The first train was due in at 10.27 am to Dc and was an hour late i then proceeded to get on the Amtrak train and my rucksack got caught on me and the door and i lost one of my set of traveling beads as it snagged and burst. I got my gear stowed and sat down and ... read more

Sunday morning and after the beers the night before i was the only one who was initially up and i was feeling pretty tired but i had not had much sleep as Andi was in the room next door and had been entertaining her boyfriend and that woke me up and plus the moving round and different beds and i think a case of jet lag aswell as meant i have not had a good nights sleep yet and add to the equation beer which does not aid a good nights sleep. So while everyone was still snoozing i did some re-arranging of my stuff and made sure it was packed for Monday and then i went online to try and work out what means of transport i would take to get to my next destinations. ... read more

Reached Richmond, Virginia yesterday after a 6 hour drive, which is the first time since South America I've had such a day of travelling. Still, it went by fairly quickly and we actually arrived slightly ahead of time. The hotel I'm staying in is in the centre of town (at last!) and is a restored 19th century building, so I felt pretty bad when within about 10 minutes of being there I managed to break one of the (probably antique) chairs in my room. There's not really a great deal to do in Richmond, and it seems to be quite an old city so a bit of a culture shock after coming from the high rises of Charlotte. But there was enough to occupy me for one day. First of all I walked to the Edgar ... read more

Every visit to Richmond, VA has been a unique adventure. This trip's mission: Run my first marathon. Status: DONE! We flew in Fri morning, Nov 9 in order to settle in with friends well before "game time" and to gauge the atmosphere of downtown Richmond. After lunch at Ukrop's, we headed to the Omni Hotel to join other marathon participants on a guided 2-hour bus tour of the course. Then, we went to the expo itself to pick up our bib number, t-shirt, and free literature. The race organizers offered no free swag whatsoever, but I did get a free green bracelet (which I proudly wore on race day) from the wonderful folks at Donate Life. After a rich carb-loaded dinner, we settled in for a movie prior to getting a good night of sleep. We ... read more

Ok, so things didn’t turn out exactly as planned, but I didn’t expect they would. We wanted to close on the house sometime near Aug 12th, but are closing on July 30th in order to “seal the deal”. So with that jobless, homeless, uninsured week-and-a-half what do we do? And what a perfect opportunity that turned into for visiting Leigh’s parents in the Dominican Republic! COOL!... read more

We went by the house for the last time making sure we had taken care of everything and the house was empty. We took the camera and snapped some pictures. It was sad to say goodbye to the ole' house and to close a chapter of our lives. ... read more

Saturday we went down to Richmond to visit Axel's friend Jon and it was a blast. I never really knew how much Richmond has to offer. We picked him up at his house and went downtown to a cute french bistro with nice outdoor seating. It was HOT, but fun no less. This is where we ate: http://www.visit.richmond.com/visitors/listingdetail.aspx?address_id=12069&Guide_ID=42 I highly reccommend Can Can! Next we went to an amazing park. It is part of an estate of some sort that was donated to the city. There is a zoo and waterfalls and all sorts of cool stuf. It's called Maymont and again - its a must do. It was just absolutely beautiful! http://www.maymont.org/ Sunday, we were able to do my favorit summer activity of all - after the beach. We went to Kings Dominion. It was ... read more
