Hello from Byron Bay - the hippi part of the east coast! Byron has been our home for a good two weeks and its been nice to finally settle down somewhere for a change. We have been staying in a pretty nice lodge with its own pool etc and 9 of us are staying together in an apartment which has allowed us to cut on living costs as it has its own kitchen etc etc. Over the last week or so ive become a pretty dab hand in the old kitchen, cooking up mexican meals, sweet thai chilli chicken and other gourmet meals!! Byron is a fairly small town with one main strip leading up to the beach. Conveniently where we are staying is directly opposite one of the most popular clubs in the area called ... read more

Hello readers! I travelled to Byron Bay with Phil for a few days before he left and then Liam came to Byron to meet me. We decided to move to a place called Lennox Head as we were waiting for Laurie to come and wanted to save some money and Byron Bay is quite expensive! Lennox Head is a quiet little surfing town, really picturesque. We stayed here for 9 days, the accomodation was brilliant for the price, we had a little apartment between 6 of us! We took the opportunity to relax, relax and then ...relax! We spent our days on the beach, in the pool, in a gorgeous tea tree lake (the lake had tea tree trees surrounding it so it was filled with tea tree oil, looked like a giant cup of tea!). ... read more

Byron in a nutshell: partied all night, slept on the beach all day. Met up with Cosi (girl who I met on Fraser Island) and we stayed at a guy's house who rented out his rooms to travellers. This made a refreshing change to staying at a hostel, and meant that all my unwashed clothes could be unpacked and spread about my bed, so that made me feel right at home. Byron has a real mix of people from geriatric hippies (a large proportion of the town!) to seemingly 12 year old (but in reality 18) Oz girls and boys getting drunk; so me and Cosi fitted right in!! We mainly caught some serious rays at the beach during the day, or practised our surfing skills, as we are both planning on entering the next World ... read more

I spent a feqw days in Byron Bay, this tunred out to be longer than i had planned but it just seemed far better that Surfers (where i briefly went) which seems so capitalist that i just headed back to Byron. Byron is a moor relaxed place, in some ways its like an exponentially smaller san francisco, which is good. I got there, with no hostel to stay in and this wasn't good, the place is so popular that every bed was booked out, which was a shame. I had to get a more expensive hotewl room for my first night, butv was able to book into a hostel for the next three. In my hostel i met a gang of seven Irish guys who were really friendly, accompanying them were two norweigian girls and a ... read more

Hi All, Time for the next installment! Sorry it's taken a while, I wrote it but forgot to publish, d'oh! We are on a roadtrip up the East Coast at the moment with another couple, Mike and Monique. Camping or staying in hostels all the way. We've stopped at various places but have spent most of our time in Byron Bay and Surfers Paradise so far. Port Macquarie was our first stop - a little seaside town where we swam, chilled out and visited a koala sanctuary - not seen any wild ones yet though. Next stop Byron Bay which I loved. For those of you who haven't been, it's this chilled out little surfer town with a gorgeous beach and great atmosphere. Our campsite overlooked the beach and we spent most of our time there, ... read more

I am just writing a short entry here because i have had some real ups and downs in the time i have been by myself. Its strange because i have made mistakes and i think that i need to learn to eliminate those mistakes, and i think that i will need to travel alone for much longer in order to stop making things difficult for myself. I realise i am being pretty vague here, but the fact is that recently i duplicated one of my biggest errors, and its making me think about myself and how i can change things like that from happening. Still i have a new resolve and that states that "ATM doesn't make the same mistake three times" - Does that sound good?... read more

Hello from Byron Bay, I have just finished a 5day surf tour from Sydney up to Byron Bay which is about an hour or so away from Brisbane. There were 6 of us (our group) on the tour but we were joined by another 40 odd people so it finally gave us a chance to get to meet some new characters which was nice. We were picked up at 8am on Monday morning from Syndey and driven for a few hours up the coast to the villa type base at the surf camp. Almost as soon as we had arrived it was a case of grabbing some lunch, dropping off our bags then heading out for another drive to one of the many remote beaches where we were given our first lesson in how to stand ... read more

On the way down to Byron we stopped off in Brisbane for about an hour, but we werent that interested in looking around so opted for a KFC and hopped back on the bus down to Byron with our crazy bus driver. After about 8 hours on the bus we arrived, and we were also back in NSW time. Luckily we had booked up our accomodation at 'The Art Factory' the day before in Noosa, as it was particularly busy. The hostel was probably one of the best that we have stayed in- it was really big with loads of places to chill out and a good bar and restaurant with a great atmosphere- the staff were excellent. It wasnt your average hostel, more like a hippy commune with a choice to camp in your own ... read more
