Today we were heading to one of the places I was really looking forward to, Seattle. It was quite a drive until we came into Seattle and headed for our Hotel, which was a little while outside the city, closer to the airport. We got our rooms and I was in a room with Ben, I wasn’t happy, Dave got his own room. I threw my gear on the bed and went to have a look around the hotel, went on the internet for a while then met with everyone in the hotel lobby. We didn’t have much time in Seattle unfortunately, we had from 4PM then headed off again early tomorrow. Jon dropped us off down town and we began to have a look around. First we went to the space needle and headed up ... read more

Mount St. Helens and environs Lots to talk about here with many many photos, but I haven't got the time to update this section. To the point, we rode horseback around the mudflow and got a herlicopter view of the caldera of mount st. helens. We also hiked up to the mount ranier glaciers. Much more to come when I get organized.... read more

We met up with who Jason moved to Seattle from Charlotte a few years ago, which means he knows his way around and happily showed us the sights. Jason works for Wizards of the Coast, so he plays games for a living and gave us a tour of the place. We also hit the Japanese garden in Seattle. Lots of pictures to come.... read more

...continued Cahors would be the last time I would ever see The Way. As I sat, as I wandered through the small picturesque town situated on a bend upon the Lot River—as I felt my body and listened deeper to a purpose gone unknown—I came to understand much about Le Chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle. The Way presented itself with all I had dreamt of: it was rough, it was a challenge, and it was isolation and segregation from the external world beyond me. The Way of Saint James was immense, and its’ scope of power and realization fulfilled my expectations, but it guided me in the opposite direction. From the outset, I imagined walking alone. I saw myself wayfaring with the simple contents of a backpack filled with few clothes, tent and sleeping equipment, ... read more

Left Mt Rainer NP and headed to the ocean. It was a bummer day for us, coming out of the back country and into civilization again. We ran into a huge traffic jam in Olympia - a ten-mile backup. For the last week and a half, rush hour traffic for us consisted of seeing another car heading in the same direction as us. Dave saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time in Wetport, WA. He was surprised at the slate color of the sand and the fine texture like talcom powder. It packs down so hard below the high water mark, that you can actually ride your bike on it with realative ease. We traveled down the coast and came to our destination of the day, Cape Disappointment at the mouth of the Columbia River. ... read more

We're back in Seattle! Thanks to everyone who followed along with our trip...we had a phenomenal time...and it was wonderful to hear from all of you, read your comments, and know that you were keeping us safe with your thoughts! This is our final entry...so, farewell, and keep in touch! And, if we missed you on this trip due to weather or distance from our route, you can bet that we'll plan a vacation near you in the future! We still have to hit the Rockies in Colorado (can anyone say skiing and boarding?), the Carribean/Keys, and a few other places. We did hit all 48 continental United States...though in some we simply drove around in them or straight through them and didn't stop to sightsee. We'll have to plan vacations to Alaska and Hawaii in ... read more

Back to Seattle Well I had a short couple of weeks at home and it was time to get on the road again. I did not sleep well and was tired, not the way I wanted to feel to continue this trip, but that is the hand I had been dealt so I had to just go with it. Mark dropped me off at the airport and as soon as I walked into the airport some guy was telling another guy in the airport a supposed joke about the people Chelsea Clinton was most concerned about with the answer being Osama Bin Laden and her mom being president. The joke really made no sense it was just the guys way of campaigning against Hillary. This guy was on the same plane as I and continued telling ... read more

We took a short hike to an overlook in the campground at Riverside Park over the Spokane River. We got on Route 90 and headed west. We were surprised at how flat eastern WA state was. We saw a beautiful wind farm in the hills. Then we came to a scenic overlook and saw the beautiful and wide Columbia River. The interstate bridge over the river looked like the cape cod canal bridges. Coming over a hill in Ryegrass, we got our first glimpse of Mt Rainer. This huge 14,110 foot mountain sticking out of the prairie about 75 miles away. We stopped in Ellensburg for lunch and then got on Canyon Road and headed south. The canyon was gorgeous. It was so western looking, something we would expect to see in Wyoming. It followed the ... read more

After a VERY long day yesterday, I made it into Seattle yesterday at 4 PM. A shuttle service was supposed to pick me up at 7:20 in Hollywood. I called them at 7:30 and they said they had no record of me, but that they would pick me up at 8 AM. At 8:30 I had to freak out and get a cab. You must understand, I had a 10AM flight and it takes 40 minutes to get to LAX. I was none to happy. A very nice cab driver was more than willing to hustle to LAX ($70 dollars later!!) but it was to late, I could not get on the flight. Luckily, Alaskan Airlines put me on standby and I got out of LA at 11:30 instead of 10AM. I made sure I called ... read more
