to prosecute the murderers. It ... read more

Greetings friends today we are finishing up our time in the hippie alternative lifestyle town of Byron Bay. It is a very small town centered around relaxation and surfing....but mostly surfing. Lots of strange dirty people wandering around the beaches and hemp shops and plenty of hot bods hitting the waves. We are staying at a hostel called The ARts Factory. Very strange....it was created by 2 american vietnam draft dodgers who came to australia and started a dance club. Now it is a very hippie place with all sorts of zany sleeping, eating, living options: you can sleep in a double decker bus, or a giant teepee, get free didgeredoo lessons etc. Last night we saw a neat aboriginal culture show where some natives danced and played the didge. His playing was really great. At ... read more

Wow! the first word uttered out of my mouth upon seeing the coastline. What a beautiful beach, the lighthouse gives it charming feel but what strikes me the most is just how turquoise the ocean is!!! intense colour!!. Almost as nice as Blackpools alluring coast. Byron is a nice little town with a mix of hippies backpackers and your normal holiday makers, and refreshingly devoid of all the chains like McDonalds and Burger king, consists of basically one main street with a gorgeous beach and coast line at its end, and good nightlife. esp. Cheeky Monkeys! We went kayaking out in the sea and were amazed at how soon we were surrounded by Dolphins! they even came up close and made eye contact it was amazing to experience & just see first hand. The sense of ... read more

G'Day everybody, For the past 3 months I've been living and working in Byron Bay. The hippie capital of east coast Australia, along with my best buddy fron Uni, Andrea. It's been a pretty eventful time with lots of ups (piss ups) and downs (working). We learnt the hard way that these two don't necessarily go hand in hand..... like the fateful Saturday night we decided not to call the restaurant to see if they needed us to work, deciding instead to get hammered and go out. Two hours in, and both completly drunk we recieved a phone call from our boss. Giggling like scool girls we asked our flatmate to answer and say we weren't in. Half an hour later our later our boss phoned back and screamed blue murder at our flat mate, saying ... read more
