Hi all and welcome along to out travel blog. Hopefully you'll find our travel stories and photos interesting as we make our way along our three month world tour. We're Checking In So our trip got off to a good start, apart from a slight malfunction of Hayley's suitcase and a pair of forgotten shoes. We left Perth around 7:30pm on a Friday night and had a pretty good flight to Auckland, apart from them mocking us with stickers on the back of the chairs that looked like TV's, which were there to tell us personal TV's were being installed on these plans over the next few months. After about five and a half hour we touched down in Auckland airport which seemed nice, and managed to find a nice couch for a bit of a ... read more

Before I start today’s journal, let me set the scene for you as to where we are right now. We’re sitting at Starbucks, sitting yummy café latte and enjoying the luxury of the rare air con (or at least we were when we started this entry). Life here is finally a little more chilled and the pace of life finally is matching up to the Hawaiian style!! Today’s blog details our little adventure to Maui, the original capital of Hawaii. Our trip started by waking up at 4:30 am (with Tim working till midnight) to catch our ferry ride in the town harbour! Everything was well organized by the Hawaiians and very efficient. I was simply ecstatic with the ferry ride and I couldn’t wait to board. The ferry was much bigger than we expected to ... read more

San Francisco is a very nice town, similar, in a lot of ways, to Perth. Our hotel was just by the gate entrance to Chinatown. The weather was cool and the wind cutting to the extreme. Fran had kicked her toes on the foot that she’d had a broken toe on and she was hobbling somewhat, but soldiering on bravely. In addition to this handicap, she felt like she was coming down with the flu. The inevitable red bus tour took us around the sights of San Francisco, down by the Fisherman’s Wharf, past Alcatraz and then towards “THE BRIDGE”. The Golden Gate Bridge is massive and high. The tour guide said that conditions were fairly good on the bridge that day. Hmmm, we thought, with that cold wind. Well the wind started to strengthen as ... read more

=) ===================================================================================================================== On the third and unfortunately last day on Kauai we did a "Zipline" Adventure! For everyone who's wondering what that is: Just check out... read more

After the chaos of planning a wedding on the other side of the globe and our amazing wedding week in Scotland, we were pretty much KNACKERED!!! After the long journey from Glasgow to Toronto and then Calgary before finally reaching Vancouver, we were ready for a break. After unpacking and repacking we were soon on a plane bound for Honolulu and some piece and quiet. We knew we would be exhausted by the time the wedding was over and that relaxing was all we would want to do. That pretty much sums up our time in Honolulu. We stayed in the Queen Kapiolani Hotel which sits at the very end of Waikiki, so a little quieter than being right in the middle of the action. We had a great view from our room, straight out to ... read more

As the official tester for the devices that Tim is working on, I must've heard "welcome to kailua" over hundred of times. It's the most haunting voice after hearing it for so many times, esp at 2am in the morning :) Good news is that we are now writing to you all on a happier, much more relaxed note! For a solid week Tim's day was filled with work, eat, sleep (if he's lucky, he gets abt 5 hours of beauty nap), maybe on an odd occasion he was allowed a little dip in the crystal blue ocean that we've missed so much. But I am proud to announce that they've met the launch date successfully and now crazy enough to launch Maui too. (another island that's 3 hours ferry ride from Honolulu) Nevertheless we spent ... read more

sunburn has healed and the boat has arrived! flipping fantastic!!! i got the call three days ago that the ship was passing diamond head crater... just southeast from waikiki... i looked out my window of the hotel room and there it was... my home to be... running parallel with the shore. i greeted my boat-mates proper... fresh leihs and bottles of wine in tow. surprisingly, they seemed rather refreshed and relaxed for spending the last 17 days at sea. after the initial greeting, rounds of beer were bought, and a seafood dinner served. i will be traveling with ian the skipper and his daughter, krysia. a delighful pair who have graciously taken me in. i moved on board two days ago and have greatly enjoyed their company. life on board will be easier than a originally ... read more

Here's the latest of our travels.... Nothing really new to report. Work is going good for the both of us. We are done "training" and get to be real employees next week. Weather is still beautiful, but it has been a little cloudy the last few days. Dad and the family are on their way here right now, so I'm excited to see them. They will be here for a few days, and then its off to Samoa! Hope you enjoy. Miss you all, Allison and Ashley... read more

It was a short 25 minutes flight from Kona to Maui on Island Air. I noticed that the flight was half full of Europeans - US must be a cheap destination with the weak US$. We flew over the eastern corner of Kaho'olawe and the top of Molokini on our way to Kahului, Maui. We picked up our rental car and headed straight south to Wailea ... with Lauren being my navigator. As we pulled into our hotel driveway half hour later, I was immediately taken back. I told my sister before we left for Hawaii that we would be staying at Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui and my sister reminded me that this was the beautiful hotel that we visited in 2001 for our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. My niece, Shannan, had such fond memories ... read more
