I arrived in Hawaii after 30 odd hours since my last sleep thanks to a full day in Sydney that ended in a 7 hour wait at the airport and a 9 hour flight to Hawaii where I was seated beside the screaming baby section. I think it was revenge of the booker because I requested an isle seat after she had already printed my ticket. Note to self. I was too exhausted to be intimidated by US customs but I was rather annoyed that they couldn’t understand why I was travelling to Hawaii on my own with no one to meet me at the other end. I decided this was not the time to start a feminist battle about how young women are actually capable of doing things on their own....pick your battles - I’m ... read more

We arrived at our host’s place in Hilo in the midst of a couchsurfing party where we met a bunch of great local people. On top of our “To Do” list for the Big Island was the Volcanoes National Park. Here we saw the remnants of lava flows that have shaped and continue to shape the landscape of the island. Seeing the toxic plume bellow out of a new hole in the Halema‘uma‘u Crater and lava splash into the air, against the black of the night as it flows into the ocean is quite amazing. And thankfully we didn’t have to contend with too much ‘vog’. After a couple of days we went to stay with another CSing member who resided atop a hill with a magnificent view out over the town and the ocean. Our ... read more

After the briefest of stays in Australia we are back on another night flight to Hawaii, Honolulu to be more precise. Unbelievably we set off at 5.50pm, fly for 9 hours and arrive at 7am on the same day, this has to be our longest day ever. We are only on the Island for 3 days and don’t really want to waste any of our time, plus we are unable to book into our room until 3pm. We rent a jeep at the airport and make our way to Waikiki Beach where we are staying and after a quick stop to check in our bags we head off to the North Shore of the Island to see the huge waves and hopefully watch some serious big wave surfing. The drive up to the North is once ... read more

Yo yo yo! Just an update on how things are going over here unfortunatly no photos to post yet...well there are photos, I went totally camera happy over in Hawaii! near on 200 shots and not just all of me! Hawaii was kick ass, so beautiful we absolutly loved it there def going back at some stage. We stayed in the one spot in Honolulu called Waikiki we were about a 5 min walk from the beach which was handy. Almost puts me in mind of Bali where everything is open late and parties all the time. We hit it hard the first 3 nights as we were still getting used to the time difference which was something like 18 hours behind OZ? So we got 2 Saturdays which was cool! First night we hit a ... read more

Hawaii... synonymous with fresh pineapple, meaty fish, and abundance of sun. Amazingly enough, during my brief, 10-day stay in Oahu and Maui, I did not go in the water. Heck, I spent a total of 40 minutes chilling at the beach, though I was fairly active with walking, jogging, and hiking. At the end of the trip, I was certain of a few things. Loved everything about Hawaii, except Waikiki. I arrived in Oahu on May 22 and rode the Airport Waikiki Shuttle to my hotel. If your hotel is on the east end of Waikiki, figure to be the last one dropped off. You really don't understand why the trip takes so long until the next morning when you realize most of the side streets are one-way and you realize the bus drivers have to ... read more

Aloha! This is a lil blog i am doing as i leave the island of Oahu! I have spent so much time here its going to be shocking to leave. I spent this last day furiously packing the remainder of my stuffs and shoving it into suitcases. After a sad goodbye to Nathaniel this am as he left for work, I continued to pack up the remainder of what was my life here. Took some time and met up with Gayle for one iced mocha to start the day. We got to spend some time chatting over coffee. 1130 I leave my condo for the airport. Of course there is choke traffic in Ewa from all the construction that is going on, on Fort Weaver and on Geiger. I make it to the airport and check ... read more

After a scenic bus ride we took a very quick visit to the famed North Shore. The big waves that the region is known for were not to be seen, as they only roll in during the winter months. The beaches were still as gorgeous as ever and it made us wish that we had allotted more than just the one night to visit. We stayed with a host from Couchsurfing, Sam, who has the pictured view from his back porch .... read more

We flew into spectacular Honalulu and spent 3 fabulous days being hosted by Yoni. His place was in the heart of Waikiki and just minutes walk to all the beaches. The downtown area was beautiful and the beaches were what postcards were made of. After a strenuous hike up through old military tunnels, bunkers and steep staircases we reached the summit of Diamond Head (which is dormant volcano.) The reward was a stunning view of Waikiki, downtown Honalulu and an aerial view of the reef extending into the turquoise coloured ocean. Any trip to Hawaii would not be complete without learning to surf. We did this on Waikiki beach and it was the first time Hayley or I had ever successfully surfed in our lives, albeit ungracefully. We also took the time out to visit the ... read more

Hello Praisers, Prayers, Party Animals and Party Poopers (I am all of these simultaneously-its really complicated, so complicated in fact that i'm probably just talking rubbish). Anyway enough of that, by "that" i mean pointless sentences that just go on and on and on and on with absolutely no meaning, that take up your time and get you closer to the national average of words read in a lifetime, which i hope isn't a measure of your actual lifespan, because that would mean the more you read the closer you would be to death, which would scare the heck out of me because after the last 3 weeks i would practically be knocking at deaths door (ha you thought that was going to be another one of those sentences that had absolutely no meaning, but instead ... read more
