Bon Bon on the Go Go

Hello all, welcome to my travel blog. Anybody coming here will probably know me already, so I'm not going to write anything about myself. The entries here will be describing my Round the World Adventure, taking in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, India, New Zealand, Australia, Europe and beyond. The adventure begins December 28th, 2004 to ?? I'm travelling solo for the most part, so will no doubt be writing here lots when human comapanionship is lacking, I'm obsessed with keeping the blog more or less up-to-date or the parents want to know of my whereabouts! lol

Still writing haiku Will be one of the last ones Time to write a book? Wow, I started this blog over a year ago. Sadly (or maybe for some "thank goodness" haha) I must tell you that I have decided that this will be my very last entry for this blog. But not before telling you about what I've been up to since my last entry. Well, the most exciting would be my time in Chicago and the silliness of the Festive Season that is upon us. Here goes... Chicago - Saturday, December 3 to Sunday December 11, 2005 Saturday, December 3rd. Navigate the roads So many highways and tolls You missed the turn off! Our flight from Seattle to Chicago was delayed because of the weather in Chicago so we (my sister Laura and I) ... read more

Three weeks at home...wow! I've gotten lots of questions. Here are some answers. Wow, I can't believe that I've been home for three weeks now. Lots has happened in that time...crafting away...eating...kickass two day craft fair...volunteering with Guides again...eating...trying to get organized...eating...doing buddy things with my nephew...eating...organizing snax club stuff...eating...sorting through 6000 photos...eating...sorting through all the souvenirs I sent home...eating...catching up with a few friends...eating...hearing 6 versions of the same story...eating. I seriously don't know where my time goes (I mean when I'm not eating!) haha I thought that I'd write up this blog to answer some of the most frequently asked questions posed to me. An interview with myself. LOL Q: Where was your favourite Country that you visited and why? A: That's a tough question for... read more

Keeping statistics Is not very fun, but it keeps boredom away! On one of my train rides I started writing down "numbers" of things from my time away this past year. I thought I'd share some of them here with you. * # of notebooks used for keeping notes for this blog: 6 * # of underwear lost: 1. I wonder if it's still hanging there drying in that hostel in Scotland? * # of socks tossed because they've become too scary: 4 * # of pictures taken: over 6000 although the picture count on my camera is currently at 6990. Mind you, I have deleted some along the way. * # of countries I have set foot in: 18 - Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, India, New Zealand, Australia, England, Wales, Scotland, France, Germany, USA, Puerto ... read more

It's almost surreal Surprised my whole family, with a ring on the phone. Pinch me! I can't believe that I've been home for about 24 hours now! It's been great. Yesterday, after finally pulling into Via's Vancouver Station and then having to wait for ages for my baggage to come out I headed towards Main and Terminal to catch the bus home. I tell you, that bus ride home seemed almost as long as the previous 26 hours I had just spent on the train from Edmonton. lol I got off one stop before my stop since I had two last postcards to mail and then crossed the lights as I dialed home. Hmm, the first time I tried I got the voicemail after 5 rings...hey, that's my voice. haha So I figured that everyone was ... read more

I am homeward bound Three hundred and nineteen days To circle the Earth. Six hours of sleep, contorted on a two seater train seat. I'm surprised that I actually feel refreshed after a big stretch or two. I guess the excitement of getting closer and closer to home has helped. It is currently 06:34. No idea where we are since it's still really dark out and I can't see a thing except the outline of various trees. Hopefully we made up some time last night so that we're not too far off the time table. Oh hey, there's water and mountains to the right. I should switch seats...mind you it's still dark out. Never know what scary things I might see. haha Hey, is that a ferry out there?? I do see some cars driving but ... read more

Wake up? No, not yet. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. It's now 7! Time to catch my train. The train has arrived early...just like me. I didn't sleep well from 5-7AM 10 for fear I would sleep through my alarm and 2) the Dutch girl in the bunk below me kept talking in her sleep. If you're going to talk in your sleep at least have something juicy for the rest of us that have to listen to you. haha It was interesting though that she was speaking English is her sleep! Anyhoo, I had most of my stuff packed up last night so it was just my pj's and flip flops and toiletries that I had to shove into my bags before I was ready to check out. Then the taxi came super quick and I ... read more

No more shopping please Chillaxin' in Edmonton Easy going day. I took it pretty easy today since I have vowed not to do any shopping of any sort other than grocery shopping. Let's see how long this lasts. haha While making my breakfast of Japanese instant noodles (just trying to finish up my stash of food before leaving catching the train tomorrow) I met a Japanese girl and Canadian guy making some "sandwich maker bundles". Some contained red bean, some corn, some tuna and cheese. You get the idea. They had well over a couple of dozen of them made up! They were kind enough to share with me but I didn't want to appear too greedy and only helped myself to one. Not bad! Since my hair was still wet I decided to hang out ... read more

See Legislature Quite impressive inside here And the tour's free! I dilly dallied around the room organizing some of my things while Michelle packed up her bags. She wanted to move onto Calgary and then Banff sooner rather than later so as to be able to find herself a job. So with all of Michelle's stuff in tow we walked over the bridge into the downtown area to check out the Legislature Building. Michelle was a bit pressed for time so we just took a few quick photos outside of the buildings and then decided to find out where the bus depot was and whether we could walk there by noon or if Michelle would have to catch a cab. My plan was to see Michelle off and then head on back to the Legislature Buildings ... read more

West Edmonton Mall Shopping, shopping, more shopping Charge it to Visa! It's about 6AM right now and I had too much water to drink last night and can't sleep anymore on the train. So here I am writing in my journal. I'm just thinking that this is my second to last train ride before I get into Vancouver. Now what will the last few hours on that train be like? Will they seem to just drag on? I sure hope not! Once we pulled into Edmonton Station it was really crowded inside the tiny terminal building. I had to wait for the checked baggage to come out so I decided to check out what sort of brochures and leaflets they had on offer about Edmonton. That's where I had the chance meeting with Michelle from Australia. ... read more

Waiting for the train Spent lots of time at the Forks Train to Edmonton. I didn't have too much planned for today since the "main attraction" of getting on the westbound train towards Edmonton wasn’t to happen until about 5PM. So Natalie, Laura and I took our time packing up our stuff and having a leisurely breakfast before heading over to the train station to check in our bags. At breakfast we chatted up this cool retired couple from New Zealand. They've been travelling around Canada and the US for almost five months now. They bought a used camper van and have logged about 27,000 km so far on "Kathleen." They started in Calgary and did a lot of exploring of Western Canada up to the Yukon and Alaska then back down the west coast down ... read more
