I was supposed to leave today, September 11th, but something unexpected happened at the ticket counter. When I went to get my boarding pass, the lady asked me if I was in a real hurry to get to Madrid. I replied not really, and asked why she wanted to know. She said that they had overbooked the flight and are looking for volunteers to fly out tomorrow, the 12th, instead of today. They were offering 600 euros (830$) and hotel with meals if needed. I gladly accepted the offer, and gave up my seat today in exchange for 600 euros, which will definitely come in handy. I will keep everyone posted on how my flight over went after I arrive on Thursday. Dave ... read more

So... I'm making this AFTER I've already been on my trip. I have other blogs, but I'm making this my primary one for my trip to Japan that I took with 3 of my closest friends. I am going to backdate the entries so I'm going to post pictures and post entries on events that happened those particular dates. If you're seeing this, you probably know my other blogs. So... here we go.... read more

Here are pictures of the camp. When we were at Three Hills we were working at a college, so even though it was summer, there were always people around, and always things going on. We’re at a camp now, and it’s the school year (the businesses in town call it the Winter Season!) and there’s no one around but the staff, and the staff is smaller than the summer staff. It’s very different. Anyway, pictures! ... read more

We started our projects today, and I’m not in the library this time for sure! In the kitchen instead. We have to bleach each eating utensil, and Ithen run it through the dishwasher. After the cupboards are wiped down, we replace the dishes. Pretty basic, and certainly not hard work, but not work that needs much more discussion either! The men are at the Lake Camp, working on the finishing work of the interior dining/meeting hall. It’s the only building that’s up so far (other than the Lake Camp manager's house.) They work on the camp as money and time allow. The camp has its own mill saw, so they cut the trees, and then turn them into lumber, and then cut the lumber the size they need for they job they’re doing. Bob says ... read more

Hey all! So this will be my first entry in the blogsphere, so hope that you enjoy it. I'm a young traveller seeing the world at my pace.....work here, travel there....and enjoy in between. I left the merry old land of oz ('damn australian' - La Roche) last april and spent 7 months in the US ('gods country' - McIvor) travelling and working, mostly in san francisco, hawaii and seattle. After all that was done I headed up to Vancouver ('aye' - various) to work on recovering the funds lost. So after nine months of hectic, 2 job professional juggling acts I saved up enough for this current escapade. Now, due to lack of wisdom as well as a dislike of writing with a pen i failed to keep a diary of all these mis-adventures. So, ... read more

Boeing have set up a homage to the history of flight and it's own history and how it has grown and changed through the years. They really have done the complete subject justice. There are two main halls, which contain 40 or so aircraft in each. Everything from a reproduction of the Wright brothers first aircraft to space shuttles. In the first hall there are two flight simulators that cost $8 a person but are state of the art. You get locked in and it spins around to the way that you control the aircraft. There is also a small plane for the kids to have a go. It has a screen inside and it moves about as you move the joystick. Ellie really enjoyed it. There are also two cockpit sections of planes so that ... read more

Well, we've got nearly 4 weeks until we leave, but we're busily incorporating travel preparations into our daily routine. It's been a while since we've taken a real vacation. The last one was a road trip from Seattle to L.A. for Christmas in 2003 that was extended by a day when snow closures in the Siskiyou Mountains stopped our return journey in Redding, California. I made one brief trip to L.A. in 2004, but our family travel since that Christmas trip has been limited to weekend and holiday trips to see family and friends in Washington and Oregon. A lot has changed since that Christmas trip. We've bought and sold one house and bought a condo. We've both changed jobs and churches. My parents moved from L.A. to Lynnwood, Washington. And, most importantly (and joyfully), our ... read more

We went on Saturday to the state fair called Puyallup Fair (pronounced pew all up). The fair is on from the 7th till the 23rd of September. When we left the house in the morning it was 58°F and when we arrived at the showground 45 mins later it was 68°F. It was a scorcher, not a cloud in the sky. The fair itself is a mixture of animal shows/displays, rodeo and and big fair with bungee jumping rollercoasters etc. We wanted to see the rodeo and a thing called Mutton Bustin'. Mutton Bustin is where kids under 6 and 60lbs ride on the back of sheep and try and hang on for more than 6 seconds. It, to me, just seems wrong, but it is incredibly funny to watch. I got some video footage which ... read more
