See Legislature
Quite impressive inside here
And the tour's free!
I dilly dallied around the room organizing some of my things while Michelle packed up her bags. She wanted to move onto Calgary and then Banff sooner rather than later so as to be able to find herself a job.
So with all of Michelle's stuff in tow we walked over the bridge into the downtown area to check out the Legislature Building. Michelle was a bit pressed for time so we just took a few quick photos outside of the buildings and then decided to find out where the bus depot was and whether we could walk there by noon or if Michelle would have to catch a cab. My plan was to see Michelle off and then head on back to the Legislature Buildings for a tour.
Trying to hail a cab in Edmonton is not the easiest thing to do. Or perhaps it was just bad timing on our part. So the next best thing I thought we could do was stop in at the gas station to ask for directions and if the bus depot was too far we could just ring up a
cab which is what we ended up doing in the end. Michelle was cutting it close but was lucky that the cab came within minutes of being called. We said a quick goodbye and parted ways. Michelle racing off to the bus depot in a taxi and me with a bag of Munchos in one hand walked back to the Legislature Buildings.
It was about 10 minutes to noon by the time I got to the Gift Shop and Interpretive Centre where Legislature tours start. There was nobody in the gift shop when I entered so I couldn't ask where should I go for the tour and proceeded to check out some of the souvenirs on offer. It was about 11:58 when the gift shop guy came back and asked all in the shop (there were about 6 of us in there at this point) if we wanted to go on the tour. I was the only one that said yes. Then the second employee says to the first guy, "I just talked to June. She's headed over to the Building already. But if you run you can catch up with them. I'll call ahead and let them know."
So I raced off across the icy path and up the stairs and told the security guard that I was there for the tour...only three minutes late. 😊 It wasn't too bad though. I apologized for being late and tried to listen to what our tour guide June had to say but it was really distracting and irritating with the Russian interpretation and the German interpretation going on at the same time. I sort of felt bad for the June, our tour guide and I think I tried to appear even more interested in what she was saying than I really was. lol
Since I was a few minutes late for the tour at the end June was nice enough to tell me the stuff I had missed at the beginning...not very much! We ended up talking for another 15 minutes or so. She really likes the Vancouver area and doesn't know why she sticks around Edmonton in wintertime because it just gets too cold for her these days.
Anyhoo, from the Legislative Buildings I made my way to Jasper Avenue (or is that Street?) and caught a bus to where else but the West Edmonton Mall! I did a little bit more shopping and even ventured outside of the mall to check out a scrapbooking store that I saw listed on the internet. It was nice to look around the scrapbooking store but there weren't as many good ideas for my scrapbook there as there had been in the stores I came across in Toronto. Plus the staff at this store in Edmonton weren't the friendliest bunch either!
I didn't buy too much stuff at the mall but did manage to stay out until about 8PM! I guess my time spent browsing around HMV and Chapters really took more time than I thought it was gonna take. lol
Once again I ended up doing a bit of repacking of my bags and chatted with some of my roomies. Smartie pants by the way! Laura from England is in her 6th year of medicine and just finished up one term in Penticton. She's been travelling all around BC and has become a snowboarding fanatic. Then my other Dutch roommate Anja is a 4th year med student who will be doing a term in Edmonton starting in the next couple of weeks. It's gonna be a cold one!
Before I knew it we were chatting for so long that it was soon time for bed at midnight! Where does the time go? But no complaints from me cuz that just means that it is one more sleep closer to getting home!!!
