070820 Seattle, Washington Seattle is a huge city with road that criss cross everywhere and it’s much more hilly than I though. The streets are narrow and there are so many one way streets and odd traffic directions I had a rough time navigating. I didn’t know where to go but had heard that downtown was cool so I headed there. After find a spot to park at an exorbitant 6 bucks for 2 hours I began my self guided tour. At the corner of Yessler and 2nd I saw a large crowd of people surrounding a man who was speaking. I edged closer and head the Elvis look alike talking about the history of the building he was standing next to. He finished his spiel and began walking down the sidewalk, the crowd followed and ... read more

Day 10 We went into this shed today that looked pretty big from the outside, it wasn’t until you were inside and noticed the two 747 400’s in one corner that you realised just how big it was. In actual fact it is a single floor building of 4.3 million square feet and you could fit a ten story building in under the roof. Volumetrically the largest building in the world. It is the birthplace off all of the big Boeing aircraft. (747 767 777 and 787) w also saw the dreamlifters, these are four oversize 747’s used to fly in components which are manufactured at various locations world-wide for the 787. No cameras allowed so not much in the way of photo’s. Today. It was open day for staff and families for the 40th anniversary ... read more

Day 9 This morning we drove from North Bend into Seattle, a bit under an hours drive if you go straight in. we did not. We first went up to a place called Alpenthal, which is a popular skiing spot when it has snow on it and equally as popular for hiking when it does not. We did neither but enjoyed the stunning scenery and interesting houses built by home sick Austrians. We then proceeded to Snoqualmie Falls. A waterfall with a gigantic drop of over 300ft. from there we went into Pier street market on the waterfront in Seattle, being Saturday it was a real zoo but pretty interesting. We also saw the very first Starbucks outlet although we did not fight through the crowd to buy a coffee there. We saw of course the ... read more

Hello all, Well we have been home for over a week now and we thought that we should do one last blog since we said we would. It is good to be home and back to our comfortable surroundings. We had a bit of a whirlwind first week home. We stayed in Seattle for a few days, then traveled across the state to visit Brandon's parents, grandparents, and other family. We were planning to live in Spokane, but work has moved Brandon so we are moving back to Seattle to live. We are sad that our trip is over, but we had a great time and now we have so many memories. Thanks for everyone who has been reading our blog and posting us messages, it has kept us tied to the states. We promise to ... read more

After teaching summer school Chris and I decided to take a much needed road trip in our new Honda Element. We decided to drive from Seattle to San Francisco. Here is the outline of where we went. Once we got on the road, we left Seattle and headed to Yakima, where my parents live, as they were gracious enough to watch Otis. From Yakima we traveled through the Dalles and over the Columbia Gorge. We did not stop driving until we got to Eureka California. We had intended on staying in Crescent City however, when we got there, we found the accommodations to be less than savory. Crescent City although a great mid-point between Washington and San Francisco, was not the cleanest place to stay. Before we pulled out of town heading south we stopped ... read more

We've had the past year or so to soak up Washington state while we spent time with our families and worked. In early July we went to Eastern WA and to Montana. July was a great month of visiting old friends and family. Or should I say old family and young friends; and some young family. We also enjoyed some classic Missoula scenery and rivers. After returning to WA, Natalie headed out on an adventure with my parents, John and Tricia to beautiful Ross Lake WA, it's gorgeous up there as you might see from the photos. They kayaked up to Ross Lake Dam from Diablo Lake and paid for a ride around the dam and then paddle up Ross Lake. Natalie and Barb also hiked desolation peak. (btw Natalie doesn't give a damn about Kerouac) ... read more

Northern California: OK, the first gray day was serene and restful, the second day was a bit dreary, and the third day, at Elk Prairie State Park, was downright damp, dank and gloomy. We still had great evenings around the camp fire, and saw not only shooting stars, but scary critters while lying back in the sand in the middle of the nighttime dunes, but the constant fog and gray during the day was getting me down. I hadn’t know that this was the given for summer weather on the northern coast. I was more than ready to head inland on the 7th in order to get back my summer groove. So we drove from the Redwoods to the Oregon Caves National Monument. Here, I satisfied my sun craving enough to spend 90 minutes deep underground. ... read more

Day 6 - Port Angeles/Seattle On the way back to Seattle we were going to stop at a lavender farm (we didn't) and the Olympic Game Farm (we did!) So we're out in the middle of Sequim and we drive up to this GHETTO farm. It was insane. They had yak, bison, buffalo, llamas, peacocks, rhinos, BEARS, deer, elk, lynx, coyotes, LIONS, and a BENGAL TIGER! we bought a loaf of bread to throw out the window, because you couldn't get out of the car, and these animals would like block your car and put their faces right up next to yours. Scared us half to death but then you look at the car behind you and they've got the whole animal's head IN THE CAR. It was a hoot. Especially the llamas. They sauntered. God, ... read more

Day 5 - Port Angeles. Olympic National Park. HOLY SMOKEZ, kids, you need to come to Olympic National Park! We drove up to Hurricane Ridge first, which was only about a 15 minute drive. Once you hit the top, there's a gift shop, clean bathrooms, convenience store, and BREATHTAKING views. Snowcapped mountains 'n all. There are tons of trails to hike and camp on, but we had a whole day o' stuff planned so we just went on the short one. It was still incredible.. go on! Look at the pictures! Then we drove on Highway 101 headed towards the Pacific Ocean. On the way there was this incredibly beautiful lake - Lake Cresent - and oh my stars.. there were mountains but just the water itself was a sight. It was beyond blue, y'all!. The ... read more
