Aloha! To be truthful, I think the travelling is catching up with me a bit - I am so tired! But today was to fabulous not to share. We got up this morning and my Dad fixed a great breakfast of french toast - yummy! It was fun having breakfast with everyone and catching up since I hadn't seen my family since before I left for China. After breakfast, we went to punchbowl cemetary and also Peal Harbor. Punchbowl was so awesome. My Grandpa told us about where he had been in the Pacific during the war, and other people that were there to view the memorial were even listening intently to what he had to say. It seemed to be very emotional for him, but I was amazed at how clear his memory was of ... read more

Well another day is gone. Mark, Barb and Karen just left to go get Karen something to eat as she didnt get food on the plane. We had another great day. Had a nice breakfast here. This afternoon we took the bus and went back downtown to the Ilolani Palace. It was open and worth the extra trip. It was not only beautiful but so interesting too. Tomarrow we will go to Punchbowl and Pearl Harbor. I think it will be something Bob will really enjoy, sharing his experiences of WW2 with Mark and Karen. Of course, Barb and I will enjoy it too. "On the morning of December 7, 1941, aircraft and midget submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy began a surprise attack on the U.S. under the command of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. At 6:09 a.m. on December 7, the six Japanese carriers launched a first wave of 183 planes composed mainly of dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters. The Japanese hit American ships and military installations at 7:55 a.m. The first wave attacked military airfields of Ford Island. At 8:30 a.m. a second wave of 180 Japanese planes, mostly torpedo bombers, attacked the fleet anchored in Pearl Harbor. The battleship USS Arizona was hit with an armor piercing bomb which penetrated the forward ammunition compartment, blowing the ship apart and sinking it within seconds. Overall, nine ships of the U.S. fleet were sunk and twenty-one ships were ... read more

Hi All, Due to us being a bit on the pink side we decided to stay out of the sun yesterday. Our prayers were answered because although it was warm it was overcast and we even had some rain which lasted for a couple of hours or so. As it was a rest day we took it easy and did a little shopping, booked some tours and watched a film. Yay the sun is back!! :O) Today we went to the Kualoa Ranch approx 45 min drive from Waikiki which on the way there took us past quite a few places where parts of movies had been shot, such as Karate Kid 2, Drew Barrymore's home from 50 first dates including the dock and Lost to name but a few. At the ranch we signed up ... read more

VOG what is that? It is volcanic fog. More about that in a bit. What a difference a day makes. I actually feel almost human today. Sleep is a great thing. After breakfast this morning decided to hthe road. I loaded up the Dodge Caliber and headed off to see Volcano National Park. It is only 85-90 miles away but what a drive. Reminds me of some of the highway 194 near Valle Crucis (except up there you can not see the Pacific Ocean). While driving, I saw a sign directing to a black sand beach. That was pretty neat to see. Finally made it to the park and unfortunately due to the recent volcanic activity a good portion of the crater road is closed. I did get to see the craterand the huge flume that ... read more

Aloha everyone! So we left Fiji and headed to another Pacific Island, Oahu. Oahu is an island of Hawaii and is home to Honolulu and the world famous Waikiki Beach. We stayed here for a couple of days before setting off to another of Hawaii's islands; Maui. Whilst here we just took it easy and took full advantage of having sky tv in our rooms! We were also only one block away from Waikiki beach and went down to the beach to practice our body boarding skills. We were going to Maui to meet Kate's mum and dad for 10 nights but to get there we had to overcome the 4 hour boat journey from hell. It must have been the roughest waters we had experienced whilst being away but the good thing was that the ... read more

Here we are starting our second day in beautiful Hawaii. Have been sitting on the patio having coffee. It is so nice. Yesterday we started off driving downtown to the palace. Finally found a place to park, walked a ways only to find the palace was closed on Mondays! We did go into the courthouse and it is very pretty and interesting. Left there and went to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Had lunch and looked around then drove around the North Shore. It is so pretty. Stopped at Waimea beach and took pictures. Stopped at a little roadside stand and got some delicious papaya for Mark and me! Barb fried some great chicken and we had a great dinner looking out on Wikiki! By the way, as we were driving along the North Shore we were ... read more
