Am starting to explore Richmond a bit more. Today, went and did a tour of Agecroft Hall. This is a 15th century English Tudor home which was moved to Richmond from England in the 1900s. The home in England was in danger of being demolished. They only moved a part of it but it's still huge. They took it apart piece by piece, numbering each piece for assembly in the US. The home was put together with 19th century modern features (like working bathrooms). The woodwork inside the home is original and gorgeous. More about this home at: http://www.agecrofthall.com/ The tour guide was very good. Was an hour long tour of the interior. No photos allowed inside. They have a very good collection of furniture from the 14th-16th centuries. According to the guide, they also rotate ... read more

Every year, the James Center in Richmond, VA gets set up with holiday lights. Since this is my first year in Richmond, I'm doing all these things for the first time. For my family and friends back home, here are some photos of the James Center all lit up. Note: I need a bigger tripod...the shots of the buildings with the lights reflecting did not turn out well. Need to redo.... read more

Tonight, went and saw the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Around the holidays, they put up massive amounts of holiday lights. All kinds of animals, insects and themes galore. Way more than are in these photos. I need a bigger tripod so some photos did not turn out. You can read more about Lewis Ginter at: http://www.lewisginter.org/ Somewhere I need to go back to in the spring when the flowers are blooming! Just sharing to my friends and family back home some of the sites of Richmond!... read more

There are times when you just gotta get out and drive. Here's a day trip through central Virginia. THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED…AND SOMETIMES LOST Three Chopped, Three Chopt, Three Notch, Three Notch’d. All separate yet one in the same. These are the names for the road that began as an indian trail stretching from Powhatan’s village, east of Richmond, all the way to the Shenandoah Valley. The name is believed to have originated because of the three notches carved into trees that marked the original trail. Then it was a meandering path through the hardwood forest. Today parts of it are six lanes of asphalt flanked by huge commercial developments. US250 closely follows the original road from Richmond to Staunton. Yet parts of the original road can still be seen in spots west of Richmond where ... read more

Geo: 37.5406, -77.4334The plane ride was uneventful and reasonably comfortable. I thought I was going to be trapped in the middle of the middle of the plane, but I was able to switch seats during online check-in and it made a huge difference. I got a wall in front of me and an aisle seat, so it was about as good as it could be without exchanging $8,000 for a bed in first class. No crying babies or loud talkers—very nice. I watched Zac Ephron's "17 Again" and a Woody Allen movie I had never heard of called “Match Point” where Jonathan Rhys Meyers kills his pregnant mistress and gets away with it. I also had time to watch a couple of episodes of Entorage since I wasn't sleeping. I'm not a huge fan of the ... read more

Tomorrow begins my journey to Morocco. Today has been goodbyes and packing. At this point, I am so close to departure that I am ready to dive in. Nervous, yes: prepared, maybe: ready to speak nothing but French for 6 weeks, we'll find out soon enough. I've got my clothes, books, and electronics and from here I just follow directions. Tomorrow, I drive with my dad to NY, where I'll fly from JFK straight to Casablanca. Next time I post, I'll be basking in the North African sun. Until then, happy Memorial day weekend.... read more

My teacher says "we don't have to be happy about our history, but we can be grateful for the destiny." I believe all of us look back and notice things about our history that we do not like, but the destiny is what really is important. I just had a wonderful Skype video conversation with Evelina at Spa Holis in Costa Rica. I will be working with her as we grow our businesses together at her spa in Manuel Antonio. What is exciting is that I will have the chance to teach classes every day, and have the opportunity to broaden our offerings to serve more individuals who seek what we give. Evelina told me about the farmer's market on Fridays and Saturdays - this piqued my interest because I am a vegan. I am curious ... read more

I am listening to my teachers on tape, filling my mind with words meant to feed my spirit so I can teach effectively and live the life I am supposed to live. I came across this passage in a book that I wanted to share: "Anyone who walks in daylight doesn't stumble because there's plenty of light from the sun. Walking at night, he might very well stumble because he can't see where he's going."... read more

The Grace Yoga mission statement includes the acronym PACE, Preparation, Affirmation, Cultivation and Education. Today, I am in the midst of preparing for a trip away from home. I will leave Richmond on May 5 to teach in Quepos, Costa Rica until October. Much of this preparation includes the to do list. I have to pack enough items to take me through the summer and early fall. I am a planner, but it is interesting that I am such a calmness about this journey. As I write, I know that I will expound upon all of the ins and outs of preparing and embarking on a trip like this. And this writing project is extemporaneous, impromptu. I am typing this as I think, so without editing, I am just revealing what comes to mind. Today, I ... read more
