As travelers, we are always walking a fine line between trying to see and do everything and not looking like a kook tourist. But you also dont want to fall into any tourist traps either. So you go look for your own amazing things and leave the crowds behind. But sometimes something is cool enough to warrant a look... If you find yourself on Oahu, The Polynesian Cultural Center on the East side definitely is a must do. Located next to the Brigham Young University Hawaii, it offers youth from all the islands of Polynesia the chance to come to Oahu and get a college education, who work at the PCC and teach people about their culture. While they gloss over some of the human sacrifice and cannibalism, they do a great job of displaying life ... read more

Hey all or more appropriately Aloha :) This is just a quick summary of my 3 day marathon flights to this beautiful island called O'ahu. In total I was in the air for about 22 hours, I probably watched all the movies and mini-series possible. I even finished reading a 400 odd pages long book. You can imagine how hyperactive Ting managed those long hours on the plane. I stayed over in Houston for a night, because the cheapest connection flight was only available the following day. Thinking I can crash inside the George bush international airport, but only to realise that I need to go through custom and cannot go in the airport again till the next day. With a little panic and some great help at their help desk, i found a formula one ... read more

Our flight from Sydney to Honolulu was quite eventful, as flights go. To start with, we had some problems checking in to the flight, because we did not have a booking for a hotel in Hawaii, so telling the lady 'we don´t know... we will find something when we get there...' did not wash! We had to pretend to make a booking on the phone at some place and give her that address. The actual flight was very different to any other, since we were crossing the date line! This meant that we left Sydney on the 4th of July at 7:45pm, and arrived at Honolulu on the same day at 9:30am... travelling back in time! (and this was a 9 hour flight). Honolulu We arrived in Honolulu without any problems, and the views from the ... read more

So, we continued along the eastern coast of Australia back to Sydney - calling in to the Hunter Valley for more wine tasting on the way. We didn’t call back to Fredos Pie Shop for more pies. Blue skies, sunny deserted beaches and chilly at night in the campervan. Its a good job we got the larger van - even so it is still a squeeze - just to give a feel of the size, the living space would fit into our kitchen 6 times!!! Australia continued to serve up a surprise everyday - whether Little Bay which is the perfect beach so far - Newcastle NSW which was so beautiful and clean with road directions to Wickham, Hexham, Lambton and even Wallsend - the day we got lost and ended up with a panoramic ... read more

After a brilliant 6.5 hour flight from Denver to Honolulu (with a unexpected slot in Economy Plus on United, the leg room was bitchin'), we were greeted by Team Cheateaux, Hawaii chapter. Allan's brother Aaron and his wife Tammy Bo-bammy live in Wahiawa, pretty much smack dab in the middle of Oahu, and will be now and forever known as "Team Danger". With some really choice digs off base, we are free to come and go as we please... But first things first.... The beach! We head straight to the north shore for some swimming and body surfing at keikis after we pick Jami up some new swim fins. The Churchhills finally had it and she's been looking for something a bit stiffer. It felt amazing to slide into 80 degree perfection. Air? 80 degrees. Water? ... read more

Wow, what a brilliant start to our trip. If you're ever doing the trek over to Aus, NZ or Polynesia, stopping for a small hiatus in Hawaii is the way to do it! Our hotel was right across the street from Wakiki, but we decided to rent a car to maximize our time. We had stunning weather the whole time, then it rained so we hit the road to Sydney. Now I know that a lot of you have been to Hawaii, but all that I can say is that everywhere (except the crowded freeways) are breathtaking. Day 1: Coconut syrop, fresh pineapple, Pearl Harbour (blah... probably would have been a stunning spot, had the Yanks not parked there), surfer's beach, Diamond head, nap, sushi and a 6 pack of Moosehead for 5 bucks! Day 2: ... read more

North Shore - we decided to do a guided tour of the north shore as we did not know the best beaches etc, so booked a japanese guy doing tours of around 8 people. We went from Waikiki through Honolulu and past Pearl Harbour (where all the americans were headed for), and up through the middle of the island to our first stop - the Dole plantation Pineapple farm, lots of pineapples of all shapes and sizes, and a shop to cater for all manner of pineapple paraphernalia, a quick stop is enough unless you go into the huge maze and get lost ! Onto the beaches, via Haleiwa (back to there later) so we had a choice of the main beaches - Sunset beach,Rocky PT,Banzai pipeline,Shark's cove,Pupukea beach,Three table,Waimea Bay,Chun's reef,Laniakea. - All of ... read more
